  • Incredible bang for the buck!

As reviewed by Joseph on 9/15/2014

Bought this little beauty on a whim. I had a 15 year old Yamaha beater I lost due to water damage. This sent me on a search for a relatively cheap replacement (based on what the insurance would cover). I don't remember how I came across the Caballero, but I'm sure glad I did. I should say that I'm a longtime Taylor guy. My other two acoustics right now are a Taylor 320 dreadnought and a GS Mini. Truth be told, the only reason I bought this guitar in the first place is that the insurance would cover it. But I have to say, it may have become my favorite instrument. I ordered this from the website and was nervous since it was my first time doing so with a guitar, but I was impressed with the setup out of the box. Nothing really needed to be adjusted and it was even darn near in tune. The built - in tuner made it easy to get it the rest of the way there. Now, the only negative I can say is that I found the stock strings atrocious. I know you shouldn't expect much in that regard anyway, but they were nearly unplayable. I put a set of Elixir Custom Lights on and it brought this baby to life. It feels great, sounds great, and looks great. I ordered it in ebony, and one nice touch you can't really see in the pics is that even the ebony version has tortoiseshell binding. It looks great in person. I haven't had a chance to use the on board pickup much, but from the little I have, it seems just fine. Overall, this guitar is a great bang for the buck, and a nice addition to any collection.

  • Pretty darn nice!..( wanted to say "pretty da*n nice..but...you know..)

As reviewed by STEPHEN on 6/30/2014

Just recieved my Mahog. Caballero today 6/30/14. And I have to say, very nice! I was really surprised. I thought for the price, it would be ok, but this baby is really cool! The finish is very well done, it shows the besuty of the wood, and the binding. The sound quality is very good. Nice action, string heighth is a little bit high for me, but measures exactly what the manual says it should be. No biggie, I'll have my guitar expert lower it to my liking. The neck is straight, fingerboard well made. I haven't yet plugged her into my amp, but I'm sure it will be fine. The size is really sweet, access to the strings perfect. And for the cost? Let's see you find a better deal! Tuners are nice and tight, all in all, you won't find a better deal on a new guitar in any retail store. I bought a very nice gigbag for her. I have an extra hardshell at home, which I'll use if I take her traveling. I would suggest you buy new strings, 10's will do. Guitar Center always has good deals on strings, so, pick up a pack or three. I've played all my different styles of music on her, and she performs like a champ! Had to pre order mine, and you may have to do the same, as this is a limited edition. So, go, buy, ENJOY!

  • Excellent Guitar at a Fair Price

As reviewed by Joseph P on 3/10/2015

First off let me say that I am a beginner. I decided on this one because of its history and I was told it had a smaller body and was a good piece for playing 60s and 70s sounds. I tried purchasing it at a store but it was only available online. As a beginner I was skeptical about buying a guitar with out playing it first. I finally decided to pull the trigger and it wasn't available in the wood tone so I picked Ebony. That's all that was available at that time since it was a limited run of guitars. What a great piece, very easy to handle right out of the box~! In the 3 months I have owned it I am totally impressed with it! A few weeks into playing it a guy that was helping me learn turned me on to his favorite strings in Phosphorous and it really took the sound to another level as I have read from some other reviews. I go into the GC store a lot to try out the gibsons and epiphones. Do not hesitate to pick up this limited edition guitar, it has way more bang for the buck then any of the others I have tested over the last few months. I can not say enough about this one!
