This is definately my next guitar. I picked it up today while doing some guitar shopping and fell in love with it instantly. Has the perfect sound for the few genres of Rock i play and just plays incredibly. Sad thing is, i picked up a Gibson Explorer after, and for half the price, the Epi has the same quality. Must Have Guitar

If you can't buy a Gibson, buy this.

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I was never really a fan of Epiphone, I look back and wonder why. This guitar was really good out of the box, very playable, beautiful to look at. I had a few problems I had to deal with. As I said it was very playable out of the box but for me I had to set it up to my specs and it played even better, at least for me. I seriously encourage you to buy this if you are looking for an Explorer but can't afford a Gibson, I have played an actual Gibson Explorer and this one plays almost just as good. The main difference being the pickups and hardware, but I plan to change all of that out in time. I had had mine for 6 months now and as I expected the gold finish has started to wear off but it is not a big deal for me as I will be replacing it and I like the worn in look. The tuners on mine are Grovers and they are just awesome, very smooth and precise. The only thing I didn't like out of the box was the frets were a little rough, not a big deal. A couple passes with some 0000 steel wool or some fine sandpaper and they are fine now. No fret buzz at all. Like I said before I will sum this up by saying if you can't afford a Gibson Explorer, this is your best choice. Thanks Epiphone!

quality epiphone

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

the neck is the reason i bought this. so smooth. i played epiphone sg's and les pauls and this neck really appealed to me, its wide and appears to be ebony. SILKY. it sounds very similar to the 72 tele deluxe reissue i have (which has fender enforcers in it now) warm sounding/fat. guitar sounds fuller than an SG. body is big and clunky, and rather heavy but it wont leave my studio so it doesnt matter. if i was on the road with this or travelling through a lot of different rooms and up and down stairs...i would find it annoying. actually dinged it bringing it in the door. however, the balance is really nice for someone like me who plays sitting down. personally i do not find it neck heavy. pros: looks cool, classic/elegant. awesome, awesome neck. sounds lovely. warm and full. cons: heavy awkward

Great guitar, worth the investment.

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for two years now, so I feel I can safely give it a proper review. My guitar is a 2006 Ebony model, and it was bought as a factory second for a minor ding in the fin. The neck was set beautifully, and the guitar is very solid and well built. The gold hardware looks very nice on the ebony finish, but tends to oxidize rather quickly. I feel this adds a (great) vintage look to the guitar, but may turn off some players that prefer pristine looks at all times. The stock pickups sound alright, but they can always stand to be replaced. The frets are dressed nicely and evenly with no fret buzz at all, and the Grover tuners are very solid. Hardware aside, this is a great instrument that plays excellently. I walked in to my local store with the full intention of buying a Gibson Explorer, but walked out with the Epiphone as I felt the build quality was superior and far more consistent than it's Gibson sibling. The feel of this guitar is phenomenal, with it's neck BY FAR my favorite profile of my 10+ guitars. It has withstood countless gigs, with my only problem arising from the mounting sleeves of the stop bar. The sleeves started pulling out of the guitar, bt a little bit of superglue or toothpicks fixed the problem. I am a firm believer that with new pickups this guitar could easily compete with most of it's Gibson competitors on the market. It's solidly built, sounds and feels great, and plays like a dream. A highly recommended purchase.

Great guitar!

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar for my birthday, and it is amazing. It sounds great. Clean, it is clear and bright, and with distortion it sounds really thick. The neck pickup is nice and warm, and the bridge pickup is really bright. I've heard some people say that the neck pickup doesn't get enough distortion, but this simply isn't true. I've played gibson explorers, and the epiphone sounds just as good. The only problem i have is that the gold hardware wears off pretty quick, so the pickup covers, bridge, and stopbar turn silver after awhile. With the strap button nearest the neck where it is, there is neck dive. This can be fixed by moving it to the back of the guitar, close the the joint, which is what i did. Otherwise, it's great, I love it.

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar for my birthday and it was the greatest gift ever, it has an amazing tone and the feel of it is just astounding. I have a Gibson Les Paul and this is the only guitar I've played that could compete with it, I would recommend this guitar to anyone, not only is it great for playing, but its also great for keeping your wallet heavy, its cheaper then the Gibson variant and it plays just like it!
