Epiphone Goth Thunderbird IV Bass (102459658)
Availability:

An old-school shape updated with an ominous, modern vibe.

The Epiphone Goth Thunderbird IV Bass guitar has great looks, action and tone. Classic Thunderbird lines are executed with a mahogany body and 34"-scale hard maple neck with a rosewood fretboard and Gothic inlay at the 12th fret. The pickguard is dressed up with a Celtic cross while the black-on-black hardware and satin black finish give it a decidedly dark demeanor. Two Thunderbird Plus pickups provide appropriate growl.

  • Sabbath Looks, Sabbath Tone

As reviewed by TurpentineRose1 on 5/25/2007

When I initially saw this model in catalogues and such, I thought it was a bit much. However, when I called up my local GC looking for a Thunderbird, it was all they had in stock. I went up with a friend, and I had to say, it looked amazing in person. The way the satin finish contrasts with the glossy pickguard is a real plus, and all the black chrome hardware really stands out when one is actually in the presence of this instrument. I also love the celtic cross on the guard, it really gives it a great metal feel, and makes it an instant plus for any celtic group, such as the one I'm in (though I'm the guitarist, but the bassist begged to try it out anyway and loves it!) I'd heard reviews that it was bad for jazz bass, but from what I've witnessed in real life, it's great for anything. The tone is rich, deep, round, and full. It looks and sounds like something Geezer Butler would have loved.

  • amazing bass!!!

As reviewed by Evan on 4/27/2011

I bought this bass as my first one. of course i thought it was amazing because it was my own. as i started to learn stuff with it and eventually join a few bands, i quickly learned what this bad boy can do! its fun to try some slap on, sounds great with any effects, i run it through my guitar pedals too, and i have the fender rumble 150 so i shake my whole house playing Metallica and Megadeth songs, or even some of my own tunes. Very affordable for what this monster can do! the only thing i would change is to have it as a neck thru. maybe i will build another t-bird as a neck thru...maybe...

  • GREAT GUITAR!!!

As reviewed by Corbin C. on 7/3/2009

I just bought this guitar today and it sounds really amazing(even thouht in was a floor model). I bought it at 12:00, now its 10:30 and I havent put it down. This bass is perfect no matter what your sound is, like rock, blues, metal, funk, scremo and everything in between. It is also good in however you want to play, like finger plucking, slap bassin', or picking. This is good for all of that. The placement of the pickups are interesting. Theres 2 and they're moved back so in the front towards the neck you have a space to slap bass. On top of both pickups they're cut away so your thumb could rest on them. Overall this is a very good guitar so if you get the chance pick it up on your way home.
