From Epiphone comes the beautiful entry-level acoustic-electric guitar, priced for anyone to afford. Dressed in a beautiful finish, and featuring appointments you'd often find on higher-end instruments, the Epiphone AJ-220SCE guitar sounds just as good as it looks. Built on advanced jumbo body design, the depth of the body and the width of the shoulders create a large sound chamber, presenting tone that's full, deep, and loud. The cutaway guitar body design provides comfort when accessing the upper-register frets on the rosewood fretboard.

The Epiphone AJ-220SCE guitar's mahogany back and sides paired with a solid Sitka spruce top brings out rich harmonics, lots of projection, and clarity in tone. A glued neck joint keeps the guitar's neck and body stable, without losing any subtleties in tone. The mahogany neck adds strength, as the wood is quite durable and will stand up to the elements. The acoustic-electric guitar's rosewood bridge and fretboard produces lasting sustain, in a deep appearance.

The SlimTaper D-shape neck and 12" radius add speed and comfort to your playing, while lessening player exhaustion. The Epiphone guitar's ebony fretboard, rosewood bridge, and bone nut produce some of the clearest tone possible, so you can hear your notes with crystal clarity.

At the heart of this Epiphone acoustic-electric guitar is the integrated electronics, letting you plug in and amplify quickly and painlessly. The Nanoflex pickup is capable of conveying all the harmonic and organic dimensions of the acoustic sound spectrum. Nanoflex pickups produce an open sound, conveying natural harmonic overtones. Shadow developed a unique technology that amplifies and shields directly at the pickup. This innovative technology keeps loss of sound at an absolute minimum and guarantees a signal that is completely free of noise. The Epiphone AJ-220SCE guitar's preamp includes master volume, high EQ, low EQ, phase reversal, chromatic tuner, and dynamics controls to dial in your ideal amplified guitar voice.

Dressed in a polyurethane finish and featuring such desirable appointments as sealed die-cast tuners and nickel hardware, you will love the look of this Epiphone guitar as much as its sound. Built under the expertise of Epiphone's master craftsmen, the AJ-220SCE acoustic-electric guitar will sound excellent for a very long time. And at this price, you can't go wrong.

I fell in love with this guitar the minute I laid eyes on it. I tested it out and it's perfect. The price is so affordable and it plays like a dream. I've owned this guitar for about a year now. Never gets out of tune, built in tuner which is very convienient and it sounds beautiful plugged into an amp. My most favorite guitar I've ever owned. I recommend this guitar to anyone, easy to play and can't beat the price. Not only does it play well, its so sleek and doesn't scratch easily. The sunburst is just fabulous. It's so affordable it's almost "too good to be true" but frankly it's just a great guitar at a great price. Couldn't be happier with Epiphone, I just think their a great brand for those who can't afford a Gibson.

I wanted a good acoustic guitar that I could trust so I went with Epiphone. I've always liked their electrics, but this acoustic has major issues. All of the acoustics I tried of the same model are Indonesian made. The problem I have is at the 5th fret and all the way to the 13th on the high e string it is the exact same dead note! I tried all the same ones they had in the store and same thing! but at different frets. I found one that was perfect and didn't do it so I got that one, now a few weeks later it is doing the same thing all the others were doing! I don't know what could be causing it. They were inspected and stamped by different inspectors on the back. This one is even worse now and I haven't done a thing to it. 8 notes on the high e string sound exactly the same and the g string has two also but at different frets. I'm really getting mad that Epiphone went with Indonesia cause this model in particular is a piece of junk. It's not just this one guitar, as I said all of them in the store brought in from the back room brand new with stickers and everything did it to. I'm really disappointed I have to make another trip there for the same reason again.

Great Guitar, but...

By Paul Buchholz

from Freehold, NJ

This guitar sounds great, is very playable, looks nice and is overall well built. As an acoustic guitar it is an excellent choice. The electronics just don't sound that good. Sorry but they don't. Otherwise it's one of my favorite guitars, and I can always use a mic (sounds killer with an SM57).

