Comments about Engl GigMaster 310 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
Know this -- it is a great sounding amp. I have it along with a Blackstar ht40 and an Orange Crush 35rt, and this is without a doubt the best sounding. It is not even close. The Orange and Blackstar have reverb, and it's nice to have that built into an amp when you don't want to haul around pedals and extra gear. There is probably a little more headroom on the clean channel of these amps, too. However, the clean on the engl is brilliant. You can tell it wants to break out -- like a pit bull on a skinny leash -- but it holds. And, with the power soak built in, 15 amps is plenty of headroom -- if you need it THAT clean and THAT loud, you should be distributing your volume through a PA -- and this amp has a line out. This amp is killer. Killer. And screams like you would expect an engl to, but there is plenty of other sounds in this. Sounds amazing with a single-coil ash tray tele, and it's equally as amazing with humbuckers in a PRS. The boost is a great feature, too. Is it pricey, yes. Most German-quality products are. But, to find a portable, loud amp with a dedicated line out (not headphone jack -- as that shuts off the speaker) and an effects loop, the options are very limited. I didn't give it 5 stars because it doesn't have reverb -- and if it had reverb the clean side would compete with nearly any amp on the market. And if you want a little snarl when you play, this baby delivers and is way, way underrated.
