First off, the majority of these reviews complain about intonation and/or string height etc... Any guitar bought brand new should be set up and intonated immediately after purchasing; by someone who knows the proper way to set up a guitar. With that said, this guitar looks and plays incredible. I bought the flame top today and the craftsmanship is there. The finish is beautiful and very well done. As far as electronics go, I plugged into various amps while demoing the guitar, and the tone is very flexible and the guitar's own natural tone shines through any amp you put it through. With a tiny bit of tweaking of the neck and bridge to fit my personal preferences, I was ready to go. I cannot tell the difference in playability between my guitar and my friend's $2000 Gibson 335. I highly reccomend this guitar to anyone who desires a semi-hollow body to add to their collection.

Great Guitar

By Peteiscool1

from MO

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar about a year ago. So far, I have been more than pleased with it. When I first got it, I expected an average epiphone quality guitar. I was blown away! All it needs is a professional set up and it will play like a Gibson. My only criticism would be that when I first received this guitar, the input jack was very loose. However, all I had to do was take it into Guitar Center and they just replaced it with a new one. I love this guitar. It has a very versatile tone, it sounds amazing with either a regular clean tone or a dirty tone. I play through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. This guitar definitely has a nice, rich, hollow body tone. The neck is nice and thick, but not so thick that it limits playability. It almost feels like an acoustic guitar. The flame top looks AMAZING and I definitely recommend this guitar to anyone who is looking to buy a hollow body on a budget. Great, great guitar.

Everyday I got the Blues

By James Matthew Brunson

from Chattanooga, TN

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

If you play the blues, and you're not a fender person, then this guitar is for you. I'm not a strat or tele fan, I like Gibsons. However I couldn't afford the a Gibson, so I tried out the Dot Deluxe. It sounded so good, I had to pick up the Gibson and try it again. I couldn't hear the difference at all! I've played this guitar everyday for about eight months now and still can't get enough. I use the bridge pickup mostly because I really dig the clean sharp sound it gives. Very B.B. King.(not that I can play like the King) but the Dot can also get a very dirty sound. It's nice clean or with distortion or overdrive. Not to mention every time I play with other people they always talk about what a beautiful guitar it is. I bought it from GC, it was the display model, and it had a little rumble in the Low E and was a little out of tune past the 12th fret, but a quick setup by a friend of mine and it was perfect. So you may have to have it set, but the bottom line is, if you want a great looking and sounding guitar for the blues look no further. Buy it today.

Gibson Quality at an affordable price

By Anonymous

from Holdenville, OK

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I have owned the Epiphone Dot Deluxe for 2 Months and must say It is a Gibson quality Guitar that working people can afford to purchase. It's tonal quality and playabilty is second to none. It is very well constructed and will last a lifetime if you don't abuse it. I play it through a Vox ADV15 Valvetronix, mostly using AC15 with moderate reverb or delay. My friends marvel at the beautful melodies and chords which eminate from this instrument. Great job Epiphone!! Buy this guitar if you're on a limited budget and want an instrument which will rival the high end Gibsons which cost much more. You can't go wrong the Epiphone Dot Deluxe.

Don't pass by a gem of a guitar

By ClaptonJr

from Caldwell, Idaho

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I owned this guitar for about a year and couldn't believe how beautiful it played and sounded. I thought I would have to replace the P/U'a but found them to be very nice indeed. The only reason I got rid of it was I needed an acoustic guitar and didn't have a lot of money so I traded it in. The only thing I didn't like was the gold plating started to come off on the bridge, the bridge P/U and the tuning keys, but in defence of the guitar I believe it was because my sweat is acidic. I have no hesitation in recomending this guitar to anyone who is looking for a great sounding semi-hollow body guitar and dosen't have the $$ to spend on a Gibson. I'd own it again in a heartbeat. By the way I've owned over 60 guitars in my lifetime, some of them being real Gibson ES335's and this one stood up rea nice in comparison.

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Excellent guitar.Actually I bought two of these. The first being a Natural finish.I was'nt really happy with the fret work on this one.The edges were very ruff to the point where they could almost cut your finger. But before giving up entirely on this model of guitar I went to another Guitar Center and played another one. This one is The sunburst flamed maple top model. After a slight tweaking by the Salesman this guitar plays and sounds excellent.I have played and owned many guitars in my life. And have owned many I wish would not have got away.I'm at the age now that Im plan on keeping what I currently own and not buy anymore.I would not worry about this one being stole at a gig because of the price I paid for it.If I had a Gibson and was playing it out I would be as nervous as a guy on death row.Buy this guitar....but dont get in a hurry...play several before you make up your mind and get a good one..X Gibson Empolyee.....

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Bought a Dot Deluxe April 12th 2010. NOT disapointed at all. This guitar ROCKS.Exceeded my expectations in every way possible. I am TOTALLY satisfied with the guitar AND Guitar Centers service. If I ever lose this one, I will buy another. Beutiful bluesy tone with an appitiete for full blown classic rock. Absolutly a rockin deal for the buck! Stays in tune, crystal clear or growling overdrive. What a work horse.

Learn and burn with the best!

By Tugboat Tony

from Jacksonville, FL

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I have had this guitar now for 2 years and still haven't played another guitar that puts this one to shame. I learned everything that I know on this guitar. It has a neck that fits my hands perfectly and I have hands that are a little on the big side. The action on this guitar was a little high for my liking, but I like my action very low. This guitar will play the blues like any other out there. You can make it cry and scream with ease. When you switch over to metal, your lows will not be as low as the solid guitars, but you can play along and know one will notice. You get your moneys worth in playability and looks here.

Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Elect

By guero

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for a few weeks now, and so far, I'm very happy with it. The sunburst is beatufiul, the gold hardware looks awesome, and it gets great tone. I've got a cheap Line 6 Amp, but even with that thing I can get great tone for everything from jazz and blues to punk and metal. The only problem that I've had is that sometimes it goes out of tune quickly, but it's not that much of a problem.

Reallly nice guitar!

By Cody

from Tampa, Florida

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for a few years now, and it's a great buy for the price! The only problems I've had with it is that gold plating seems to wear off pretty quickly, especially since I have sweaty hands, and it's not the best at staying in tune, although it's pretty decent. This, along with a 69 Telecaster Thinline, used to be one of my two main guitars I would use for shows, but I switched to a 72 Telecaster Deluxe because it was simply too heavy to use for long periods of time on stage. Don't let the fact that it's a hollowbody fool you, it has a great tone for heavier rock. I now have a set of extra heavy strings on it and I use it for tuning down to drop C and drop A# for hardcore songs, and it actually sounds really good for that! My only complaint tone wise is that the neck pickup is just a little too muddy for my taste. All in all, it's a great guitar for the price!

A Great Guitar at a Great Price

By Dave

from Las Vegas, NV.

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

After owning and selling a whole lot of guitars, many expensive Fenders, Gibsons, Ric's and Guilds. I have come to a point in my life where I really don't care about price, name brand or hype. I have become a fan of Epiphone because they feel good in my hands, they have the neck shape that appeals to my personal taste, they sound good to my ears. Tone is in the ear of the beholder. It is not that I like buying things made overseas, I do not. But Fender and Gibson and other companies have put their instruments at a price that is out of reach for most musicians. I am retired now and have to look for quality at a good price. I traded in my Sheratin II to help me pay for a Gibson ES339. Nice guitar, but I am not a fan of nitrocelulose lacquer finishes. They are not player friendly. My hands stick to the neck. Thus I sold it. along with every other Gibson I had bought over the years. Anyway, let me get to the point! I read about others complaining about string height and intonation. If you are going to play guitar, learn to set it up and intonate it! It is not rocket science. At this time I own two Epiphone guitars. An aged Cherry 66 Wilshire R.I. and The Dot Deluxe. After setting both up to my personal taste, I would not trade them for the world! The tone, playability, the feel of the neck in my hands is sheer delight. I am 53 now and have been around long enough to know tone and quality. Epiphone has both in Aces.

Great for the cost but it did need some help

By Jim

from Marshall, MI

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I bought the Sunburst model of this about 6 months ago. The tone is excellent and it seems very well made. However, I did find the same issue as a previous reviewer in that the frets were very high and sharp edged. To the point of being uncomfortable or even causing your fingers to skip off the string when you slide your hand. I spent $65 for a professional setup at a local repair shop and it's a dream now. Smooth, exceptional tone, great intonation, I couldn't be happier with it. Another oddity on this guitar is that the bottom of the neck is finished all the way to the top edge of the fret board which the tech said was wrong but would wear off w/ play or I could use some 600 wet sand paper and take it off all at once. I think they have these lower end Epiphones getting parts from the higher end shops when they make a mistake but not a catastrophic one. My theory only but it seems to make sense.

Tried it, Loved it, Bringin it home come Christmas time!

By Lily

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Ever since the washer fell off of my cheapo Ibanez for $100 from a local shop, I knew it was time for a change. I was doing research and came across this little gem and it just had to be mine. When I heard it was at my local Guitar Center, I zipped over there as fast as possible. Once I played it, I loved it! Come Christmas time, it will be plugged into an amp, ready to be played. Overall great price and great guitar for an Epiphone! If you see it, you'd be blind to just walk right by this beauty! 5 stars no argument!

My realistic dream guitar...

By Hunter

from Portland, OR

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I have pined over this guitar and others like it for many years. So I could have a new guitar, this last weekend my wife and friends purchased it for my birthday and I haven't been happier. The two separate volume and toner knobs provide a wide range of sounds to instill the perfect blues or jazz feel to any song! The look of the sunburst can stop you in your tracks and I plan on keeping it looking like bran new for as long as possible. It may not be a Gibson, but I have yet to play a Gibson and am not in any hurry to pick one up. This guitar is everything I need for the time being...perhaps if I decide to play or record professionally and have the money to purchase one I will. Until then, this is my new baby and I love it!

got this guitar couple of months go. i'm pleased but it could've been better. the tuners on it are junk. this guitar will barely stay in tune at all. this guitar has a nice mellow tone which i love. the neck feels good but the action was set high when i bought it. drop 100 bucks into a better nut and some better tuners and this guitar would be a real player.

BLUE LOUNGE guitarist

By garage glen

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

First off I like to say this guitar is a bautiful. Great wood grain gold burst finish, gold hardwear, classic 57 humbuckers, although I don't think they are gibson classic 57 pups, but they sound pretty good.If they are what a deal! You may want to change the strings (they feel like they want to cut into your fingers!)I put on some DEAN MARKLEY. Sounds good clean BB KING style and with some distortion it chould rock out with most guitars. I have a IBANEZ ARTCORE 73 and the DOT is a little thicker body and heavier so when standing up for a while your shoulder will start to hurt (get a wide strap should do the trick)

I just bought this axe for my jazz band purposes at school, and I tell you, it works better than anything I've played in a long while. It has a much different tone than my strat, that is, in a good way. This is just the perfect guitar for me. I love it!

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I just got my new Dot Deluxe on 9-13 and I couldn't put it down. I found the neck very easy to play. I haven't played for 15 years and got to know the guitar very quickly. The finish on the guitar is beautiful. I showed the guitar to a friend and he thought I pay $2,000 for it. For the price and quility of this guitar you can't beat it. I would say buy it before the price goes up.
