  I just recently purchased this guitar. It is built well for the money. I got the hardshell case which is very nice. The finish is very nice. I wish the neck were a little slimmer(hence the term "slim taper") but after I set it up and lower the action,it should be fine. I am going to change the nut to bone for better sound. And I will change out the strings to elixers or d'adario's. Big fan of the coated strings. The controls for the pickup system are a cool touch hidden in the sound hole. All said, it sounds good for the money and being a BEATLES fan, it looks great next to my epi casino. I rate it a good Purchase.

  I bought one for under $400 on a special discount day. Mine is sunburst and was set up almost perfect, but the bass E and A needed to have their nut slots lowered just a bit. The 12th fret gap was dead on at 3/32 under the bass E and 1/16 under the teble E. Finished well in poly; the burst was not real impressive, but the TONE is impressive. I mean the guitar sounds quite good acoustically. No; it's not a Taylor 414 or a D210, but it's also under $400 with a good pickup! I have owned a lot of guitars over the years (like probably 70-100) in classical, electric solids, semi hollows, acoustics and A/E from the $350 up to $3,000 range. This 1964 Texan is a terrific value and sounds good enough for a working pro. It is at least as good acoustically as amped and the pickup is under-saddle, so you do have a little 'quack' to deal with. But it is one of the best pickup systems of that type I have heard.

  I grew up hearing my late father write songs, with his 65 texan. The guitar he had of to his passing. My ma now has it, as a link to my dad. So it was a no brainer for me to want one myself,as a kind of memory to leave my son. I received the first one this past week. Wouldn't you know it, damaged. But the guys at gc came through and next dayed aired one for my sons birthday party. The next one was fine. Thanks guys! Anyway this guitar is a great value. The finish is totally above average. The binding is actually flawless. The frets are nice and sooth and flat. Change the strings to some quality lights. You will need to install a strap button on the neck. Also the composite, input jack/rear strap button is really tough to get a strap over.Also check to make sure jack is tight to guitar. A 16mm open-end we do it. Be gentle. Tuning hardware seems more than sufficient,seem nice and tight. Had to adjust the neck just a touch, but if your not sure there are instructions with the guitar. I've heard all kinds of bad things about the pickup system. I realize eveyone's ear is a little different, but it sounds fine to me. Remember 0 is a the way to the right. Do yourself a favor, try it you will be impressed. I have played my dads for years, sure it sounds more mellow, its aged. No the guitar is not perfect in every way, but it's close,oh sooooo close
