I bought one and after a few days the neck was buzzing and had dead spots between the 8th and 14th frets. Took it back to the store and the other one they had was afflicted with the same problem. The sound and the look were ok but they were unplayable, both of them. Too bad Yoko.

I Love This Guitar

By DAVID BRANIGAN

from Palos Park, Illinois

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

I do some Everly Brothers songs in my act. This guitar is perfect. There were a few problems out of the box. The first one I ordered from GC did not work. No sound came out after trying several cable and amp combinations. They ordered a replacement. That one had a problem with the action. Any string played at the first fret buzzed. A quick truss rod adjustment by the tech at GC fixed that. The action is great. The subtle tone of this guitar is just what I was looking for. Not tinny at all even with the tone control on full. It requires a bit more volume from the amp then my non-acoustic electric guitars but that has not been a problem. I like the fact that the pickup is passive. It does not require a battery like the other Fender acoustic electric I had before this. Although it does not have the full range of controls the active pickup acoustic electric guitars normally have (high, midrange, low and brightness), the simplicity of a singe tone control has not been a factor since the mellow tone is just what I was looking for. It sounds the same when played without amplification as it does with. This has been a great addition to the other guitars I play.

Help!

By Aaron Hayes

from Cleveland, Tennessee

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

This thing is awesome! I haven't bought one yet, but I plan to soon. I've played one at two different Guitar Centers. One in Maryland and one at the Gibson Retail Shop in Memphis, Tennessee. When I started to play Help! it was like all my dreams had come true. It sounds exactly like it does in Abbey Road in the 60's. If you're a Beatles fan like me, you need this guitar. There are so many countless Beatle's songs that I would record with getting this guitar. Not only does it have historical value, but the action feels great, it has awesome treble, and the finish is one of the greatest ones I've ever seen (the picture above doesn't do it justice). You need this guitar!

John Lennon Epiphone

By Tony Duarte

from Alto, New Mexico

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

Received my EJ16E and it is a beautiful and quality built guitar. The check-list that came with the guitar indicated that the strings had been replaced but I don't believe it. I changed the strings immediately to Martins. The guitar sounds great and has plenty of volume for my old ears. My guitar was built in Indonesia according to the sticker. I have not tried the electronics in it as I purchased the guitar because it looks like the J-45 and can't afford $3000.00. I saw a J-45 at a music store and I believe the Lennon guitar looks better and sounds about the same.

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

I purchased this guitar online site unseen, and it arived in perfect condition. It has such a beautiful finish, vintage vib and tone.Comes set up with Gibson L-5 medium-light strings, and to keep that vintage tone this guitar is ment for you need to keep pure nickel strings on it,especialy for the magnetic pickup to work at its full potential. Thanks Epiphone for such a wonderful and affordable guitar.

A wait of 45 years

By Bill Reynolds

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

I fell in love with this guitar when I and our garage band saw Lennon strumming on it in, 'A Hard Days Night' playing out of a drive-in when the film first came out in 1964. Years and years later, I'd just about forgotten about that guitar when I saw an EJ-160e hanging on the wall of my local Guitar Center, just about a year ago, now. I pulled it down, strummed it, liked what I heard but hung it back up. After two more trips to GC and more fiddlling with it, I thought I'd better purchase it before someone else did. In the end and after some alteration, it is the last acoustic, with or without electronics, that I'll ever need to own. I play the thing all the time. Love the tone. I had a GC tech do a setup for me. There wasn't much required. One change had to immediately be made. Two of the original tuners were bad. One of them was bent. GC didn't have another set nor were they sure how soon they could get one in. I switched the originals out for Grover nickel plated. That did the trick. Also changed out the original bridge pins for black; just a personal preference. I also had to try several types of strings and with the help of another GC employee from Britain who mentioned that, "They were good enough for Lennon, " I've fitted it with DR 9-42 pure nickel, which is called out for electric guitar but creates that terrific jangly Beatles sound. I now have, as I've said, the last acoustic that I'll ever need to own. Put a Gibson headstock on this thing and it'll cost you another couple grand. Epiphone did it right. For the money, for the nostalgia... the EJ-160e is the one.

Great guitar great price

By Christian

from Tonawanda NY

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

I was going to pick this guitar up at a store , they shipped it to my house for no extra. I received the guitar and it sounded above average right out of the box. Slight buzzing if you played loudly. I read other reviews about how the strings that came with it are horrible so I grabbed a set of medium gauge Elixer strings This guitar sounds superb, it can compete with some higher end Gibson guitars, in my opinion. For the price this guitar is a must have, couldn't be happier with it. If you have money and are looking for an acoustic guitar or an acoustic electric this is it! (Especially if your a fan of Beatles music like myself)

Amazing!

By Matthew

from Landisville, Pennsylvania

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

I love this guitar! I researched it saw it listed and being a Beatle fan and even larger John Lennon fan. Called Sam Ash didn't have it so I went to one of the guitar centers relitively close. I drove for an hour and 30 minutes just to get it. I tried it to see if I would like it, before I picked it up I knew I would love it. Tried it was just amazing, so since it was electric also I plugged it in. It may have been an acoustic amp, I don't know amps well, and it sounded really acoustic. So I knew that was it, it was mine. I came home and went to show my guitar teacher. She loved the look, the sound, and the action. She plays high end Martins, Taylor, and other high end guitars and she loved it. It still surprises me! I'm only a person trying to start a band and start performing, so I can't tell you how it plays live. I can tell you it might buzz(it is a noise, I call it a buzz) in the amp,it buzzes in my new Vox Pathfinder 15r, that is only because it is a single coil pickup and all single coil pickups unless they are the the noise cancelling ones. I love the finish, the bridge pickup, and the machine heads. Hope this helped!
