Too Good To Be True?

After years spent in showrooms playing (and probably drooling on) numerous Gibson SJ-200's, a friend of mine suggested I try out the Epiphone EJ-200. I looked at it on line and read a handfull of reviews and was pleasantly surprised by what owners had to say about this jumbo. So, I took a chance. I ordered one on line on Christmas night and it arrived yesterday, less than a week later. I am astounded at the quality of the sound and the appearance of this instrument! I've been trying to figure out a way to justify the purchase of the Gibson for years (I really only play at home for my own enjoyment,) and all this time I could have had what is, in my opinion, a guitar that is just as pretty, bright sounding and well built as the SJ. And for less that I got my then-new Takamine dreadnaught for back in the early 80's! Incredible finish, gold Grover tuners, lovely inlays in the neck and bridge and a great hard shell case to boot! All bought sight unseen on the advise of a friend and a little reading on the computer. I'll probably never get this lucky again! Well, at least not with a guitar purchase.

Totally unexpected

I truly did not expect the quality of this guitar. I wanted a jumbo, but they're so expensive, and for the most part, unless you buy a Gibson, they're still rather plain looking. I bought the EJ200 for the value and I really believe I got way more than I paid for. I settled on the vintage sunburst finish for a lot of reasons. I'm glad I did. The vintage sunburst is a truly beautiful, classy finish. The gold Grover tuners and cream binding make for a superb finish. I expected a cheaper brand of tuner) It's as shiny and as perfect as a guitar finish can get. And the best part, right out of the box it played great. Really crisp highs and punchy lows. I used a medium sized pick, and the volume is incredible. The action is as perfect as it can get. I didn't have to make any adjustments. I read lots of reviews where a lot of people had to change the strings when they got theirs, but right out of the box, even the strings were nice. Aside from them getting my fingers a little black, they're fine, and I'll change them soon, but for now, I'll leave it alone. This guitar is a "must have" for beginners or pro's alike. I'm overwhelmed because I didn't expect to get the quality I received. My next guitar is gonna be the Epi Emperor Joe Pass model. If the quality is as good as my EJ200, I'll own a jewel.

What I needed...

The EJ 200 is a wonderfully made guitar. Compared to other guitars that I have owned, I would say this is the easiest for me to play. The tone quality is very sharp, clear and deep. I definately recommend this instrument.

Epiphone EJ-200, Great sound

I just purchased an Epiphone EJ-200 Jumbo. This guitar has the sound of a $2000.00 Gibson. I tried two in the store. One had better high end response than the other, but that might have been due to older strings or setup. The one that I chose was oustanding in both it's bass end response and high end. The fit and finish are oustanding. I own many expensive top of the line instruments. I would put the Epiphone EJ-200 Jumbo up againt any of them on stage. I highly recomend this guitar.

Big Sound on a Budget

I bought the EJ200 about a week ago and am astounded at the quality and playability of an instrument in this price range. I've been playing more than 50 years and have owned several Gibson's and other pricey flattops. This guitar is as good as any at a fraction of the price. I have the sunburst finish and really like the workmanship. A new set of strings and a minor truss rod adjustment and this box will come alive! If you want a large body without breaking the bank, give this one a try.
