Overview

Woody, who passed away in August 2000, was an avid collector of vintage Epiphone basses, and this signature model combines the features that Woody found best for playing in his aggressive, rumbling style. It has a semi-hollow, single-cutaway, archtop body similar to that of Epiphone's Kat series but without f-holes. The neck is a 30" short scale for easier play. Mini-humbucking pickups in the neck and middle position deliver a warm tone. Gold hardware.

Features
  • Semi-hollow, single-cutaway, archtop body without f-holes
  • 30" short-scale neck
  • Mini-humbucking pickups in the neck and middle positions

many talk about expensive basses worth over 2000 or 3000 bucks. and sometines we are selfish to accept the fact that a bass worth 500 bucks liek this one may sound better or the same like our expensive ones. it is tiem to revise our point of view regarding "cheap" instruments. this bass is what it says it is: A BASS that delivers huge lows and mids and discreet highs. of course it addresses to rock abd blues fans. playability? yes the best, light weight the looks? yes a beauty sound ? rock blues and motown fans will love it it sounds like classic precisions and JB of the sixties only more aggressive and punchy. for me that i am a Mule fan Allen woody's fan and a rocker this bass is the perfect combination of collectible item, tribute item and a super instrument to play with GET ONE NOW and i mean it!!!

I ordered through GC.com. This bass was a huge disapointment. The laquer finish was thick on some spots, and thin on others. It also looks like the red body stain bled through to the cream binding, making it look sloppy, The dark fingerboard stain bled through to the lighter neck finish also. The binding itself was cut with something blunt, so it did not match up on the ends, leaving it raised off of the body. I tried playing it, to see if maybe it was an ugly guitar that played great, but no such luck. It needed a professional setup, as it would not hold tune for longer than 5 minutes, and intonation and neck were way off. I'm not sure if someone had a bad day at the shop, or if all of these are like this, but I have lost all respect for epiphone if this is how they let things leave the factory. These flaws were all easily visible to the naked eye from far away.

Comments about Epiphone Allen Woody Limited Edition Bass:

This may be the best sound on the market for less than $600. Fantastic playability, a nice full tone, and well made all the way around. Overall, this bass is easily as nice as anything else I own. Upon testing the sound in store, I actually had to look around to make sure I was hearing myself because I didn't expect this bass to sound as great as it does. It is worth noting that slap players will probably want to look elsewhere due to its general layout/build and it's serious low end but for pick and finger players, I don't think you can go wrong. The ONLY thing I didn't care for out of the box was the string height but the action is easily adjustable, so whatever. These guitars offer tremendous value

put on tape wound strings & now... it's a joy to own & play... pretty light weight (which is quite nice)... short scale neck makes getting around the fret board easily done...&, most importantly, it sounds deep & mellow & clean...
If I could change anything it'd be: to have A VOLUME, A TONE & A BLEND controls... it's a tough job to adjust the volume with out adjusting the tone, as it's set up...

physical limitations necessitated short scale. A bunch of research later: Epiphone's Allen Woody bass. Put tapewound on it & it's one fine bass guitar. Sound is great. Tone is great. Ease of playing is just a joy.

This is a nice change of Bass. I love the Fenders and the Gibbys, but this bass is great. I found it superior to the Hofners and Epi has great quality. this is a bass I wanted for years and thans to MF I have one.

I play at church mostly. I have arthritic fingers so the scale is perfect for my disability. I experienced a small amount of fret buss so I adjusted the bridge which is a normal set up procedure. I ordered a set of flat wound strings for it.

Comments about Epiphone Allen Woody Limited Edition Bass:

not normally a bass player I wanted a reliable instrument that didn't cost a fortune. I really picked the right guitar with this one. It played great right out of the box and unbelievably it was in tune. the first jam session with this guitar gave us a depth we were missing before. The tone is perfect and the action great and it was easy for me to play even tho I don't normally play bass. Epiphone does it again

Comments about Epiphone Allen Woody Limited Edition Bass:

Have been interested in this bass for quite awhile, and finally bought one. I like the way the neck feels and plays. The pickup configuration is different than any others I've played, which I think makes it different and unique than the old repeated p/j type basses. Mine was set up quite nicely upon purchase, maybe a tweak here and there. I love the gold hardware and the finish is awesome. The only thing I've found is that my forearm needs to get used to the body type, as I've always played basses with contour right there. Pretty minimal problem. I play mostly blues/rockish type stuff. It's great for that. I recommend checking this bass out.
