Thats right I said GIBSON I had a nice '335 back when I was a kid and sold it for a more rockin' guitar, sure would like to have that 335 back. But I gotta tell ya,I have a LP std. and a 1953 L4C(a ES-175 body with no PU's)And this little Dot plays just exactly like them.Never thought I would sing the praises of a Korean guitar, but I bought this Dot used at GC here in Fort Wayne. Tried a few other guitars, and was suprised to hear this beauty with rusty gross strings, sound more resonant with better harmonic accents than anything (although the alleycat with p-90's was close)I played in the price range. The pickups are the ones they put on the Epi LP-neck (can't play the Epi LP's necks feel like a bat) She's just broke in and in awesome condition but not new. Not a lick(pun) of trouble with it, don't think I've even adjusted the action(did intonate her though) If anything I might slap my old LP PAF on it just to see if it's any different. If you get a chance, play one of these, and don't let some punk tell you it doesn't look rockin enough. From Cream to Ten Years After to Frank Zappa this is a classic tone machine. The sustain block does make it heavier than a ES335 but with f-holes it can sustain forever, If you can't rock this Guitar, buy yourself a ridiculous hockey-stick black thing that you can't give away in 5 years when you grow out of it.Been at this guitar thing for 30 years now, so either I'm an old fart who likes old country lookin' guitars, or I speak the truth. But if want to play a great guitar buy one of these, if you want to play hockey buy a hockey stick.

This was my first guitar handed down from my dad. Great beginner guitar, really great actually. It's not too smooth to play and you really have to press as close to the frets as possible to get a clean sound which forces you to do so otherwise it sounds bad. The neck and the rosewood fretboard aren't too smooth, but overall, the guitar has a pretty good sound. I started with this on a $40 practice amp and I was quite happy. Well priced. I'm not a fan of hollow guitars, but it does have a nice jazz sound. This guitar will force you to develop good habits so great for starting. However, if you think you will progress very fast, after a while you will outgrow it and will be blown away by any top guitar like the american standard or les paul which makes you appreciate even more.

Incredible Starter's Guitar

By Hugo RB

from Port Perry, Ontario, Canada

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

This guitar has made my year, and perhaps more years to come. What first attracted me to this beauty was in fact just that, it's beauty! Everywhere I go with my guitar people always say how gorgeous it looks. The finish was also spot on (I got the vintage sunburst), I polish it every week or so and whenever I walk up to it, it shines like the sun. Thats the first part. Next was the action and playability of this guitar. I have to say that out of the many guitars I tried out at numerous guitar stores, this one just felt right the moment I picked it up. It's bulky and quite solid, like a Les Paul, and yet it was a lot easier to play then a Les Paul in my opinion. If your somewhat of a big guy than you'll love this guitar. It fits perfectly on my knee and its very comfortable when standing up. I gave it a 4 for features because after a mere few weeks, the output jack was getting loose. Its been like that for months now (since christmas when I bought it) and finaly got to a point where it didn' work. Its at the repair shop this very moment. Other than that nothing this guitar is a low-priced dream. The pickups are good and very versatile to your style of playing. I play mine through a Roland Cube 30 and it sounds very clean when on the Jazz Clean setting. Also, the intonation is very good for a korean made guitar. One tip though, a good thing to do with guitars shipped from overseas is clean the frets. A friend of mine said that the salt air tends to rust the frets a bit. If you cover in between the frets with masking tape then rub the frets with steel wool. After a good rub to each metal fret, you'll end up with a nice shiny neck and a beautiful brighter sound after restringing. So thats it. Enjoy this guitar while you have it. It will always be one of my favourites and the instrument that got me into guitar to begin with.

Bang for the Buck

By AndyA

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

This is an amazing insturment for the price. I have played it on stage several times and everytime people swear it's a Gibson. The tone is bright but handles distortion like a champ. It has cured my haunting desire for a Gibson es-335. I believe it's still the best, but the Epiphone dot 335 is a very close second.

Great Guitar For Blues

By Gibsongod

from San Fransisco, CA

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

This guitar is great for anybody who needs a cheap guitar and wants to play the blues. It has bright bluesy tone, and looks killer. Definietly a must for someone who wants a Gibson Es 335, but doesn't have the cash.

