Product Information

A classic Epiphone acoustic-electric guitar.

For almost 20 years, the Epiphone PR-5E acoustic-electric guitar has taken the stage with countless musicians. Designed by Epiphone in 1990, its distinctive body shape was patterned after Epiphone's classic 335 guitars such as the Sheraton and Casino. But instead of a double-cutaway, it features a unique, single "Florentine" or sharp cutaway. The result is a large lower bout providing excellent lows and solid mid-range with easy access to the upper frets on the neck. The premium select spruce top uses a hand-scalloped, proprietary X-bracing pattern. Combined with the slightly arched mahogany back and mahogany sides, the PR-5E provides a sweet tone that projects well even when unplugged. Its Mahogany neck with SlimTaper profile, makes the PR-5E very easy and comfortable to play without fatigue. Legendary Grover machine heads for tuning accuracy and stability with premium gold hardware and split-diamond, pearloid fingerboard inlays make the PR-5E an extraordinary value.

Recently updated with Epiphone's eSonic preamp and NanoFlex pickup system, the PR-5E comes alive when plugged in. Made in cooperation with Shadow Germany, the eSonic preamp features a built-in, easy to use tuner. When engaged, the guitar's output is automatically muted — with no "popping" noise — making it a perfect choice for stage use. Other controls on this state-of-the-art preamp include master volume, bass, treble, EQ shape, low battery indicator and a phase switch to help eliminate unwanted feedback. The preamp uses two 2032 lithium watch batteries that are not only lightweight, but provide significantly longer life than heavy 9V batteries. Under the PR-5E's compensated saddle is Shadow's proprietary NanoFlex low-impedance pickup. Not a piezo, this unique flexible sensing material features integrated active electronics and picks up not only string vibration but also top and body vibrations as well for a truly acoustic tone without the harshness of piezos.

This Guitar has KILLER looks and the sound to matc

I bought this guitar about a year ago and i can't put it down. I own the ebony model and it gets comments all the time by my friends and realatives. The sound is not real bassy but it is def. a GREAT sounding guitar. The phase switch on it is awesome. When i jack it into an amp i always have the phase switch on because it sounds so cool. If you want a gorgeous guitar with terrific, bright tone, for an incredible price, buy this guitar. You wont be disapointed.

Wonderful Sound

I owned the PR5-E and played it nonstop until the day I had to let it go. It was beatific, and and it produced a certain sound with the right strings that I have yet to find in another guitar. Anyone interested in a marvelously sounding acoustic-electric guitar at a reasonable price should seriously consider this one.

This is it!

I have owned my Epiphone PR5-E Acoustic Electric since 1994! It was the best $300 I ever spent. The tone is outstanding and the durability is unmatched! I put it through some rough treatment and it still sounds great! I am buying another one!!!

Epiphone PR5-E

This is one of the best guitars out there in this price range. The guitar had a great setup right out of the box. It is an extremely nicely built guitar. The guitar has a really nice looking cutaway. The split-diamond inlays look awesome too. It has an Epi-Six preamp with an EQ. It sounds great unplugged or plugged in. This is my main guitar i use for my gigs.

Epiphone Pr5 Acoustic-Electric

This guitar is a good example of bigger bang for less of your buck. Unplugged, it has a fairly thin sound, but is loud enough to play to a youth group meeting or small coffee house gig. Plugged in though, the shadow preamp system is a monster. I get a great plugged in sound on this guitar straight through the PA, or on my Behringer acoustic amp. On all the pr5 models I have played, the fret work has been lackluster above the 15th fret, so if you plan on doing high register soloing on this acoustic, bring a slide. In all, if you're on a budget and need a decent acoustic-electric, this is your guitar.
