Epiphone Dot Studio Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar (518706)
Availability:

Big 335 vibe for a lot less bread.

The Epiphone Dot Studio Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar builds on Epiphone's great tradition of archtops such as the legendary Sheraton and Emperor. Simplified controls and minimalist styling provide great functionality and elegant visual appeal while powerful Vintage Alnico V Plus pickups give it plenty of bite.

Drawing on the classic 335 vibe, with mahogany top, back, sides, and set neck, the Dot Studio guitar dishes out hot blues and rock when overdriven or thick jazz tones clean. The scale length is 24-3/4", with a nut width of 1-17/25". The LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece provide more sustain and string changing easier.

I bought the dot stuio yesterday despite guitar centers not honoring the posted 199 price but charging 299 in store. The guitar is beautiful for one. It has a unique sound anyway it is played. Sounds fantastic and almost acoustic like when played clean, but has a very heavy sound full of bass when distorted or overdriven. It has a very classical look to it because it is a big semi-hollow body which originally drew me to it. I have one with a worn cherry Finnish and black hardware. One downfall It does have is that it has no inlay dots on the frets but has them on the top of the fretboard for you to see. Takes a minute to get used to if you are used to playing with inlays. The guitar does not weigh a ton so it is good when you are playing for long periods. It feels nice when you strap up because it fits snugly against your body. I have had lots of fun playing it. This guitar is definately worth the money and I urge you to buy one, don't hesitate. Get a hard case for it too, don't wanna hurt that beautiful finnish.

  • Fantastic looks and value.

As reviewed by Bradley Lyons on 2/25/2008

I bought this beauty about a month ago, and I can only say it has exceeded all expectations. The fit and finish are class A (mine is the Worn Cherry, and the photos on this page do not do it justice). The sound is classic 335, and this thing can really rock a Chuck Berry tune. I?ve added a Black Bigsby B700 to mine which only makes it look better and has increased the sustain. Trust me, you cannot go wrong with this baby; it?s probably the best value available anywhere for a semi-hollow. Get it now, and enjoy!

  • Great warm sound

As reviewed by Ken on 11/21/2010

Played this at a GC last night and really was impressed with it. I've been looking at the dots for a while now and will either buy the Dot studio version in worn brown or worn cherry (the vintage sunburst looks like it came out of a fire, just my personal taste I guess) or the natural dot. The neck on the natural dot don't have the excess lacquer finish like the other painted models do. Overall this guitar sounds great and is well built.
