This guitar looks great, but needs a little work for it to sound great. The strings were a little high, this is normal with most new guitars. The sound was OK out of the box. I wanted it to sound better so I upgraded some parts. I added a new tusq nut, a tusq saddle and some tusq bridge pins. Now the guitar sounds as good as it looks.
I just got this guitar after quite a long time searching for one of these as most guitar stores don't carry it in store...online only. Despite being drawn to the guitar by it's appointments, I did my research on it still. Most people would be quick to discard this guitar as a low budget clunker but let me tell you, it is FAR more than that. I've been playing for 17 years and I've played a lot of guitars...A LOT! This one is definitely a keeper! The Dove has a strong projection and excellent separation of frequencies. Deep lows and snappy highs. A lot of this can be credited to its Solid Spruce top and Maple back and sides. Overall, the guitar feels quite solid and has a little bit of weight to it, which I like (I hate acoustics that feel as light and flimsy as a Costco-quality instrument). If super bright isn't your thing (keep in mind, it IS a maple body), I suggest going with Phosphor Bronze strings. That's what I use on all my acoustics. I will agree, however, that the injection-molded parts have got to go! I immediately put some Martin ebony bridge pins on mine and it made a huge difference! Less tinny and more robust. Since I couldn't find one of these in a store, I almost settled for the Hummingbird...I'm glad I didn't! The Hummingbird is VERY dark and flat-sounding, IMO. If you need a great playing, great sounding and great bargain guitar, look no further than the Epi Dove. Some reviewers say its pretty close to the Gibson and I'd be inclined to agree! You won't regret it!
this guitar is amazing right off the bat. ive had mine for two and a half years and i never get tired of playing it. the grover tuners stay in tune extremely well and the sound from this guitar is amazing, not to mention it a beautiful guitar, deff. worth every penny!
I played a Gibson Dove, and then an Epiphone Dove, and I literally could not tell the difference. I ordered mine through the mail a few days later, and as soon as it was delivered I unboxed it, and examined it. Everything shipped perfectly, and even had brand new strings on it. This guitar sounds like heaven, and has the looks to match, for the price, this is a steal. This guitar will surely please all guitarist easily. Everything from the tuners, down to the Bridge is excellent quality, plus its a solid spruce top, with a rosewood fretboard. Epiphone didnt cut any corners with this guitar, and its easy to see. Hands down, one of my favorite Acoustics.
I own a gibson J45 & 2 Martins. I just bought this guitar out of curiosity, & was totaally amazed! The tone is all Gibson. It lacks a bone nut but does not suffer from it. It's got Grover keys & STAYS in tune. Played perfect, first time out of the box. Elixar polywebs add to the playability even more. Mic it up with a sm57 & forget about a pickup. Players at any level will love this guitar
OK. I'll give you my honest opinion of this guitar. It's a nice guitar. It's not the guitar you get if your planning on touring the country, but if your into playing as a hobby and your not out to get the most expensive, beautiful, fancy guitar out there, then try this one out. It has a relaxing, chill sound to it, and it also isn't very hard to play. The only thing I could complain about is that its a little bit muted like the Hummingbird guitar. Other than that, I love the guitar and I made a good choice when I bought it. You should too.
So, I bought one of these bad boys last month, and lets just say, Gibson knew what they were doing when they made this guitar! And epiphone did an amazing job recreating it! I have been playing for only 7 months. But I play stuff from Clapton to Lifehouse. and almost everything in between., and this guitar is amazing for all genres! I highly recomend this guitar for most intermediate and expert players!!!
This guitar is one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever seen and one of the best I have ever played. It's funny (and a bit ridiculous) that people will judge a guitar on its price. This guitar is UNBELIEVABLE! Want a good guitar, easy to play, good looking, and beatiful sound? The Answer is easy - BUY THIS GUITAR!!!
This is a great accoustic guitar. I am a strictly Gibson man, so when I recieved this guitar as a gift I was less than optimistic. It blew me away. It stays in tune incredibly, I haven't had to retune for a month now and its still keeping the tune. The sound is great, it really projects with clarity, especially in a room with good accoustics. The finish is beautiful, you will definitely be getting some looks. It isn't just a good "beginners" guitar, or a good "value priced" guitar, it's a good guitar, period.
Just got a Epi Dove, Sounds like Heaven, Easy to Play! Not to mention that it is Gorgeous! I suggest anyone who even looks at this guitar Buy It! The price could not be better for the quality and sound of this guitar. It is a Legend and you should make the best purchase of your life! Five Stars! Two Thumbs wayyy Up!
