this is the second bass i have owned. i got it about 2 years ago when i was really into the "sg" look. it is a great looking bass over-all and will get a lot of looks. the seem-less neck to body construction give it a ridiculous amount of sustain. bridge design is great other then the saddle adjustments are hard to get to. the one thing that continues to impress me is its ability to stay in tune. the pickup selector is an amazing feature that i wish was on more basses, and the double humbuckers sound great. having said this, the neck width is too thin for my liking. often times when im playing my fingers will jam up because the action is a little awkward during faster fills. another major flaw is the weight distribution. this bass is VERY TOP HEAVY, meaning you will be supporting the neck as you play which slows playing down. also in a minor note, pinch-harmonics and chords are harder to do on this bass. all in all, a pretty good blues or starter bass, but if your going for more advanced playing then i would save your money and find a better bass like a higher end ibenez or a spector.

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

I went up to the store in serch of a new bass to replace my old beaten up one. i was looking around when i came across the EB-3 SG. from fist glance it looked like a nice bass. a nice replica of the origional Gibson. i picked it up to play it and found that it was not as great as i though..the action wasnt to good and the neck seemed very thin twards the top, pushing the strings together and making it had to hit one string at a time. the sound to it is very rich but alittle tinny. i think this bass would be ideal for someone who has short fingers or trouble reaching the E string. the price is great for what you are getting, but i honestly would not buy this for myself.

After some time with the EB-3...

By Jose Vega

from Murrieta, California

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

I bought this bass about a year ago. After spending time with it over the last year, I have to say that this has to be the most amazing bass for the money I've ever seen! Sure, it looks so amazing that people always compliment it's appearance after shows, but it sounds just as amazing. You get a great range of tones, and you can feel the power of this bass in a way that feels incredible. It's reliable, durable (Mine looks absolutely new still), and delivers beyond expectations. I can't describe all the aspects that make me love it, so you'll have to try it out for yourself. That being said, to make this a good review, I have to point out two relatively minor details that may annoy some potential buyers. First, it's heavier than it looks, and the way the strap holds on to the body along with the weight of the neck means you have to be holding on to the neck at all times, or the entire thing rotates towards the floor. Though, this is true of a lot of basses. Just keep it in mind if you're used to a lighter bass like I was before transitioning to the SG. Second, those beautiful open gear tuner knobs are great, but because they're so large, they can move around more easily than most, so this tends to mean you'll have to re-tune your bass every other time you put it down. This is avoidable with a good case, or just being careful with them. The best advice I can give would be to visit a guitar center, and see if they have it in stock so you can test it out and make sure you like the feel of it. If you're comfortable with it, I have to recommend you buy it.

best ever

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

This is one of the best sounding basses out there for your money. The sound and tone alone blew me away. The action and all the different sounds you can get out of it make the best bass for your money. Now onto the looks, it is completely beautiful from the trapezoid inlays to the chrome pickup covers. This is a perfect replica of the original SG.

Good deal for a great bass

By Clint Dodge

from baton rouge, LA

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

I went to the music store with a $400 budget (which is relatively low in the bass world). And I found this. This is the smoothest bass ive ever played-and ive played alot of basses. If you dont like how it sounds, there are thousands of pedals and effects you can use to make it better. In other words, dont pass it up just because It might not sound good. Its a good deal. Not only does it have a classic look to it, but it also has 5 volume/ tone knobs. And for the price you cant beat that. I would reccomend this to begginers/ novice bassers who need a step up from their old bass.

Epiphone still making them the right way!

By Mark Irwin

from Syracuse, NY

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

Epiphone, established in 1873, has always been a great guitar maker. If Les Paul were still alive, he'd say the same thing. He used Epiphone guitars exclusively when he recorded with the late Mary Ford. In fact his first Les Paul guitar (the Les Paul Log) was built at Epiphone by Les Paul. Gibson purchased Epiphone in 1957 and promised to keep up the high quality of the Epiphone name. The Gibson SG Reissue of this bass doesn't have the original controls like the Epiphone and so is limited as far as tone is concerned. The only thing it retained from the original design is the short scale. That's why the Epiphone EB-3 is still the more sound investment and why I own one. As for people saying it sounds muddy, that's the price you pay for owning Humbucker pickups and if you add a compressor the mud goes away. Simple fix and a great sound.

Amazing Bass for A Great Price

By Sam Polk

from Newton

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

I decided to buy a bass online and this bass caught my attention because of it's body and SG style. I bought it and I found out that it had sort of low action but it was good because it had a sort of distorted sound. The pickups are amazing. I hit the neck with the back of my foot and I heard it through the amp as clear as if I hit the actual pickups. I advise you to buy this bass because you will love it.

A bang for your buck!

By s201647

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

I recently purchased this bass online, after playing a friends. This thing really rocks. the Action is awesome, the feel is great, and this thing is so versatile it's not funny. It can be light and crisp, or dark and angry. The Neck is a thicker by far than the EB-0, but it is still fast. this is not a short scale bass, but a awesome reproduction instrument. It is neck heavy, don't just let it hang from your strap, the neck will end up on the floor. But if you let your right arm drape over the waist, it balances nicely. no need to hold it with your left hand while trying to play. All in all, this thing is a beautiful instrument that really puts out a wide variety of sounds, and is a great buy in it's price range. this is no 1000 dollar bass, but it plays better than alot of basses. i'ld reccommend this to anyone looking for a new bass.

It's okay for the price

By Cole M.

from ohio

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

This was my first bass and i wish i would have spent my money on something much better. For a beginner it would be alright but in about a year your skills would probably already have passed it up. This bass looks great but it doesn't have to good of sound quality, the tone and pickup controls only go so far. This bass basically just has a deep dull tone that doesn't very to much. I also found that the neck weighs more than the body so when i have the strap on i have to be holding the neck or it drops. Other than that i did find that the neck was pretty easy to grip for a beginner but unless you're on a supper tight budget i wouldn't get it. Pretty soon after you buy it (about a year or two) you'll be shopping for another bass. I think when it comes to instruments you're much better off buying the best one you can.

GREAT!

By Tristan

from Providence RI

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

I picked one of these up a few months back. And I absolutely love it. It has a wonderful feel to it. And the sound/tone is superb. I only have 2 complaints. First off the weight distribution is odd, and when you take your hand off the neck, the head seems to want to go for the floor. And the bridge on it is pretty poorly designed, the tension of the strings and constant playing seems to pull the bridge mounts out of the body, and looking online this seems to be a common problem, but nothing a little epoxy can't fix. And there are some really nice after market replacement bridges you can order for it that seem to prevent this issue. But all in all, this is a great bass and I HIGHLY recommend it to all bass players, beginner to professional.
