Overview

Epiphone presents the new Blueshawk Deluxe, the long awaited return of an original classic first introduced in the 90s that' been a connoisseur' favorite ever since. The Blueshawk Deluxe features the upper bout curve and cutaway of a Les Paul but with the semi-hollowbody design and small f-holes of an archtop. The result is one of the most versatile and distinctive guitars anywhere. And now the Epiphone Blueshawk Deluxe features new P-90 PRO Single Coil pickups plus a 6-position Rotary VariTone.

The Epiphone Blueshawk Deluxe features a Mahogany body with a contoured back and a Maple top with a AAA Flame Maple Veneer. Both the body and the neck feature single-ply cream binding. The Blueshawk comes in three beautiful color finishes”Midnight Sapphire, Translucent Black, and Wine Red.

The Mahogany neck has a classic Epiphone SlimTaper D-shape profile with a 25.5 scale. The Blueshawk Deluxe has a smooth Rosewood fretboard with pearloid œDiamond inlays, a 12 radius, and 22 medium jumbo frets. The f-holes and semi-hollowbody construction along with the œLes Paul style cutaway make the Blueshawk Deluxe well balanced and easy to play with exceptional tone and range for chords and leads.

New P-90 PRO Pickups
The Epiphone Blueshawk Deluxe features new P-90 PRO single coil pickups. The P-90 PROs follow in the footsteps of the critically acclaimed ProBucker humbuckers and both are part of Epiphone' PRO series featuring old style construction materials for boutique sound that anyone can afford.

The Blueshawk Deluxe features a P-90R PRO Single Coil in the neck position and a P-90T PRO Single Coil in the lead position. Inside the body, there' a hum-cancelling "dummy" coil mounted between the pickups to provide hum reduction when the neck or bridge pickups are used alone. The pickups are controlled by the now classic Blueshawk 3-position pickup selector slide.

Epiphone P-90 PRO single coil pickups have been designed and tooled from the ground up with new bobbins manufactured to historic dimensions, Elektrisola magnet wire, sand cast Alnico V magnets, and pole shoes manufactured using correct alloys to original classic Gibson dimensions. And for you sticklers to detail, the new Epiphone P-90 PROs also have tin plated brass base plates like those used on '50s and '60s era Gibson P-90 pickups.

6 position Rotary VariTone
Along with exceptional power, the Blueshawk Deluxe also offers one-of-a-kind tonal flexibility. The 6-position Rotary VariTone provides a player with a wide tonal palette unavailable on most other instruments. The Varitone circuit is a "notch" filter that uses a range of capacitors to achieve a reduction in frequencies at set points within the BluesHawk's overall frequency spectrum. As the VariTone control is rotated from position 1 to position 6 the center frequency of the filter shifts from higher to lower frequencies. In position 1 the filter is removed from the circuit.

Controls include a Master Volume and a Master Tone with an easy to access Push/Pull VariTone True Bypass. The Epiphone Blueshawk Deluxe features a fully-adjustable Epiphone nickel bridge with a string-thru body design for incredible sustain. Tuning and intonation is made easy thanks to Epiphone Deluxe machine heads with a pro quality 18:1 tuning ratio. An optional hard case is also available.

Comments about Epiphone Blueshawk Deluxe Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Well I've had the Guitar now for 2 weeks. I ordered it in June and it arrived August 4th. I have the Wine Red. I love it. It came packaged well and the finish is beautiful. The P90 pickups are loud and clear with no hum. The noise canceling circuitry that is built in works well. I personally love the variation of tone I can achieve with the Varitone. I play it daily and haven't yet finished experimenting with the different tones I can get. The guitar is light and with the 25.5" scale I was afraid it would be neck heavy, but it is not. It's balanced well and comfortable to play standing or sitting. I played a Strat before mostly so the 25.5 inch scale is fine. I thought that the 12" radius might be quite a change from the 9.5" strat but the tapered D shape neck is really comfortable and I think might be easier for some slow bends. I had lots of people play it at the store when it came in, to see what they thought of it and everyone liked it. Even those initially skeptical when I ordered it. It's a really nice guitar and I'm glad I have it.

Comments about Epiphone Blueshawk Deluxe Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I liked playing with the Varitone. You could make a lot of different variations to tone. It had a nice feel and weight. I was worried it'd be neck heavy but it wasn't. It felt good sitting or standing.

I was disappointed in initial setup out of the box. I wasn't expecting things to be as far off, but it wasn't anything that couldn't be adjusted. The intonation took a while cause every string was very sharp. I finally got it in tune and it stayed in tune. Frets four and five were high. Not horrible I guess but it bothered me that my D and G strings buzzed like that. After I had that fixed it was fine.

I wish it came with a case. You have to use a Gibson SG or Les Paul and be satisfied with an imperfect fit on the front on one or back on the other. I got a nice Gig bag instead.

For the price it's fine and fun to play with. No problem recommending it to anyone. I'd suggest a good through look at it right away by yourself or someone you trust and a Professional Setup if you don't have the tools, know how or time to set it up nicely yourself.

Comments about Epiphone Blueshawk Deluxe Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I'll be honest! I purchased this guitar because I like Epiphone guitars. The Blueshawk,(if you read the specifications), is no more or no less as described. I use it for practice, jamming and have recorded with it. I did not purchase this guitar for playing at live shows. I like the 6-position Rotary VariTone, and it has a very comfortable neck for me (I have long fingers). I was able to find some interesting Bluesy tones. I recommend for the money.

Comments about Epiphone Blueshawk Deluxe Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Got this week, beautiful piece in look and feel. Commercially sticky but this unique piece demonstrates deserving the name of Gibson Epiphone. It's like picking up a Les Paul Custom - no kidding. Feels beautiful and smooooth. I chose it because looking for different sounds & different guitars to widen the palette as I compose music from the rhythm position. My first guitar with P-90 pups (not a fan). I thought they would be limited, but surprised. Rotary 6-Way Varitone adding widened palette has at least two positions I already like as a distinct original sound. One more WOW is the tailpiece - highest quality look and feel and so dynamic, looks and feels like a custom Gibson made tailpiece for Fender. Incredible! ALERT: I don't want to be the one that someone hates for a bad review so I must add that the high E-string on the bridge pup (pick up) is cutting out (volume) on stretching the note. Bridge pup seems has a misalignment as flawed design whereby the string does not pass center over the pole/screw adjust. I cannot see this as intentional, neither Epiphone quality control dumping chaotic failure designed pick ups to market - courts would have heard about from consumers. Having always set my own action, the lowest/loosest is fastest and highest tightest is slowest but undesirable. I mastered the king, the Les Paul Custom Black Beauty Triple Pick Up Gold which has 18 settings just for poles, 3 pick ups - with slope, height, tension, neck truss rod - all comes to 35 individual settings for the action on this beast. As a lead soloist first string from original heavy metal days I do know and can critically hear a pick up flaw or see one as I had me monster so pre-amp pumped you could LITERALLY hear a feather across the action. I want to move towards replacing with a dual option humbucker set with the single pole options switchable - maybe new model as Deluxe Plus! Yes!
