  • Epiphone Emperor hardshell case

As reviewed by Robert Roth on 10/19/2011

Great case for the money. What the internet descriptions don't tell you is that it will fit the Epiphone ES-175 like a glove. In fact the ES-175 is usually pictured in this case. I like the styling of this case better than the Epiphone case that is designed for the ES-175 (which GC doesn't stock). Don't know why Epiphone came up with a separate case for the ES-175, when the Emperor case fits it perfectly and the price is the same. GC stocks the Emperor case.

  • Epi Emperor vs TKL AK85 Artcore case for archtop guitar

As reviewed by Paul on 5/24/2011

Epi Emperor vs TKL AK85 Artcore case for archtop guitar Both cases fit my GODIN 5th Ave Kingpin archtop guitar. The size differences are negligible, within 1/2 inch of each other. The TKL is about 1/2" to 3/4" inch deeper, mainly because the Epi has a lot more padding. They both have a gray plush material for cushioning so that is a toss up, but the Epi has more foam underneath and is a tight fit until it breaks in. They both have a not too sturdy looking handle fastening method, but I suppose that is the Chinese standard so we are stuck with it. The latches on both seem adequate, but the Epi has four, while the TKL only has three latches. Both have metal bumper-buttons on the end and bottom. The Epi buttons are a bit more classy looking. The Epiphone Emperor case is a bit lighter, has an actual arched-top to the case, has a smooth finish on the covering material, has a spiffy strip of black piping around the bottom edge, has a more comfortable handle, and has a lot more padding than the TKL. I have one TKL case from 5 years back and the handles used to be very comfy with a double round strap that was cushy. The new TKL handles will cut your hand with sharp areas at both ends. The TKL has a pebble grain cover material. TKL has a slightly larger accessory box inside, and the lid is recessed down. On the Epi, the box lid is right up against the guitar neck. Maybe that makes for added support. In any case, . . I chose the EPI mainly because of the better handle. Only one drawback. . the Epi STINKS! Yes, it smells strongly of glue and chemicals. I will need to air it out and out-gas for a couple weeks at least.

  • Safe and Secure

As reviewed by John on 3/18/2010

Finally, my Emperor hard shell case arrived. It is beautifully crafted, like it's custom made. The case is a little tight (due to the cushioning), very plush inside with lots of latches and a lock. The case is strong and it really secures my axe. No looseness at all. I know my guitar is secure and protected. It was worth the wait. JL
