Overview

Epiphone's version of the Gibson classic J-200, known as the "King of the Flat Tops", a guitar that has graced stages across the world in the hands of musical legends from Elvis to Emmylou. This modernized EJ-200SCE, features a jumbo maple body with a select spruce top, a stylish mustache bridge, gold hardware, crown inlays on the fingerboard, and a huge sound easily amplified by the an eSonic2 preamp with built-in tuner and NanoFlex/NanoMag pickups. Case sold separately.

A body full of grace
The EJ-200SCE's construction features a solid spruce top with select maple, back and sides and a striking cutaway that provides you better fret access than its predecessor. This 25.5" scale beauty also comes with Epiphone's SlimTaper select maple neck which helps give you a smoother ride up and down the rosewood fingerboard. The rosewood fingerboard has vintage style pearloid crown inlays and a 1.68" nut along with our iconic Sloped Dovewing Epiphone headstock with premium die-cast gold 14:1 tuners.

A fresh spin on classic tone
The tone from the EJ-200SCE's select maple top is enhanced by the classic rosewood "mustache" bridge and synthetic bone saddle. A tortoise-style pickguard with a unique dandelion art pattern helps round-out the EJ-200SCE's iconic look. Thanks to it's combination of tonewoods and construction, the EJ-200SCE provides you with a solid, yet balanced tone which lets rhythm guitarists and singer-songwriters feel like they're being backed up by a band even when they're playing a set pared down. The rich and complex tones the EJ-200SCE will truly inspire musicians everywhere over and over again.

Plug it in, plug it in
Taking the J-200 to whole new levels sonically, the EJ200CE features the Epiphone eSonic2 preamp system which features a built-in, easy-to-use tuner. And when you're playing, you don't have to worry about any accidental popping as the eSonic2 automatically mutes your output. When you push in the tuner button and unplug your guitar, it also keeps it "pop" free. The EJ-200SCE also provides you with tone-shaping options - NanoFlex Tone, NanoMag Tone, Stereo Blend - as well as Master Volume, and a Low Battery indicator and a Phase switch to help eliminate unwanted feedback. The eSonic2 is powered by two 2032 lithium watch batteries which are not only lightweight, but also last significantly longer life than more traditional, heavier 9V batteries.

Revolutionary stereo pickups
The EJ-200SCE features a compensated saddle with Shadow Germany's proprietary NanoFlex, low-impedance pickup. The NanoFlex's unique flexible sensing material has integrated active electronics that picks up string vibration as well as top and body vibrations for a truly acoustic tone without the harshness usually associated with piezos. As a compliment, there is a NanoMag pickup mounted at the harmonic-rich end of the fingerboard. It features three Samarian-Cobalt magnets and an integrated active circuit to capture all the highs and lows, including a wide range of harmonics. The preamp allows you to chose 1/4" mono output blending both pickups or 1/4" stereo output splitting the two pickups, giving you incredible flexibility and opportunities to create the perfect acoustic tone live.

I was so surprised and delighted when I first picked up my Epiphone EJ200CE. It has a great warm sound with clean hi's after I re-strung it with Elixir polyweb electric strings. (it is Acoustic/Electric)The tone controls came in to the rescue with my Marshal Amp. Anyone from beginers to seasoned advanced players will be quite amazed with the sound, price and quality of this guitar. Oh by the way, I never write reviews. This guitar made me do it!

epiphone ej-200ce

By daniel

from SAINT CHARLES MO63304

I have been playing guitar off and on for about 40 years.I have had several name brand guitars over the years.I recently purchase a 416 Taylor from the guitar center and do like this instrument a lot.I did read most of the reviews on the ej-200 and most all are very positive. Now having played the ej-200 for 3 weeks I have to say it is uch more guitar than I expected.I use medium stings and this thing sounds great. For under the 500 dollar range you can't match it's quality and appearance.Would highly recommend

Excellent Guitar - Great Sound

By Oscar Vela

from Houston, TX

I got this guitar as a gift and whoa what a surprise. This guitar is gifted - great sound, pickups and features. It's got a fantastic look and is easy to play. The action is just low enough to where I don't destroy my fingers playing Elixir 11's. Oh and did I mention the dual outputs?? Reminds me of an old Rickenbacker bass ... Anyway - I've been away from the guitar for several years but I'm definitely going to play a lot more now. Thanks Frank!

