Solid, scrappy hard rock guitar of choice
I've had great luck with this solid, unpretentious beginner's guitar. This is just as, if not more reliable than the much more expensive "serious" guitars I've owned.
Everything about it feels great. It's a light but sturdy guitar you won't feel guilty about putting through a little punishment.
Unlike some other reviewers, mine has extraordinarily good tuners. it hardly ever goes flat or sharp, even after very heavy strumming. the input jack is chintzy, like all budget guitars, but replacing it runs you twenty to forty bucks at a reputable shop.
As far as electronics go, the pick-ups are fair. the open coils are nice and bright, but put out plenty of noise. The instrument's weakness is its lack of tonal versatility. It only does one sound well: hard rock. that's (partially) the result of having only one tone knob.
This is an excellent no-frills beginner's guitar, and a reliable mid-range one for an unbelievable value. F*@$ Squier!

Amazing Guitar
The Epiphone SG Special is the perfect beginner to intermediate guitar. This was the first guitar i got a few years back and still plays like the day i got it. It has a very fat tone with the two humbuckers. You can play basically any style of music with it. I gave it a 4 for features because it only has 1 volume and 1 tone knob. Other than that, this is a very solid guitar.

Smooth playing
I bought this guitar a couple of months ago to go along with my Epiphone Les Paul Special II. The fretting is smooth and it fits just right. You get all of the features of a Gibson SG at a low price. I have been playing guitar for only six months now but this guitar makes me feel a lot more comfortable. This guitar will prep me well for when I graduate (financially) to a Gibson.

Great guitar for money
Knowing I wont be able to spend much on a guitar, I didn't have high expectations for this guitar. But, after playing it for about a month, WOW!! The neck pickup sounds great, it has a real heavy sound. I think this guitar sounds best when played clean, with the neck pickup. It has a great acoustic tone. You dont get a pickguard with it, but they are easy to buy, and I have one on my SG.
Also think about switching the machine heads out, they feel cheap and insubstantial. But otherwise, great guitar!!!