Great guitar at a great price.

By noostik

from IL

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

I bought the Dot guitar to start out my electric guitar learning. The guitar looks very nice in Cherry red, finish quality is great, no complaints on initial factory setups. The only problem is the E logo on the pick guard tends to drop out. With regards to the sound, there are 4 knobs, 2 for volume and the other 2 on the tone. The sound is more towards jazz rather than metal, that's another reason I bought it. Over all, a nice looking guitar with nice tones.

semi-hollow?

By dave

from minneapolis, mn

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

I honestly never thought I would buy a semi-hollow body guitar, but this guitar really sold itself to me. being a "strat" player exclusively for years I grew a bit weary of the single coil sound, the lack of sustain, and small body. I had intended for a gibson les paul studio, but even so, It was incredibly heavy, and it had a small body that was very uncomfortable for someone with long arms. I tried one of the dots out and it fit like a glove(so to speak). A few months later after the guitar broke in, I honestly couldn't be happier. nice sustain, good action, and the pickups sound good. I don't remember when I touched the strat last! For the price you pay for the amount of guitar you get, I believe this is the last of the good deals.

Lack of Polish-Wealth of Tone

By Rozumnik

from Washington, DC

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

The Epiphone Dot represents the delicate cusp the divides so called ?serious guitars? from ?cut, sand, paint specials.? The first thing that catches your eye is the classic styling, cloned from the Dot's older, more expensive, and arguably better sounding brother the Gibson 335. Albeit the main difference really lies in the details. Namely the lack of immaculate fretboard adornment, the sometimes creaky die cast bridge, and the ?left a little too long? leads on the pots visible through the bottom F-Hole. From an aesthetic standpoint, this overall lack of polish leaves the Dot with the feeling of a work in progress. But no one just LOOKS at a guitar, right? Pick your favorite amp, be it that brown one with the oxblood speaker cloth, or the black one with the silver fringe, upon plugging in the Dot you will be greeted with the same mellow but punchy tone irregardless of any effects applied. And herein is what really sets the Dot apart from its lower quality rivals, tone. Like any good vocalist a guitar should have its own voice, not just the same cookie-cutter single-coil growl or ho-hum humbucker-lull of every other guitar on the planet. Rather, with a good set of low-gauge strings the Dot is able to take on a variety of tonal modalities without loosing its unique sound. Feel the need to quell that inner desire for West-Coast Wes groove, the Dot can do it. Got a hankering for grizzly punk rock, dial in some treble and distortion and the Dot does it. Need for harmonic discord? Tune-down and crank it up and the Dot becomes a heavy-metal dream. The point is, despite its sometimes rough aesthetic graces the Dot retains a wealth of tonal beauty. And isn't that what a guitarist should really look for? Highly recommended.

Buy This Now!!!

By Mark Corrigan

from Buckeye, AZ

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

I wanted a semi-hollow body, and chose this one. The sound is really, really warm and full toned. Set-up out of the box was perfect, and the build quality (as with most Epiphones) is top notch. I think this will be my new favorite. I am comparing this to my American made Fender Strat and my Gibson Les Paul, and I challenge anybody to find anything wrong with this guitar. It is easily comparable in quality, sound, and playability to a guitar costing 3 or 4 times as much. The neck feels smooth and has the right shape, finish is flawless. You will not be disappointed.

Good Value

By Bowhunterwt

from Bowling Green, ky

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

I bought this Dot series for mostly recording. I had two strats and they just didn't do justice for some of the mellow stuff I was doing. I bougth this guitar at the store in Indiana and I am amazed at the sound and beauty of this guitar. After returning home with it and playing it the input jack fell inside due to a loose nut. I went back to the store that night and everyone in the store was getting that jack back into place. These guys were the best. I salute these guys for keeping me happy and for great service. I got the cherry red version and I just recorded with it today. I have so many good sounding tracks I it's hard to decide which track I want to use. Great guitar for the money

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

This guitar is awful. DO NOT BUY! The neck is bowed and the pickups are lousey- they are muddy and lack town. This guitar is way over priced too. The tone and volume nobs were also out of place. I do not recommend this guitar for anybody, you will hate it.

fantastic.