Happy Customer

By Jack Sehestedt

from Carthage, North Carolina

Purchased an EJ-200CE I have played many different acoustic guitars and own several. The EJ-200CE plays and sounds like a high dollar Gibson. The electronics are totally amazing working without flaw static or any issues what so ever! The only regret I have is not purchasing this musical wonder sooner. I feel sorry for my other guitars shut up in there cases. One more important message, purchase your next guitar or whatever from the GUITAR CENTER the service and the attention You need will be there for you. I am a return customer for years to come.

Awesome guitar and incredible service.

By KEITH HILGENEFELDT

from Orlando, Florida

I just picked up the EJ 200 CE and I am so totally impressed I don't know where to begin. I have a Martin acoustic-electric, and have had Fenders, Gibsons, and Echo, and this guitar tops them all so far in appearance, sound quality and playability. Right out of the box it is an almost perfect set up. Guitar Center did a slight adjustment and put on some d'addario strings for me and it feels and plays great. The action is better out of the box than Martin or Fender. I am in no way a professional musician, but was when I was younger, and I can tell this guitar would rock with the best of them, as well as provide a sweet, soulfull sound. I have only had it a day but I love it. There is much talk about whether this guitar has a solid top or laminate and upon close inspection it looks and sound solid. The appearance is just beautiful - I opted for the Natural, only because I didn't want to deal with the fingerprints on the black, although the black is equally nice to look at. The trim, the gold Grover machine heads, the tortoise shell pick-guard, the rosewood neck with crown inlays all add to the appearance, and are usually only found on much more expensive guitars. The finish is flawless and reflective and looks far more expensive than it is. it is a larger body guitar, much larger than my Martin, but I love the feel to it. Many people have written that unplugged this guitar does not project as well as they would like. I found this one to do very well in that regard, loud enough with a pick and great sustain. Fingerpicking, which this guitar just loves, was not as loud, but neither were my other guitars. What I really love already is the Esonic2 system. I plugged into a Fender 212R amp and a small PA amp and started playing around with it. Incredible and interesting sounds and range between the NanoFlex and NanoMag pick up's. I couldn't quite get it blended together just in the Fender amp, but I may be doing something wrong, but regardless this guitar has an amplified sound exceeding my Martin acoustic-electric and even the Fender I traded. By adjusting easily I could create a vintage sound and then a smooth, mellow sound. By holding the "tune" button down you can easily unplug with no "pop" or hiss at all. The tuner seems very accurate and easy to use. It is loud even at the low volume setting. The neck is thin and fast exactly as advertised. I don't have small hands with long, thin fingers, so this is an absolute joy to play. At under $400 anyone would not go wrong in purchasing this guitar. Appearance, sound, electronics, overall workmanship and playability are unmatched at this price point. I played over 30 guitars and not one played or sounded this nice. Granted I have not had months to evaluate how this will all hold up, but my initial feeling is that this guitar will age and season just fine. Beginner or pro this guitar would be a great choice for stage, studio or back room. In addition to a great guitar at an awesome price, the staff at Guitar Center in Winter Park, Florida were, as always, incredible. Steve, Micheal, Matt and everyone there were knowledgeable, helpful and concerned about my satisfaction. Not just professional, but friendly and sincere. I would not even consider purchasing equipment anywhere else, not just because of the store, but more because of them. The service is always top notch. They treated this sale the same as they do for a sale thousands more. I appreciated their efforts and the price and selection at Guitar Center. The Epiphone EJ200 CE is a "10" out of "10".

Sensitive

By sam Hagerman

from Kingston Ontario

I bought this guitar and fell in love with it, i didnt like the strings very much so i swapped the out for martin sp light (i use these on all my acoustics) and there was buzzing and the open D string, on the 7th fret A, and 13th fret of the D and G strings, the guitar needed a fret level and truss rod adjustment but once i has it set up to my liking this guitar is absolutely excellent, the tone is great, the body size makes it easy to palm mute, plugged in it is absolutely great, the neck feels super solid and is quick to move around and when strummed it has an irresistible bassy chime. It was a bit of trouble getting it set up, but for the price this guitar is excellent.

Amazing!

