Distinctive design and amazing sustain.

The Epiphone Thunderbird Pro-IV bass builds on the illustrious history of the Thunderbird bass. This distinctively shaped rock-and-roll bass combines traditional design elements with new technology at a price any bassist can afford.

Epiphone's Thunderbird Pro-V Bass features a 7-piece walnut/maple neck with through-body construction for amazing sustain and tone. It also hass Epiphone T-Pro bass humbucking pickups with custom active electronics and EQ to dial in the bass sound you seek.

It features Epiphone's SlimTaper design, which upholds a precise width-to-thickness ratio on the neck. This design provides added comfort and agility when racing through the frets, while not fatiguing your digits. Case sold separately.

Gave this bass to myself as a Christmas present. Great look, great sounds, fast neck. A few issues-a wire wasn't connected inside the bass and needed repair (I still get some pops and buzz on occasion), the battery for the active electronics goes pretty fast and the tuning pegs are pretty cheap. NOTE: the only bass case that will fit this guitar is the Epi Thunderbird case. Overall, good value for the money. This is a great complement to my Stingray and Geddy Lee. Love the long scale.

  • Decide For Yourself

As reviewed by Mik on 6/2/2011

I am very impressed with the Thunderbird Pro. It's big and heavy and not for everybody so I recommend trying one in store before you order online, but I for one couldn't be happier with the decision. The Pro Model is miles ahead of the standard IV. The neck-thru construction of the Pro is superior and I found it to be much better balanced. The Pro also comes with active pickups and controls for volume, high eq, low eq, and a blend. Some people don't like actives, but I think they sound amazing. This bass has amazing tones and gives you the ability to really dial in your sound. Another plus is the tapered neck. You can play FAST on this thing. For anyone worried about neck dive - the brilliant people at Epiphone finally realized that the problem could be solved by moving the strap button from the top shoulder to the back of the neck where it meets the body. I have no problem with neck dive even when my left hand is not supporting the neck. This is on the pro model only. Thunderbirds seem to get mixed reviews so it can be hard to go by them. I am very happy with mine, but the best advice is to get some first hand experience with one before you buy. Cheers.

  • Almost Perfect , But , Not Quite

As reviewed by CURTIS BROWN on 5/5/2012

I traded my EPI. T-Bird IV in on the T-Bird Pro IV (sunburst) a few days ago . The only thing I did not like about the T-Bird IV , were the cheap Passive Pickups . I was considering changing pickups , but , found it less expensive to buy a brand new guitar . The active pickups on this Bass , are night and day compared to the other T-Bird . Much more responsive and they just look better . The Bass I saw online , had a black border around the edge of the sunburst . My T-Bird came only with a darker brown border . At first , I was a little miffed about that , but , I actually think it looks even better like that . I have never owned an through body neck guitar before , so I didn't know what to expect . The neck is very comfortable and fast . The guitar came with the action high , but not unplayable . With a little tweaking to the Truss Rod and the intonation , with new strings , this guitar is ready to Rock . It will take me some time to get to know all the tones this guitar has . Believe me when I say , There are many , many different tones to this guitar . The only reason I did not give this guitar 5 stars , is , the finish on my guitar has a very minor flaw in one area . You can't see it when you look from a short distance , but , up close is a different story . It is minor , so , I can live with it . Very happy with my purchase . Would I reccomend it to others . Yes , yes , yes .
