I just unpacked and tuned our new EL-00. Excellent! Especially for the bux! I've been a Gibson man for five decades and this Epi continues the world class tradition. A little break-in time and some lighter strings and we will be in guitar heaven. Why,the finish alone is worth the money! (Have you priced a refinish job lately?) Get it now while there's any left!
This has astonishing finish, small but effective dimentions. It has amazing quality materials. It has way, way, way good tone. The mids are above the good level. The lows and highs are not as full as I would wish them to be (but to accomplish that step up I would need to be able to get a very expensive alternative). I have not yet replaced the strings, replaced the plastic saddle, and replaced the plastic nut. That will surely help things immediately for sound production.
This guitar does exactly what you would expect. It sounds great for a guitar in this price range, and plays quite well. I am very happy with the instrument - once I changed the strings, the sound and playability improved dramatically. Worth every penny...
I've tried a few Epiphones over the year, and I've noticed that a lot of them have this sort of... soft, dense, almost plasticy wood. This guitar sounds empty and nasally. I've played single cone resonators that are meant to sound nasally, but they sounded nasally in a GOOD way. This just sounds cheap. I feel like this guitar should cost $180-$200. For only $30, you could get an amazing sounding, Canadian made Seagull. Unless Epiphone lowers the price on the EL-00, I won't consider it a logical purchase.
After never having music lessons or playing a musical instrument, I decided nine months ago to buy one of the cheaper acoustic guitar beginner kits. I have practiced forty minutes to an hour five days each week since then and I had reached the point where I wanted a better instrument. My wife bought me this guitar for my birthday and I have fallen in love with it. The finish is beautiful and sound quality just blew me away and it is so much easier to play than the beginner guitar I had been using. This instrument is going to make me want to work harder in order to improve my ability.
I am completely satisfied with my purchase of this guitar. I bought it after reading the reviews and it didn't disappoint. It is larger than your typical parlor but smaller than a full size guitar but with a sound that is pleasing and full. I have to also mention that it is a very beautiful guitar. I highly recommend this guitar.
I rate this guitar 5 stars, given the incredible value for the money and the exceptional overall quality. With mine, I adjusted the truss rod to bring the high action down to a nice low and easy to play level (something ALL owners should do with their new guitars!), changed the high tension stock strings to lower tension strings, and now the guitar has great playability. This is an excellent value in a parlor-sized acoustic with a solid spruce top that plays well and sounds superb. The string spacing of the 1 11/16 inch nut seems tight if you've become used to finger picking on 1 3/4 inch nut guitars, but you get used to it. The EL-00 is beautifully finished, and it's a great buy. Remember folks, it's not WHERE the guitar is made, it's the design, the quality of materials, and the execution of assembly that makes for a quality guitar. The EL-00 is so nice, and so inexpensive, that it would make a wonderful gift for any guitarist of any level, and it's especially nice when you need a smaller bodied guitar with a slimmer neck. I commend Epiphone/Gibson for continuing to produce this great little guitar!
i got this guitar a couple weeks ago on ebay and it is a great guitar.it holds the tune very well and has a great tone and you can really control the volume.i also love the sunburst finish.
this is a great guitar and does what its intended to do - small room type audiences. the best thing is it's not overpowering in its sound and really responds to the amount of input you put into it. if you want it loud you play it loud and if you want it quiet it does that too. personally i like this more than my dreadnought because i don't have to fight with the volume. in short - great guitar, mellow sound, perfect size. go buy one!