By STEPHEN LISKOW

from Newington, CT

I've loved my J-45 for years, but it's hard to mike so I've been looking for a good acoustic electric. The J-200 is everything I've wanted and more. It looks great and the big dreadnought body fits into my ribs like an old girlfriend. The fingerboard is fast and smooth, and the cutaway lets me get clear up to the twentieth fret if necessary. That was a major plus because sometimes I do get pretty far up the neck. The action is high enough so I can play slide, and the guitar stays in tune even in alternate tunings (my Gibson tends to go out of tune except in standard, but maybe because it's 40 years old), which give me the freedom to experiment more. Even though the action is high enough for slide, the guitar plays very easily, much more lightly than you'd expect. That big body gives a resonant tone even when it's not plugged in. Plugged in, it's incredible. The bass is rich and full without being overpowering, and the electronics make it easy to adjust the balance across the whole range from bass to a clean treble without getting too jangly. The tuner is both easy to read and accurate. I've had my other guitars for fifteen years or more, clear up to forty, but this one is rapidly becoming my go-to instrument. One of the best bargains I've ever encountered.

Iconic looks, state of the art electronics!

By JAMES JONES

from Miami Fl

I bought this used from Guitar Center, to replace the EJ-200 I had for years, that wasn't acoustic-electric and had a laminated top rather than a sold spruce top, as these new ones do. The looks, of course, are iconic and the tone is beautiful, as we would expect from a guitar with a solid spruce top. The sides and back are flame maple, which is laminate, however, this are not critical to the tone, as the top is. The headstock is a bit longer than the original EJ-200s made in Koreas, and the "Gibson" name on the truss rod cover is gone. These guitars are made in Indonesia. This guitar also has a the mustache bridge, large, floral, pickguard, gold tuners, a cutaway, an onboard tuner and shadow electronics that activate not one but two pickups; the nanomag and nanoflex. This is what makes this acoustic-electric unique. The nanomag is at the end of the fingerboard and the nanoflex is underneath the saddle. Each has state of the art electronics, characteristic of Shadow electronics. The nanomag seems to give a more mellow tone, as we would expect, than the nanoflex which is further back, underneath the bridge. By choosing one or the other and adjusting the EQ, you can make the guitar very mellow or very bright. What is truly unique is that this guitar can plugged into two amps, with different settings, giving it a stereo effect. You can switch between them to have a clean sound, for instance, and then switch to the other, with reverb, compression or whatever you like, without having to adjust a single amp. If you choose, and most will, you can have both pickups blended and use the EQ for each to adjust the tone. Most Epiphone acoustics have the Shadow pickups as do many, if not most of the electrics, which allow a greater range of tonal possibilities. This guitar is solidly constructed, beautiful ("iconic") and has state of the art electronics. Highly recommended.

King of the Flat tops!

By JAMES JONES

from Miami, FL

I bought this to replace my Epiphone EJ-200 which I have owned for years, which did not have the cutaway, electronics or solid spruce top. In the years since, those have become mandatory features in an acoustic guitar. This is my fourth Epiphone purchase. This edition of the EJ-200 by Epiphone has all these features, and is a great guitar, at a mid range price. The solid spruce top is the critical factor in the tone of an acoustic guitar and this guitar delivers great tone. Changing the strings is recommended, and I put on Martin coated strings and adjusted the neck to maximize the action. Unlike other acoustic-electric guitars, the EJ-200CE has two pickups, which, when activated, make the guitar sound GREAT. Each pickup has its own characteristics and having two, with two outputs allows for a variety of tonal configuration that other acoustic guitars can't match. Along with that, it has an onboard tuner, which is very handy! The looks are iconic and remind me of the pix of Elvis on the back of the album, "Loving You", although the headstock has been changed to be more similar to other Epiphones and there is no "Gibson" label on the trus rod cover as there was in the earlier model I owned, that was made in Korea. It is slightly longer than the original EJ-200s which makes finding a case that fits, a challenge. This guitar is made in Indonesia, which explains its low price.

The Best Acoustic

By Jason Cummons

from Katy TX

I've had this guitar for about a year and a half now and it is, hands down, the best guitar I have. Have never had a problem with it other than finding a case, which isn't a big deal. The action and sound quality are top notch. Greatest song writing/ live/ recording/ everything guitar I have. Do not hesitate to buy this guitar. I even had friends who have their own guitars, prefer the sound of this. So buy it.