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

Great guitar. im playing through a spider 3 and it sounds just great. the finnish is drool-worthy(cherry) and there were no dents or flaws when i bought it, mind you; i plucked it right off the wall at the store! only one of the pots is a bit scratchy. its rather heavy so buy some straplocks to go along with it. as for tuning stability. i bought this then restrung it IMMEDIATELY, then the next day i went on a 3 week trip. came back yesterday and it is STILL in tune even harmonically.

A Sleeper Guitar - Lackluster looks, Amazing Quality

By Gaz

from Fairfax, Va

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

At first glance, the guitar seems like just another Epiphone knock off of a Gibson 335. Then you plug it into an amp, and it howls like no other. The one i played, though used and had strings that definatley had some blood on it from it's last user, sounded so amazing and was so versatile with the styles I could play on it, I had to have it. To be completely honest, playing it made me feel like Noel Gallagher of Oasis. What this guitar lacks in aesthetics, it more than makes up for it in quality.

There are better guitars out there for the money

By TMan2006

from Minneapolis, MN

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar and the very first night the pickup fell off. I returned it and got another, but that one had incredibly tinny sound and seemed to also be DOA. I'm glad I bought from Guitar Center because they worked with me to get a guitar that worked, but you should probably stay away from this guitar.

30 yrs of playing but still suck

By kelly

from lemont il

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

I'm determined to become a great blues player, been playing on and off for over 30 yrs and finally hope to have more time to devote to my music. That being said this guitar not only looks great but feels awesome. It's simply the Sheraton with out all the bells and whistles , in my opinion don't look that great anyways. On top of that it's the perfect guitar to improve on as one becomes more skilled but for now I absolutely love this guitar.

All hail the Dot!

By Tor

from Washington

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

The Epiphone Dot is a quality instrument. Its able to be played in all types of music but, it really shines while playing Rock and Blues. The action is low and adjustable with the tune-o-matic bridge. This makes it very easy to play. My only beef with it is the second string on the 7th fret will buzz. Thats not the case with all but just mine.. Over all its a wonderful instrument

By HJF1998

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar in January 2010 and the first time i played it i was amazed by the beautiful tone of it but it is very fragile. When you get it take it to a local guitar ceneter and have them tighten the input on the guitar and sometimes the volume nobs fall off so check those out to. But other wise this guitar is GREAT!!!!

A Heavy Metal Monster!

By Rocker91

from Washington, NJ

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

You heard me, heavy metal. Many Heavy metal guitarists overlook archtops when searching for a guitar beacuase of their association with jazz, blues, or classic rock. However, the're highly effective metal machines, and the Epiphone Dot is no exeption. It has amazing prescence and the semi hollowbody chamber gives it the sustain of the stereotypical "metal guitar." The stock pickups(especially the neck)aren't very hot, but I corrected the problem by raising the bridge pickup and heating the one in the bridge position(I did this by Removing the pole screws, then reinserting them). And it makes a great guitar for just about every other style. The one I own had a warped neck, but I've played dozens of stock models and have yet to fing antother warped neck(I had mine adjusted). I might go as far as to say it's better than It's Gibson counterpart.

Warning: This Guitar May Greatly Improve Your Playing!!!

By Michael

from Lafayette, Louisiana

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

Since I was young I have longed for a good hollow body guitar. I bought a used Dot and what I got was not a good guitar, it was a great guitar! I have played 335's and numerous other brands but nothing beats this one for the price. It is almost as though she suggests new stylistic variations to all that I play. Yes I do think this is one of the best guitars available for the price. Try one but beware it will call you back and make you long for that fine full tone.

Cons

Comments about Epiphone Dot Electric Guitar:

I am a rank beginner (emphasis on rank), so take this for what it's worth. I originally bought a no name piece of junk guitar that was difficult to get a decent sound out of, had terrible intonation, and was very difficult to play. The plan was to upgrade in a year or two. I do play ukulele and some piano, so I knew that an instrument that bad would slow my progression. Then I saw a used dot at a great price. I already knew that I wanted one, so I bought it. The instrument is beautiful, it had fantastic action, feels great in my hands and even I can make good sounds with this. I love it so much I am practicing my butt off just to be worthy of it. In short, worth every penny.
