The DR500M Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar has a traditional dreadnought shape crafted with solid mahogany back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top for great warm tone.

With the Masterbilt DR-500M Epiphone revives the prestige of its 1930s guitars. This flat-top guitar features solid wood construction and a distinctive 1930s-style "offset notch" peghead shape with historic Epiphone script logo and mother-of-pearl "stickpin" inlay.

The DR-500M is the quintessential flat-top guitar and has other features that include quality vintage-style Grover Sta-Tite 16:1 ratio machine heads; bone nut and saddle; imitation tortoise pickguard; nickel hardware; and a bound body, neck, and headstock.

  • for the $, a winner

    ordered one based on store demos which were a little too beat up for me to take. just cutting to the chase... Pros: 1) playability (one of the cheaper acoustics w/ truss rod for adjustable action, and the guitars are well set up in the USA before shipment--all 3 Masterbilts i picked up had great playability). easy access & articulation thru 14th fret. (i'm a picker, so would deflect ?s for fingerpickers) 2) tone. on 5 star basis, bass is 3 star, mids 4, treble 4. pretty sure some string changes will address this (and could make it too bright, but need to experiment) 3) composure. guitar doesn't change tone or bottom out when you hit it hard (unlike cutaway models, which seemed to break up when hitting them hard) 4) comfort. neck isn't too thick nor is body...easy to play for a while (unlike the jumbo series) Cons 1) build quality: made in china, very light (ie drop it and it could be toast) 2) resale value (see made in CHN) 3) projection: while it has good composure, it doesn't get LOUD when you hit it hard...nothing like a good guitar will (i picked up a Martin 61 Dread and it had a pulse it was so alive, in total contrast to the DR500M which never wanted to come alive). 4) bass (per above) that said, for the $$, hard to beat. comparing it to MIM Martins and other < $800 guitars, preferred this one.

  • Nice guitar

    I personally really love this guitar because of the fact that it's tone is so baritone and smooth. The guitar is quite big so for people who aren't that large, this guitar is not recommended (In my opinion). This would be the perfect guitar for a romantic song

  • Great guitar

    its a beautiful sounding guitar. The action needs a little work but its not a big deal and i would suggest getting lighter gauge strings on it. But it sounds great and has really warm tone. It is a really solid feelings and sounding guitar bc of the all solid wood. and with new strings and a little adjustment to the action it is really easy and nice to play. I would recommend this guitar to anyone. Its amazing for the price to get an all solid wood instrument.
