I have an excellent Larrivee L-09/JCL commemorative re-issue that I love to play but do not like to travel with, I was looking for an affordable, smaller, well crafted, wide neck, all solid wood guitar with a good tone and minimal bling. This guitar surprised me out of the box with its craftsmanship, finish, tone, and price. The action was perfect for me right out of the box, lowish but not too low action, with lovely string spacing at the sound hole making fingerpicking easy, strumming not too hard. I actually quite like the no nonsense satin finish and the Rosewood back and sides over the Mahogany.
Great deal for the money in this price range on a solid wood 'OOO' sized acoustic. Go with the Rosewood over the Mahoghany back/sides, you'll get a deeper tone with it. The Epiphone Masterbuilt EF 500R has great projection, with bell-like clarity and balanced bass. They got it right on this one! Well made and worth the price.
