I bought one and after a few days the neck was buzzing and had dead spots between the 8th and 14th frets. Took it back to the store and the other one they had was afflicted with the same problem. The sound and the look were ok but they were unplayable, both of them. Too bad Yoko.

The ultimate Beatles sounding guitar

By NiceguyD81

from La habra, CA

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

This is by far the best guitar I have ever come across, and belive me I've come across many. Modled after the gibson j160e, this guitar is very similar, the only difference is the name, at the top of the head stock. As far as everything else it sounds exactley the same, and is the guitar for you, if your a fan of The Beatles music. I highly recommened this guitar to anyone who is not looking to spend an arm and a leg, and get that great sound that john lennon & George Harrison got from them.

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

I grabbed this guitar because it was slightly dinged during shipment and was deeply discounted. I was surprised by the rich tone and overall finish. sounds great amped up and plays great soft or banged pretty hard. I would recommend it to anyone who wants great sound, good looks, and is a little nostalgic.

Great Guitar

By BW

from West Linn, OR

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

This guitar sounds great plugged in and without the amp. It is a great guitar for those of you who want the Gibson version, but don't have the money. It looks the same for the most part. The only difference is the Cherry Sunburst finish and the John Lennon signature by the neck. This is a great guitar overall, I cannot think of anything wrong with it, so I gave it all five stars. I have never had a problem with it. If you want the sound that John and George got on those early Beatles records, than this is the guitar for you.

Awesome!!!!

By am

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

I found this guitar very versatile, and its able to achieve a fantastic tone both unplugged and plugged. As it came from the factory, some things needed adjusting like the action and after a month or two my volume and tone knobs slid loose, but after a quick set up, my guitar plays just as good as guitar high above its price range, and thats even without its Beatle connection, which was obviously my main reason for the purchase. It definitely delivers a rich Beatle tone that I feel the guitar is known for, and it delivers. A great buy for guitar players of all kind who want a legendary acoustic at a great price.

Love that epip Lennon guitar

By Frank G. Wetteroth

from Ste. Genevieve , Mo.

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

I fianlly made the move! I fianlly bought the epiphone Lennnon acoustic/ electric guitar. I love it but you got to remember at 57 I'm a Beatle and Lennon freak. The sound when one streaks a chord is incredible. So light weight and easy to move up and down the neck. The only thing ( and it's probably me) I had a difficult time tuneing it. However I love this guitar.

Try BEFORE You Buy!

By BluesRenegade

from Houston, TX

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

I played a brand new EJ-160E and my first reaction was disappointment at the very high action. The strings are way too high off of the fingerboard! Whether you're chording or playing lead, this guitar fights you. For comparison, I played an EJ-200CE and found it had much lower (and better) action. As for the electronics, the pots were smooth and worked well. This guitar uses a magnetic pickup, therefore, when plugged in it sounds more like an electric guitar than a modern acoustic-electric. As for the sound, the sound of this guitar is as good as everyone says! I really wanted to buy one of these guitars but I know I would not be happy with the very high action. I like to play up and down the neck and this is not the guitar for that, I'm sorry to say. :(

My Fav!

By Bobby

from NY, NY

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

I'm not at all surprised that this was the Beatles "go-to" guitar throughout much of their recording career. It has a beautiful sound, is extremely durable, and best of all plays like a dream. Highly Recommended.

great looks great sound

By joe sarn

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

A friend of mine ordered one of these. I played it and had to have it. Sounded great out of the box, looks beautiful. I was afraid it was just a cheap knock off or collectible, but it's a fine instrument. When I play out, people ask me about it. The sound speaks for itself. I'm still looking for just the right strings for it. Almost there. Medium gauge sounds best to me so far.

John LEMMON!

By scottlennon

from Cincinnati, OH

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

I bought this guitar as a second acoustic (I own a Gibson J-30 Nashville). I am a Beatle/JL freak, and the idea of having a "collectible" guitar that I could also play live intrigued me. The neck was bad, the tuning keys buzzed, and it would not stay in tune. Even after having my luthier set it up, it was still a nightmare. So, I returned it and tried another one. After two days, the G tuning key started to buzz on this one too. I finally returned it and bouth a Epiphone AJ-200, which is a great guitar for $200 less! My advice on this guitar--just "Let it Be"!!!!

Not Just For Beatles Fans

By Rik Nelson

from Washington

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

This is a great quality guitar, nice inlays, a single coil pickup, and a thin, fast neck. Mine is an older Korean model and has prompted me to learn several Beatles tunes, even though I bought it solely for its features. It plays really easily, with low action similar to an electric. It is quite loud and bright with standard strings, so I now use Martin Silk and Steel with it, toning down the brightness and volume so I can actually sing with it - but the new sound is quite different. My only gripe would be the tuners, one old fashioned touch that I may change as they can be stiff and/or loose and imprecise at times. Great guitar - not just for Beatles fans!

My review of 160E JL Guitar (bought 1998)

By p nowak jr

from NY, then AZ, then MI

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

I bought this 10 yrs ago for the sound quality, though not for the JLennon signature ... the sound quality is great except for an occasional buzz I get on either the 4rth or 5th string that comes and goes. I tried using it as an electric but my amp (25w) was not strong enough. I have had to do relative tuning several times but once done it is great to play afterwards. The condition of the guitar is super, nothing is amiss so far.

I LOVE THIS GUITAR!!!

By Travis Cramer

from Bay Area, California

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

This is an awsesome guitar by far. I own this model and I have had it for about a month now and I rarely have to tune it. It has a great deep tone, and it stays like that until you hook it up to an amp. It doesn't sound like every other acoustic electric, it has a little bit of acoustic and some twang to it to. It stays in good shape as long as you take care of it and is is a really pretty guitar. I just love how it looks and sounds. I play at least five hours a day and still nothing is broken not one scratch. Even if you aren't a fan of John Lennon or the Beatles This is a must have for any collector!!!

Amazing!

By Matthew

from Landisville, Pennsylvania

Comments about Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon Acoustic-Electric:

I love this guitar! I researched it saw it listed and being a Beatle fan and even larger John Lennon fan. Called Sam Ash didn't have it so I went to one of the guitar centers relitively close. I drove for an hour and 30 minutes just to get it. I tried it to see if I would like it, before I picked it up I knew I would love it. Tried it was just amazing, so since it was electric also I plugged it in. It may have been an acoustic amp, I don't know amps well, and it sounded really acoustic. So I knew that was it, it was mine. I came home and went to show my guitar teacher. She loved the look, the sound, and the action. She plays high end Martins, Taylor, and other high end guitars and she loved it. It still surprises me! I'm only a person trying to start a band and start performing, so I can't tell you how it plays live. I can tell you it might buzz(it is a noise, I call it a buzz) in the amp,it buzzes in my new Vox Pathfinder 15r, that is only because it is a single coil pickup and all single coil pickups unless they are the the noise cancelling ones. I love the finish, the bridge pickup, and the machine heads. Hope this helped!
