This is definately my next guitar. I picked it up today while doing some guitar shopping and fell in love with it instantly. Has the perfect sound for the few genres of Rock i play and just plays incredibly. Sad thing is, i picked up a Gibson Explorer after, and for half the price, the Epi has the same quality. Must Have Guitar

Sweet!!

By Rob

from Ellington. CT

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

Ive had this guitar for a year, an I?m constantly falling in love and re-falling in love with the sound of it. Its got a great warm jazzy clean tone to it on the neck pick up..Switch it to the bridge and it?s a little brighter. I will never get rid of this guitar..EVER!!! However, the tone is so deep, that when you play clean or distorted on the low stings the deep sounds kind of get muddled..dont get me wrong, the deep sound is GREAT, but gets in the way sometime. This is why I am currently in the process of getting a Fender Tele, because it can do things the Explorer cannot, just as the Explorer does things the Tele cannot...Just getting a little more versitlity in my guitar arsenal. THIS IS THE GUITAR FOR HEAVY ROCKIN'. Nice for jazz too, with the really deep warm tone. I play it through a Randall rg100sc...Loud 1200 watter!!!

My main axe

By Bulletproof

from Perryville, Md

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

This guitar is awsome!! It replaced my Ibanez rg and schecter to become my main guitar. It was the only one I used on my band new record. I'm not particilar to painted necks but this one is smooth as silk to play. There are a few quality problems with the input jack nut coming loose and the pickguard wasn't cut properly but these are easy fixes and really didn't affect the sound. The price is really cheap for a set neck 2 humbucker guitar. I will be getting another for a backup guitar

Greatest guitar ever

By Ibanezplayer6

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

This guitar is just amazing, I love the sound of it. I plugged it into my crate and just started blasting away with it. I also love the gold pickups on it, the sound is just amazing. The cost of it is great also, not to expensive and still stays in shape well with a great metal and hard rock tone, but it also has a very clean sound, also a great tone if distorted aswell! This is probably one of the greatest guitars ever made!

Bad Neck

By revolverman92

from Kirkland, WA

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I like this guitar a lot. its like the gibson but cheaper. the main reason why i didn't give it a five is because the neck is not fast at all. its plastic, so the faster you go up and down the more it burns your palm.

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

This is by far one of the best guitars i've ever owned, and played through. The dual alnico humbuckers really compliment the design of the body with their great versatility and awesome sound. Both Metal lovers and soft rock/ blues players can enjoy this product, all at an affordable price!! Definitely worth every penny!

I went to my local guitar ...

By Sam

from IN.

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I went to my local guitar center the other day looking for a gibson explorer. I 've had the same guitar for a long time and would really like a new on, it just so happened that there was no way i could afford the gibson right now. So when i went to play the explorer i found that i liked the neck much better than the gibson and it played well to. Although the pickups seemed to be nice i'd put some emg's in there anyways. The guitar is amazing and it looks beautiful. The only difference i would make is that they would make one with a white finish and a gold pickgaurd. I think the white and gold would look amazing! Go out and buy this guitar it plays fantastically!!!!

kinda muddy

By GibsonGuy5150

from Manahawkin, NJ

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

My friend has this guitar and we compared it next to a gibson and well the sound coulndn't compare. We couldnt tell when we were playing it alone but side by side with a gibson well the pick ups are not hot enough it kind of gets muddy when u try and get a nice crunch and the neck is a bit harder to fret on the epiphone. Using the same amp and settings to get the closest comparison possible we could tell it is not as good as a Gibson. Honestly for the price this guitar should be better. The input jack always comes loose the neck is sticky and hard to play and the pups are muddy for an extra 80 dollars you can afford to buy a gibson SG or Flying V so people say its best for the price sorry no where near.

Good for practice/smallgigs/backup

By GuitarGuy

from Plantation, FL

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

This guitar does fairly well to please a beginner to an intermediate player. These are Korean-made and might not last for as long as a Gibson if you think it might. The two humbuckers it come with are decent but if you have the money to upgrade, go for it, i recommend DiMarzio. The tone is really good, but don't think it will be surprisingly outstanding. Sure you can shred on this if you want but i think it was built for rhythm. This guitar is heavy so playing for 1+ hours standing will be exausting if you don't have the strongest shoulders. Upgrading this guitar will help it tremendously, but with the money you spend doing so, you might as well save up for something better. But so far it hasnt let me down after a year, but i do plan on upgrading to something better. Like the title says, it is good for practice, small gigs, and backup in case something goes wrong with your main axe, which i hope it doesnt.

This is my next guitar...

By randommoments

from Tx

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

One of my friends went on and on about this guitar, and i didnt believe that it was all he said till i played it- now this is my next guitar. I plugged into a Roland Cube (it was already set up to play so...) and started playing stuff from Avenged Sevenfold, Guns N' Roses, Chiodos, and even some of my own stuff.. and people started to gather around, and ive only been playing for about 5 months. This is a pretty amazing guitar.

Great Guitar

By MidnightExplorer

from Upstate, NY

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I just put this guitar down to write this review! The Finish is great, this guitar looks really good. The only bad thing about it, is that everything shows up on black, but it isn't a big problem. The neck on the guitar feels great, you can speed up and down, it reminds me of my Fender Strat. The only problems I had with my guitar, was that the rod in the neck was a little off, and the frets needed to be filed down a bit. It's probably because epiphone didn't do a great job. My casino from epiphone had teh same problem. It isn't a huge mess up, I doubt all of the Explorer are like that. Other than those and it's perfect. The P/Ups sound good if you adjust them right. The Grover tuners make the guitar stay in tune for days! I'd give it a 8.7/10, I'd say buy it, it's worth it!

Wow. Absolutely incredible!

By Aussy

Comments about Epiphone 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar:

I finally got the money to buy this baby yesterday and I was amazed by how good it sounds! It has a fast neck and is very comfortable to play. The only bad thing I would say is it is pretty heavy weightwise. But other than that it is fantastic!
