Epiphone Sheraton II Electric Guitar (518240)
Availability:

Solidbody sustain and feedback resistance with hollowbody warmth.

The semi-hollow design of the Epiphone Sheraton II Electric Guitar uses a solid center block and hollow "wings" to give it the fat, mellow tone of a jazz guitar and the sustain of a solidbody. It has an arched maple top, back, and rim; laminated maple neck; gold-plated hardware; multiple bound body, neck, peghead, and f-holes; and vine inlay on peghead with mother-of-pearl and abalone fingerboard inlays. Includes two humbucker pickups and separate tone and volume controls. The LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece add more sustain and make string changing easier. Limited lifetime warranty.

Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.

  • This is the one for blues!!!!!!

As reviewed by ObsessedGuitarPlayer on 3/23/2010

I purchased the Epi Sheraton II a month ago from Guitar Center, Spokane (awesome service and help at that location worthy of the 3 hour drive). I usually wait much longer before writing a review, but this guitar deserves a great review already and every blues musician should know about it. After many hours of A/B testing in three states, I picked up the natural finish version and to my surprise, everything about it instantly stood out from all other guitar brands and models tested in various price ranges. It is the fastest non-satin finish neck, semi hollow dual humbucker guitar by far that I could find and the tone/sustain probably can't get much better. I suppose you could get a fatter sound with a change in pick-ups, but that is not as high on my list as some other tones. I wasn't crazy about the natural finish/flower head stock/gold hardware for my look, but I could not put it down. I have since read that maybe they save the "best wood" Sheratons for the natural finish models because of the aesthetic value. It has tones that blow my mind! It begs and sings for string bends and vibrato! Echo effect is outstanding. The lead humbucker is so bright, I can just about grab a clean Casino sound out of her. Yet, I can easily get some downright dirty blues sounds too (although the Lucille's lack of F holes seem to be dirtier). For the distortion fans out there (not my thing) and even if you are not, check out YouTube for a Sheraton demo treat that will blow your socks off. I play it daily for hours until my neck/shoulders tire out (it is heavy) and then I sit down and stare at it's beauty endlessly (yeah, I'm still in the honeymoon phase). It's too bad no one ever sees the back, for it is just salivatingly sexy! Finish and inlays are outstanding (I have to give credit to the Korean labor force). The neck binding/inlay/fret work is worth $100.00s alone. Warning to purists: the neck appears to be laminate with two thin strips of darker wood lengthwise. I'm no luthier, it is pretty, but this might be the specific construction that makes the Gibson prevail...albeit, for over double the money. Action is perfect and just a slight intonation adjustment on the B string was all she needed (probably because it is set up and inspected in the USA). The Grover tuners are the best I've owned. My beloved Strat has not been touched since this babe has entered my life. I would highly recommend a right angle cord plug to avoid any potential force at the jack (notorious issue for top exit hollow bodies). Any reviews talking about loose nuts at the jack, pick-up switch and tone knobs do not understand that this guitar is not just some slab of wood, and this is the way hollow bodies must be assembled and keeping them tight is part of the required maintenance like checking air pressure in your car tires. I do have two very minor beefs. The pick-up switch is mechanically noisy when practicing at low volumes. No electronic pops like the Dots, but just a heavy click that kind of ruins the mood during a song. Maybe it is just a little stiff since it is still new. Secondly, the nut is plastic and although in this price range it is not unusual and it stays in tune now that the strings are broken in, it is the only outwardly cheap thing on what appears to be a guitar that looks like thousands of dollars. That said, since I would have paid another couple hundred bucks for this guitar, I guess I can pay to have a bone nut made and installed. There is no question IMHO, that this is the best dual humbucker blues axe out there unless you are willing to pay well over a grand. I am so thankful to Epiphone for not making me spend the big bucks for a Gibson.

  • Brit Rock Dream Guitar!!!

As reviewed by Madferrit1979 on 8/31/2007

I am a big fan of of British rock band, esspecially Oasis, and of course The Beatles. If you want to get the sound theses kind of bands have this is the guitar for you!!!! Play it on a clean channel and you can crank out 60`s rock all day. Turn up the distortion, and channel your inner Noel Gallagher! Great guitar all around. I highly recomend it!!

  • sheraton II nat. finish

As reviewed by Jeff on 2/23/2011

I tried many semi and hollow body electrics on the same day. Prices ranged from 2500 dollars to 299 dollars. This guitar just fit. Sounds great, looks great. You can't buy a better guitar for the money. this is the perfect guitar for me. I can play any type of music from blues to metal plugged into may tube amp. It is also just beautiful to look at! Epiphone done right on this one for shure. Just put good strings on it and have it set up to your prefrence. The last things mentioned apply to any guitar.