Pay attention and take your time

By Ray Reisinger

from Connersville, IN

I picked this guitar over Yamaha and Fender acoustics because I've alway liked Epiphone. It's embarrassing to admit I probably picked the worst guitar in the whole guitar center! I loved the looks, the electronics and most importantly the sound is unbelievable for this type of guitar. What I didn't catch, (face turns red), was that the neck had a dead spot on the 14th fret that I still can't get fixed and the frets seemed to be cut off with a dull hack saw and left totally undressed. Watch for this! However, I took care of the frets, put on some extra light daddario strings and aside from the one dead spot I absolutely love this guitar! I'm sure there are better ones out there than what I bought, so don't be afraid to spend $300 on this little beauty!! Just pay attention and take your time!! Oh, and check the tuning keys, they are always loose so when ya change the strings make sure ya tighten the nuts. Acoustically, this guitar is amazing. Plugged in ya can keep up with the big boys and the built-in chromatic tuner is a true blessing for beginners and professionals alike. Overall quality is excellent and you can't look at it without picking it up and playing till your 'fingers bleed'!

Top Split after a couple of months

By Louis Washington

I'm not real thrilled with this guitar. I was looking for an inexpensive Electric Acoustic. The top had split after only a couple of months.

Great value

By phillip Bowling

from Carlsbad California

Needed a slightly wider nut for finger picking, the AJ-220 has an 1 11/16 nut. Perfect for me. I like to play Mississippi John Hurt, Elizaeth Cotton, Norma Kaukauen like stuff. I went in thinking Higher end guitars, but after 2 hours of playing everything in the store, the 220 had the best playability for me. Plus this undefinable quality in sound and ease of fretboard and action, which I was having a hard time believing because of the cost. They had 2 in stock. The one in the box had a crack in the deck. The top of the guitar has thin strips of glued together wood, and one had cracked from the others. So I bought the floor model! I would strongly suggest you buy this directly from the store, but even if you do have issues with it GC is great about making you (me) happy. Go and play this guitar, you won't believe how good it sounds. I cart it around with me and don't worry that much about it cause it did'nt cost an arm and leg. Oh, and the pickup works great also... I have'nt been using it cause the guitar sounds so good by itself.

Takes a lickin', and keeps on pickin'...

By David Albert

from Kabul, Afghanistan

I have had this guitar for about three weeks now, and am very impressed with it. Being stationed in in a combat zone on the opposite side of the planet, I was a little leary of ordering online sight unseen (unheard?), and trusting fate to deliver the order intact, but figured I would take the chance. It took about ten days to arrive half way around the world by US Mail - not bad! When the packages arrived (guitar and case), the boxes looked a little rough, I was happy to see the guitar (and case) had survived intact. In fact, the guitar was still nearly in tune, and set up great. I had ordered extra strings, based upon all of the other reviews, but I think the stock strings are fine, especially with strings being sort of hard to aquire here. I've been playing everyday, and the electronics are espeially nice. The built in tuner is simple, and handy, and it came with batteries. Guitar stays in tune very well, despite the harsh conditions and climate where I am at. Very bright, pleasing sound. Bottom end pretty good, too. Finish is great - really pretty instrument. The only thing I would change about the experience would have been to have had someone put 2 and 2 together, and ship the guitar IN it's case in one double box, vs. 2 double boxes. However, both arrived fine - no blood no foul, this time. Just my 2 cents moving forward, though. Thanks for a great product.

There are better choises

By Daniel

from Vancouver WA

This guitar looks and sounds good... at least in the store. The tuner works very well and its easy to use. It has very low action and its easy to play. Fret board has a great soft feel. After a few days, because of the super low action is started to buzz a lot. And theres another review saying the same thing. I had it adjusted but it didnt sound the same anymore. With the same money you can get a Fender 140SCE or a Ibanez PF30SECE which have a even better sound. After two weeks I went and exchanged it for a Fender DG200SCE, a little more expensive but well worth it. Bottom line, the guitars feels great but I had a lot of open string buzz so I had to exchange it. There are other guitars in this price range that are better.

Better than a Gibson!

By Kevin Suwarsky

from Kalamazoo, Michigan

This guitar has it all. the looks, the beautiful crystal clear sounds, it has a nice rich equal treble and bass tone. the built in tuner works amazing. and the guitar really takes a while to go out of tune, ive left mine in the case before for a few days and it was in tune. i would tighten the screws on the tuning pegs it really helps your guitar stay in tune. I got this guitar for christmas. it is worth the money the neck, is nice and slick and you can play music and challenging chords easier, this guitar in my opinion is better than most gibsons that you will pick up in at GC. and if you get this guitar get the D'Addario EXP17's acoustic string the bronze phosphorus strings. they sound beautiful rich and amazing and last you a long time! this guitar has it all don't think twice about it. This is the GUITAR!!!!!
