A country/rock classic plugs in.

The Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric guitar brings the legendary country/rock "Hummingbird" into the 21st century with the new Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system.

First introduced in 1960, the square shouldered Hummingbird quickly became a classic thanks to Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, who used a Hummingbird for rhythm on early Stones hits like "Satisfaction," "Play With Fire," and "Under My Thumb." There are also many classic photographs of Keith using a Hummingbird on sessions for Exile on Main Street, Goat's Head Soup, and Sticky Fingers. Today, the Hummingbird is still a go-to acoustic for rockers like Noel Gallagher, Sheryl Crow, and Kid Rock when they need a rhythm guitar with smooth action and superb "woody" tone that's full of character.

On its own, the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric can drive an all-acoustic band or be front and center at a picking party with its sweet, balanced tone. Now with the Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system, The Hummingbird PRO can plug-in and hold its own on any size stage.

Solid Spruce Tonewood
The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric features a solid spruce top. Spruce is a rich and complex tonewood that begins to breathe and improve with age. The more you play, the better it sounds! The body and neck are made from select mahogany. The Hummingbird PRO neck has a classic SlimTaper D profile and features a 24.75" scale and is attached to the body with a glued-in dovetail joint. The rosewood fingerboard has pearloid parallelogram inlays, 20 medium frets, a 12" radius, and a 1.68" nut. There is single ply white binding on the fingerboard and 5-ply white & black binding on the body top while the back of the body has single ply white binding. The Hummingbird PRO has the classic sloped dovewing headstock has the "Epiphone" logo in white.

The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric's reverse belly rosewood bridge has a compensated saddle for smooth action and intonation. The Shadow NanoFlex pickup system is under the saddle and the classic Hummingbird/flower tortoise shell style pickguard is easy to spot on stage or across a room.

Shadow Pickup System
Epiphone and Shadow Germany have worked together for over a decade at perfecting ways to amplify an acoustic guitar on stage. The Hummingbird PRO is just one of many Epiphone guitars that feature a cutting edge pickup system that can handle any size gig and still produce an "acoustic" sound. The Hummingbird PRO's controls for the Shadow ePerformer Preamp are on the upper bout and include controls for Master Volume, Treble and Bass EQ, Mute, and a Dynamics control adjusted via a frequency curve. There is also a low batter indicator. The preamp is powered by two 2032 batteries. The output jack and strap locks are nickel and the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric is strung at the Epiphone factory with time-tested D'Addario Phosphor (12-53) strings.

  • Epiphone Hummingbird Pro

As reviewed by Steve Stewart on 6/3/2013

Received my hummingbird last week and have to say I was impressed with the overall workmanship of this guitar. The finish is flawless and the clear coat over the cherry burst finish looks inches deep. Now for the important stuff, came out of the box with only a couple of strings that needed tuned. The action is low and the guitar is easy to play. I'm not in love with the strings from the factory but they are fine for now, the sound is great. Unplugged it has a rich tone and carries very well, plugged up to my Crate amp you can really make this bird sing. Lots of different sounds all rich and bell clear. To compare it to a Gibson would be unfair but if you have a chance to play one I think you will find it can carry a tune with the best ones out there. Epiphone has hit another homerun in my opinion!

  • Awesome Guitar....Perfect for the price range.

As reviewed by Kwame Pok6 on 8/1/2013

Hummingbird Pro is an awesome guitar. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her...she is stunning and she sound incredibly great. I'm a beginner when it comes to guitar but I did an extensive research before buying it and I saw a youtube video where they compare the Gibson Hummingbird Pro with the Epiphone Hummingbird Pro and you can hardly tell the difference but the difference in price is like $2000. In fact that was the deciding factor for me. So i can guranteed you'll definetely not regret getting it. Some complain about the strings not being great...well just replaced them with your fav string and you're good.

  • Impressive Guitar

As reviewed by Carl Strickland on 4/23/2014

I received my Epi Hummingbird a couple weeks ago and have been very pleased with it. The ship packaging was very well packed.. no scuffs, scratch, or ding anywhere on it. She was ready to go right out of the box... little E had to be tuned a bit. It played great.. The tone, action and feel was as good as any high dollar martin, washburn, or gibson I'd played. I used it in a acoustic show and plugged thru the mixer, the sound was awesome... the electronics worked incredible. If you do any distortions,, stay with your Tele or strat.. she don't sound bad distorted but IMHO she shines better clean. Buck for buck you can't go wrong with this beauty!!
