This is my first bass. I walked into the store to look at basses and saw this. I looked at it I knew it was the one I wanted. I plugged it in and it played great. It has a good fat sound with good highs and lows. The one pickup is kind of iffy though. It's also hard to slap on it. Slapping just seems unnatural. But, this is still a great bass if you're a beginner.

I've been using this bass exclusively for about a year. I love the small scale because I have small hands and I can play it much faster than bigger basses. I love the tone of the pickup, but I feel like it doesn't pick up the E string as well as the others and therefore notes I play on that string are quieter. It's also hard to pick this bass with fingers as there is no good place to rest your hand, especially if you're playing the E string. It's much better with a pick. Due to the shape of it, my picking hand gets really fatigued quickly due to the angle that it forces me to hold my arm and it's sharp edges make it very uncomfortable compared to other basses. The short scale is great for standard tuning, but if you need to lower it at all, the intonation gets all out of wack quickly and it never sounds in tune. So avoid this bass if you plan to play in any drop tunings. Despite that, I still enjoy it. It's a good bass for the money, but it clearly has it's limitations.

My favorite guitar came in a bass style with warm low tones and punchy high tones. Truly a wonderful instrument.

great starter bass

By MC Chauncey

from Pennsylvania

Comments about Epiphone EB-0 Electric Bass:

When I first decided to play bass, I knew I wanted a nice, cheap bass with a small scale, because I'd never played before, and I'm a girl with small hands, and also because I wanted to save money (who doesn't? =]) The bass itself is very well-made, considering its price, though I have found that the nut on the output jack seems to twist around when it's plugged in, and after constantly re-tightening it I've had the bad luck to snap some of the wires inside (a problem fixed with a few screwdrivers, a razor and electric tape). My other complaint is that it is SO GOSHDARN HEAVY. It starts to kill my shoulder after a few songs...which isn't all that fun. But all in all, a great starter bass. But get a good, wide strap that's easy on your shoulders to help distribute the weight more evenly.

A Personal Favorite

Comments about Epiphone EB-0 Electric Bass:

This is my first bass that I own but I have tried another EB0 before I bought this one. I have played this bass for eight months and I haven't grown tired of it. It has such an excellent feel to it. Such an awsome tone. As soon as I started playing this particular bass, I immediatlely fell in love with it. By far, besides the Thunderbird, the EB0 is an instant classic that follows in the footsteps of its Gibson cousins.

Good guitar

Comments about Epiphone EB-0 Electric Bass:

Slapping is a little hard because of pick up location and must be done on guitar neck, making it hard to slap and pop because u cant pop over the pickup either.. it looks good though, sounds good, definitely worth the money..

hmmmm........

By Fender_bass

Comments about Epiphone EB-0 Electric Bass:

The epiphone eb-0 has a very boring, non versatile tone. It comes equipped with a low quality bridge(I know this because I have played several of the same bass and gotten the same results). The bridge gives it terrible sustain as you go higher up on the fretboard and an annoying buzzing sound if you like to use drop-d or drop-c tuning. it is also a shorter scale bass than the norm. I would not recommend this as a purchase for an experienced player but maybe as a cheap starter bass. My recommendation is to treat yourself to a standard p-bass or an ibanez.

Great Bass

Comments about Epiphone EB-0 Electric Bass:

I've have been playing bass for about 2 years now and my dad says I'm pretty good. I started out with my dad's 1960 something Kimberly bass ,but anyway this SG is a great bass, a smooth nice sound, everything is good. But I'd like a Gibson though. The only bad thing was the Volume knob fell off.

Amazing bass

Comments about Epiphone EB-0 Electric Bass:

This bass is great. This is my first bass and gives me the perfect tone for what I play. This bass is very light and the picture doesnt even show how beautiful the cherry finish is. I agree it is very hard to slap so I play with a pick (also cause I play guitar.) This bass looks just like Tripps from dope, Who is a big influence for me. I Cant complain except for the neck heavier than body but thats it.

Comments about Epiphone EB-0 Electric Bass:

I wrote a review for this bass a few days ago, and I made one big mistake I need to correct. My wife did tell me to get this bass, but - and here's the correction - it arrived the day AFTER she passed away and never got to see it. Sorry my brain was still disengaged when I wrote the first review. The more I play it, the more I appreciate my darling wife's blessing on it. She would have loved it. I've also had a little more time now to play it, and I am more impressed with its retro 60s sound and feel than before. I do highly recommend changing the bridge with a Hipshot Gibson two-point bridge. It's fully adjustable for action and intonation, and the string saddles are independent of each other. That means tuning one string will not affect the other three as is the case with the original bridge. Also, the sustain improvement is quite noticeable. If you want to be truly happy with an EB-O, just do it. I also found the Rotosound 77SM flat wound strings to be very good and add to that vintage sound. They fit on very well, too. I changed my rating from four to five stars due to the improved performance. It's worth the money.
