  • Smooth and fun to play

As reviewed by Randy on 2/11/2008

This guitar is all about what country players look for. I would compare the sound quality of this guitar to that of a high-class Martin. The price is right when you compare the two. This guitar is incredible enough to have the twang to play bluegrass, but the tone to play southern rock! There is no way you can go wrong with this guitar!

  • Epiphone Masterbilt 500M

As reviewed by wire&wood on 1/30/2009

This guitar is unreal. I have spent the last year looking for the "perfect" acoustic guitar. I have played Martins, Taylors, Breedloves, you name it. They were all fantastic instruments, but they were missing that special something. I knew that Epiphone made high quality guitars, having owned and played them over the years, but I was not prepared for the 500M. Right out of the box it was almost in tune, and the action was perfect. No neck adjustments, no need to file the bridge or nut. Just right. The neck has that soft V-shape that fills your hand comfortably, and the fretboard has that extra real estate so us fingerpickers have some room to dig in. The top looks like it has aging toner and is beautifully grained. The binding is seamless, and the back and sides are very nice. It has a set of vintage style Grover tuners that add a nice touch. It also has a drop-in humidifier, that is suspended from the strings into the soundhole. This is an example of the attention to detail that I have not yet seen in other guitar makers. How does it sound? Even better. Tight bass, clear trebles, no muddiness. I was delighted. Then I put it in DADGAD and it just sang like a bird. This guitar is a keeper at twice the price. I wish I could give it 10 stars. Bravo, Epiphone. I may never go back to the nylon string again!!

  • Nylon to Steel

As reviewed by Carl R. Moore on 8/6/2008

I have been trying to learn and build up my fingers on an Alvarez MC90 nylon using finger style playing. But wanted the steel string sound. With the wider fretboard of the EF-500M it was a easy switch over. The guitar is beautiful and sounds wonderful. It is built in China and I was worried, but it turns out it is inspected, strung and the action is set up it the U.S.A. The strings are right at that frets and it's a piece of cake to finger and I can't make it buzz and I'm a total begginer. I think it is a guitar worth more then the price they are charging for it. But I'm a rookie, and probably haven't played more exepensive guitars but it doesn't buzz and it doesn't hurt my fingers. Oh ya it comes with Grover Tuners too they don't mention in the description.
