Authorized by Gibson, with the EB-0 Electric Bass, Epiphone has brought back a classic bass guitar of the early '60s. Based on the SG, this guitar-sized (30-1/2" scale) electric bass is a great axe for anyone not quite large enough for a full-size bass. Though small and light, the Epiphone EB-0 Bass has huge sound, and full-size people can play it too.
When I first decided to play bass, I knew I wanted a nice, cheap bass with a small scale, because I'd never played before, and I'm a girl with small hands, and also because I wanted to save money (who doesn't? =]) The bass itself is very well-made, considering its price, though I have found that the nut on the output jack seems to twist around when it's plugged in, and after constantly re-tightening it I've had the bad luck to snap some of the wires inside (a problem fixed with a few screwdrivers, a razor and electric tape). My other complaint is that it is SO GOSHDARN HEAVY. It starts to kill my shoulder after a few songs...which isn't all that fun. But all in all, a great starter bass. But get a good, wide strap that's easy on your shoulders to help distribute the weight more evenly.
I was delegated to play bass in our classic rock band but never played bass and never even owned one. I got this bass and consider myself lucky. Not knowing a thing about bass I had no idea this was a short scale (great for a problamatic left wrist). Easy to adjust easy to play and sounds great over our PA. I can't wait to get a bass amp and start really seeing what this little baby can do. A great value for the money.
To start, I bought this bass after falling in love with the physcodelic rock sound and wanted a more bassy tone like that of legendary bassist Jack Bruce, needles to say the only logical choice was a SG style EB bass. After some research I found the Gibson SG to fall short of the sound I sought. The next alternative was Epiphone, which blew away all my expectations in sound and feel, even despite the fact that mine is used. The Singlehumbucker is more than capable of producing a great range of tones. Neck dive isn't as bad as most people make it out to be. The real beauty is that unlike Fender which has been copied in every possible way, the Epiphone is a unique insrument which does justice to its long laid to rest Gibson conterpart, keeping its tone craftsmanship and feel alive and well in the great price model.
