Epiphone Limited Edition Wildkat Black Royale Electric Guitar (107776262)

A comfortable and vintage-style guitar with upgraded electronics and hardware.

The Epiphone Wildkat is an Epiphone original. This smaller-body, semi-hollow guitar has great vintage sound and is remarkably comfortable to play! Now the Wildkat is new again. The stunning Limited Edition Wildkat Black Royale Electric Guitar has been outfitted with a black pearl finish, silver sparkle binding, and nickel hardware to make a guitar totally unlike anything Epiphone has offered before.

Not Like Other Archtops
Epiphone is a leader in archtop design and has been since the 1930's . An early pioneer in archtops even before they were electrified, Epiphone was never afraid to do something out of the ordinary. With no notable changes in archtop design by anybody in decades, Epiphone took the archtop and practically married it to a solid body guitar. And with a sharp new look, the Wildkat Royale now takes its place among all-time great designs.

Epiphone Innovation
The Wildkat Royale’s innovative design starts with a solid piece of warm, sustain-rich mahogany that is computer-routed to create an acoustic guitar-like body except with a “center block” area like an ES-335. The body is then covered with a beautiful black pearl finish with silver sparkle binding and nickel hardware to create a semi-hollowbody masterpiece. The Wildkat Royale’s mahogany body is matched with a hand-fitted, glued-in solid mahogany neck for maximum tone and sustain. It features a rosewood fingerboard and an authentic gold B70 licensed Bigsby® vibrato for even more sonic versatility. The vintage voice of this ‘Kat comes from a pair of Epiphone "dog ear" P- 90 Classic pickups specifically designed by Epiphone.

Other appointments include the historic metal Epiphone name “badge” on the headstock as well as a unique control configuration of 1-bridge volume, 1-neck volume, 1-master tone and 1-master volume. These controls are powered by Epiphone’s full-size 1” 500K potentiometers and matched with Epiphone’s superior all-metal toggle switch and heavy-duty output jack.

Epiphone Hardware
The Wildkat Royale also features premium 16:1 Grover® machine heads for superior tuning stability. All of this great design comes together with fabulous vintage semi-hollow tone and great sustain plus, being slightly larger than a Les Paul and smaller than an ES-335 size, it's lightweight and really comfortable to play!

I've been playing for 51 years - classic rock (now and when it was new!),country, old classic standards, all the way from super clean to 'down with the walls'! I've owned and played a Gibson ES-330, '65 Firebird, '70's Les Paul Custom,Guild Starfire, Custom Guild solid bodies, and currently have a less paul, an SG and 10 Stratocasters. What's the point? The WILDKAT BEATS THEM ALL! They don't tell you that the sound block only extends from the lower bout to the back of the bridge pickup, to support the bridge and Bigsby - the rest is FULL HOLLOW BODY! It's not too big, not too small and all controls are first rate, not cheapo. The P-90s are double hot-wax dipped and I can play right in front of the amp and I get no feedback. You want Strat sounds, Tele sounds, Les Paul sounds, ES-335 sounds, mellow, bell-like, sweet jazz tones, this is your guitar! It is also perfectly built and first class all the way. This axe plays like a dream, real Bigsby, Tunomatic bridge with ver wide support screws that will never bend unde string brake-angle stress. I never thought I'd ever own a 'perfect guitar', but, in my opinion, I do and intend to buy more. I have the white / gold Royale - BEAUTIFUL! I hope Epiphone decides to make a sunburst model and many more variations, like with humbuckers and more finish choices. I don't think Epiphone - and most of us 'axemen' are aware of what a great guitar this is. This could be their top guitar platform if they wish to. I'm hoping, Epiphone! I love this guitar! • It was great at first

As reviewed by Mike on 7/21/2014

I loved it at first but after a while, things started falling apart and the wiring, I noticed, is horrible. Great for the looks, not for the play. Bigsby is fine but not great, tuners are good, input jack is crap, pots are unreliable, bridge rattles and is annoying to fix.

  • Beautiful, but bad pups & Bridge

As reviewed by Steve Bratton on 12/5/2012

I own 32 guitars & this is one of the prettiest in my collection. I play my guitars and looked forward to performing with this instrument. Unfortunately, it sounds like crap. I don't know what 'upgraded' electronics' Epiphone used, but the pick-ups on this thing are aweful. If you play metal & use heavy distortion, it might work. My band is rock & blues. I expected a much brighter tone with bite when needed. The muddiest sounding guitar I've ever picked up, with the exception of the Peavey Void I bought on a whim. GFS P-90s are on order. The other major deficit is the bridge. The saddles are sharp & chincy. One pass at the Bigsby and it's out of tune. Wilkinson roller bridge on order. Otherwise, the fit & finish is amazing. Neck is very nice. It's the only guitar I've ever compulsively purchased because of the looks. Epiphone: Raise the price $100, put decent pups & bridge on this thing, and sell a classy guitar...not something you have to replace components on right out of the box. Disappointing.
