A great lookinging limited edtion with a flamed maple top and screaming pickups.

Since it's introduction almost 20 years ago, The Special-II has met the needs of countless musicians with its combination of Les Paul features, great tone and affordability. The Special II Plus Top Limited Edition Electric Guitar Made with a flamed maple top, mahogany body, bolt-on mahogany neck, smooth 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, this baby is every bit as handsome as its uptown cousins.

Providing the sizzle and snarl that you can only get from humbuckers is a 650R (neck) and 700T (bridge) pickup combo. You'll be amazed how these U.S.A. designed pickups with their high-output magnets add more highs with increased definition and no muddiness. Slightly over-wound, the hotter 700T bridge pickup is smooth but can give you a little extra scream or growl when you need it while never losing its rich combination of enhanced lows and crystal clear highs.

  • Not Perfect But Still Awesome

As reviewed by Glenn Thomas on 4/18/2014

I travel a lot and wanted the cheapest guitar I could find (that was still playable) to take through airports in a padded bag so I could jam at the hotel all week. I found this amazingly bright sounding gem that beat out the other guitars I was looking at because it was $149.00 in a sale GC had running a few months ago and it played better than some that cost a lot more. I play it every day and still like it for many reasons. It's much lighter than my Gibson Les Paul Studio Deluxe (60's next), sounds great through my Yamaha THR-10C with a good range of tones for such a cheap guitar, and, like I just said, it's cheap. Cons (Title does say not perfect)... One of the tuning pegs was not mounted straight and it's kind of a pain to change strings because the string winder hits the head. Terrible fret buzz on fret 16. When I bend the string it goes away so I don't think that fret is level. Not sure if I can raise the action to get rid of it. I consider it my travel beater so not really crazy about it being perfect and will do a setup on it when I have time. Everything else is good. It comes in a variety of really tacky colors but I found a transparent blue one that actually looks pretty cool. I would highly recommend this based on the quality to price ratio. GC sells a little travel guitar that seemed like absolute junk and cost a few hundred more, and this fits fine in the overhead bin of an airplane. Just take your time checking it out and you can avoid the things I found, just have them rip open another box and try another one. Like I said, not perfect, but still worth 5 stars based on the sound I get out if it together with the price.

  • Great guitar!

As reviewed by Eric Ward on 2/3/2014

I still consider myself a beginner, and this is the first electric guitar I've ever purchased. I bought it to use with Rocksmith 2014 after the electronics on my Ibanez acoustic/electric quit working out of nowhere. I've got to say, this is a great beginner guitar (at least from what I can tell). It feels good, plays well, and looks amazing. The color of mine (transparent blue) is actually a little more teal/green than the picture, but it is still beautiful. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an inexpensive starter guitar that is still a good quality piece and won't let you down like a cheap knock-off brand.

  • sweet deal

Great sounds for an even greater price. Was going to get the std. Special II, but the Plus top with the flamed maple--outta sight. I am strictly a hobbyist and have never had an electric but would highly recommend for any young players who may be wanting a guitar for christmas. Being a kid myself (nearly 49 1/2!) I did my homework, and for the dollar$ you'll get great looks, and twin double humbuckers with a warm, rich tone.Fingerboard was quite friendly, smooth neck. Hooked up to Fender practice amp with super sounds/results. At $149,Very well worth it.
