      Epiphone PR5-E Acoustic-Electric Guitar (102115581)
Availability:

A classic Epiphone acoustic-electric guitar.

For almost 20 years, the Epiphone PR-5E acoustic-electric guitar has taken the stage with countless musicians. Designed by Epiphone in 1990, its distinctive body shape was patterned after Epiphone's classic 335 guitars such as the Sheraton and Casino. But instead of a double-cutaway, it features a unique, single "Florentine" or sharp cutaway. The result is a large lower bout providing excellent lows and solid mid-range with easy access to the upper frets on the neck. The premium select spruce top uses a hand-scalloped, proprietary X-bracing pattern. Combined with the slightly arched mahogany back and mahogany sides, the PR-5E provides a sweet tone that projects well even when unplugged. Its Mahogany neck with SlimTaper profile, makes the PR-5E very easy and comfortable to play without fatigue. Legendary Grover machine heads for tuning accuracy and stability with premium gold hardware and split-diamond, pearloid fingerboard inlays make the PR-5E an extraordinary value.

Recently updated with Epiphone's eSonic preamp and Nanoflex pickup system, the PR-5E comes alive when plugged in. Made in cooperation with Shadow Germany, the eSonic preamp features a built-in, easy to use tuner. When engaged, the guitar's output is automatically muted—with no "popping" noise—making it a perfect choice for stage use. Other controls on this state-of-the-art preamp include master volume, bass, treble, EQ shape, low battery indicator and a phase switch to help eliminate unwanted feedback. The preamp uses two 2032 lithium watch batteries that are not only lightweight, but provide significantly longer life than heavy 9V batteries. Under the PR-5E's compensated saddle is Shadow's proprietary Nanoflex low-impedance pickup. Not a piezo, this unique flexible sensing material features integrated active electronics and picks up not only string vibration but also top and body vibrations as well for a truly acoustic tone without the harshness of piezos.

  • I love my PR5-e

As reviewed by Robin the Hammer on 3/3/2011

I have been a Gibson man all my life. For the last ten years I've used a J-185 with a Fishman. Acoustically, the PR5E can't compare, though it's a nice guitar. But plugged in, it kills! The sound is superior to acoust-electrics costing ten times as much. And the fretwork way up the neck is spot on, at least on mine. Terrific guitar for a few bucks, and it is GORGEOUS!

  • Xmas Gift that keeps giving

As reviewed by Johnny P on 1/19/2011

My wife got me this for Xmas and I wasn't sure since I was a "telecaster man", but as soon as I picked it up, it was love at first strum. The neck is very easy to play and the thin side is a big plus, but with the thin body, you don't get a lot of volume. When I plugged it into my Super Champ XD and turned to the acousitc setting, WOW, great sound, great tone!!! I put some Ernie Balls on it and it is my go to guitar. Great axe, great deal!!!

  • Awesome!!

As reviewed by Alex on 7/26/2011

I have been playing the guitar for over five years now and this is by far my most favored of the acoustics I have. I couldn't asked for a better low price guitar from any other makers. The feel of the guitar is absolutely amazing I could play this guitar all day with no trouble and it looks even better in person. Like I said before by far my most favorite of my guitars.
