this is the second bass i have owned. i got it about 2 years ago when i was really into the "sg" look. it is a great looking bass over-all and will get a lot of looks. the seem-less neck to body construction give it a ridiculous amount of sustain. bridge design is great other then the saddle adjustments are hard to get to. the one thing that continues to impress me is its ability to stay in tune. the pickup selector is an amazing feature that i wish was on more basses, and the double humbuckers sound great. having said this, the neck width is too thin for my liking. often times when im playing my fingers will jam up because the action is a little awkward during faster fills. another major flaw is the weight distribution. this bass is VERY TOP HEAVY, meaning you will be supporting the neck as you play which slows playing down. also in a minor note, pinch-harmonics and chords are harder to do on this bass. all in all, a pretty good blues or starter bass, but if your going for more advanced playing then i would save your money and find a better bass like a higher end ibenez or a spector.

Just getting back into it. Excellent price and advice. When I get better, MAYBE I'll buy a more expensive bass. Until then, I owe it to the instrument to learn it to it's fullest.

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

This is an AWESOME instrument. I have been playing guitar since 1977. I recently joined this band and we could not find a bass player. Our drummer was going to quit if we couldn't complete the rhythm section so I moved over to bass. I spent the next six weeks borrowing basses from friends and bandmates until I just decided I really should own one. And because Jack Bruce (RIP) is my favorite electric bassist I wanted what he was playing. This is the best at a good price. I'm really happy I bought this and my bandmates agree.

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

I bought the Epiphone EB-3 primarily to study the bass guitar and build my chops. It's 3 pick up options add great options for the sounds it can make. It goes from super funky to super fat with a single turn of the knob. It has a clean sound regardless of the pick up configuration you choose. The pots are tight and accurately adjust the volume and tone.

The one negative thing is it is top heavy. The neck will fall as far as it can if you let go with both hands. This is easily mitigated by keeping my right arm near the top cutout when my left hand has to be away from the neck.

This is my first experience with Epiphone, and I am very pleased.

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

I purchased this bass 8 months ago from GC because I was hoping that it would satisfy my 40 year lust for a Gibson. Initially I was very happy with it. It looked great, held tune forever, nice thin, narrow neck and was lighter and sounded a lot different than my Fender PB or '65 Hofner BB. Actually had a much wider range of tones than the PB through my Digitech processor. However, just like people, its what's inside that really counts! The electrics - tone, volume and pickups are marginal at best. As others have said, the neck pickup booms, the bridge pu is weak and the tone & volume controls have very little effect. Maybe some of us got ones from a bad batch. It still looks great and has very good action, but strip away the lipstick and makeup and it has a hollow heart!

            For the money ...

            By Gary Garvin

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

I caught this Epiphone EB-3 bass on sale and had it sent to a local Guitar Center for pick up. It took hardly any time, and a salesman helped me open it up to make sure that there was no damage. After restringing with flat-wound bass strings and putting on strap locks, everything's cool. I did some very minor set up (truss rod and bridge) because of the new strings. It plays well, sounds really decent, and I'm leaving it as is. The ONLY semi-gripe, like with the Gibson SG bass I have, is that the pots are lacking range. It's necessary to make sure you have the maxed out bass volume set on the amp with the pots all the way open, and then work backwards with the knobs to calm the volume down. Yes ... I'd recommend this ... for the money, very nice!

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

For the price you can not beat this bass. It plays like a dream with a crazy range of tones. Guitar Center set mine up for me before I bought it; I like the strings super low to the neck. With great action and wonderful sound I can n ot complain about this beautiful instrument except to say its a bit neck heavy. My solustion was to tie the strap to the head stock above the nut. Problem solved. I would go so far as to say it plays and sounds better than my very expensive fender bass. If you want $1000 dollar sound and looks for much less this is the bass for you.

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

As you can probably tell, I have a few issues with this bass. First off I bought mine because of this Japanese band called the pillows. So, I ordered from the store. I had to wait for Epiphone to make a new batch of them. That was actually a big plus for me. A new factory fresh bass. When I got it. I was really pleased. The cherry color is ALOT darker than this photo. I loved the finish. but then I noticed the fools who shipped it... chipped it. The finish by the control plate was badly cracked(probably from being dropped) but that was not an issue at the time. This bass played GREAT! The neck can get a bit muddy , but thats what the bridge pickup is for. Over time the bridge furrels started coming out of the body. I had to get it fixed. and a few other problems arose. So then I traded a friend for his P-bass and realized that the neck on this bass is TINY up until fret 5 or so. Great feel, amazing tone(really you'll be surprised), but be careful.

Looks cool, but that's about it

            By Matt Thomas

            from Euless, TX

Comments about Epiphone EB-3 SG Bass:

I bought one of these in 2000 and traded it in for an Epiphone Goth Thunderbind which is a much better bass. The bass itself is not balanced, as the neck dives if you aren't holding it. The tone from the pickups I didn't dig, either. The neck pickup is really boomy with lows but weak and tinny on the treble end and the bridge pickup is ok, just a typical growl and with both together at full volume is just plain muddy with any EQ setting I tried. Another thing I really don't care for on this bass is the bridge due to the fact the saddles are not adjustable individually and can only raise or lower the ends of the bridge itself. This makes adjusting very awkward, but you will never get the precise string height you will get from most bass bridges where you can adjust each saddle height. The tone suffers are a result of this, also as the string volume is weaker on the E string versus the A and D strings. All in all, unless you're only going for the look of trying to be Jack Bruce in a Cream Tribute band, this bass is a big disappointment.
