  • The Ears Say It All

I have never heard a guitar that sounded this good, especially in the price range. I had a Gibson LP and quite frankly, this one kicks its tail. It has so much output that my amp nearly blew me away when I turned it on the first time. These are, dollar for dollar, the best guitars on the market. Don't let the name at the headstock discourage you. This is a Les Paul that Les would be proud of.

  • Incredible deal!!!

As reviewed by Bobby Thompson on 11/14/2010

I have been playing guitar since 1973, professionally for 15 of those years. I went into the Guitar Center in Atlanta a few months back with a pocket full of cash and a few trade-in items with the intention of buying another Gibson Les Paul. I set up camp with a nice Mesa Boogie amp and tried pretty much every Gibson Les Paul they had. After narrowing down the field to 3, I spotted the Epiphone Black Beauty hanging on another rack and asked the salesman to let me give it a try just for the hell of it. I plugged in and this thing just blew me away! I'm no rookie, but this guitar absolutely smoked the Gibsons I tried. It plays even better than my old favorite, a '77 Gibson Les Paul Custom that I bought new way back when. Anone that tries to tell you that the tone of a Gibson LP is better than an Epi is full of crap!!! And I definitely like the contour of the neck better. Sure, the Gibsons have a bit nicer binding, but $2,000+ nicer?!?!? Homie don't think so!!! For the price, there is not a nicer professional-grade guitar to be found in this universe. I was initially put off by the Epiphone name (they built absolute JUNK back in the early 80's!) but after playing my BB for a month or so, I'm sold. Epi is now making instruments that are every bit as good as their Gibson counterparts. If you don't believe me just go to GC and try them out side-by-side. Perhaps the finish MIGHT be a bit nicer on some Gibsons, but you are paying the ridiculous price primarily for the name on the headstock. I don't know, maybe I just got lucky and got a particularly outstanding specimen. But I know from now on I will look at Epi's BEFORE I lay out thousands for the same guitar with a Gibson label!!! No knock on Gibson's --- I love 'em! But this is a MUCH better value, especially if you do more than just studio work. But don't listen to me, go and try one out for yourself. I guarantee you will be impressed!!!

  • Top of the Line.

As reviewed by Stephen on 12/23/2010

This guitar is worth the money. Everything is great except that even though the third pick up looks really cool you have to get used to picking in certain areas so you don't hit the pick ups. You should also get new strings, the one's thatr come with it wear out very quickly.
