  • SWEET AXE!

As reviewed by neemz on 1/19/2011

ok ive had this guitar guitar for about 8 months now, and its great! Beautiful flat black finish, grover tuners, very smooth neck, and with the set neck, its actually really good for reaching the higher frets. The guitar is very light, personally i don't prefer light guitars, but i know alot of you guys out there do. The guitar was set up nice, but every one has their own preferences, I set my action higher. There was some problems with buzzing, but this was greatly decreased over time, and some adjustments. Ok so the standard pick ups on here arent too bad, they arent very tight sounding for metal, and higher gain settings, and buzz a crap load. There is a killswitch that is installed which was a cool feature as well. My guitar did not have very good wiring thus leaving to some pick up problems. Anyway, as most people do with this guitar, I switched to Emg pick ups 85x and 60x(which i also highly recommend). After that the guitar sounded incredible, and also became much more versatile in terms of tone. Flash forward 8 months after purchase, the guitar is broken in, minimal fret buzz, pick ups sound better, and stays in tune ok, but not perfect. This guitar is a steal for the price, you will not regret buying this, just keep in mind about the extra money that will go towards the pick ups, as you may want to change them.

  • Great guitar, a few flaws.

As reviewed by Connor M on 8/9/2011

I have owned this guitar for 20 months now and it is still my favorite. Because the guitar finish is flat and not glossy, your thumb will never get caught in one place on the back of the neck. First off, you will want to raise the bridge a little bit because there is buzzing on the lower frets, or just get a slightly higher nut. If you want to play metal, be sure to raise the pick-ups a bit, it will help with getting that distorted sound. The playability on the higher frets is a bit messy, but I believe that may just be because I have raised the bridge so much (I use extremely thick strings). You really have to press down and not let up at all to keep the note going. While standing, the guitar neck will tip downward if you aren't holding it up. Get used to holding it up, and it will be fine. Also, you may want to invest in some strap-locks or get a bigger screw for the top strap part, as the guitar is a bit on the heavy side and the strap will come off within a few months, maybe weeks, of playing while standing. The sound is beautiful for every type of music, it looks fantastic, and it feels nice to play.

  • Awesome, but nothing's perfect

As reviewed by Ryan A. on 4/12/2011

I picked up this beast a few weeks ago, and I've never been happier with any decision. First of all, the guitar looks really awesome, and the lack of inlays, while I'd prefer there be inlays, really enhances the dark look. One thing I have to point out, however, is that the picture shows tulip machine heads. Mine has kidney machine heads. The tuners hold their tune really well and are pretty precise. My dad had played it a few times over the course of 2 weeks, and when I came back, it was still in tune. The satin finish is just magical. I don't like finishes that rub against your thumb because I tend to go up and down the fingerboard A LOT, so the smooth finish really helps. There is some fret buzz, but it is so minimal, that I didn't notice it until about a week later. The pickups were set up perfectly. They're Alnico II Classics. Distorted, they're some mean pickups, but they're noisy. Cleans sound very pure, especially when the toggle switch is at the middle position. One problem I have experienced is that the Master Tone Knob has become very wobbly. The other two knobs are very secure, on the other hand. The killswitch is good for making your guitar "stutter", and I play around with it sometimes. For the money, this guitar is actually really good.
