Comments about Eminence Red Coat Private Jack 12" 50W Guitar Speaker:

I put one of these in a Super Sonic and haven't looked back. To my ear, the Private Jack is warmer, smoother and less midrangey than a Celestion Greenback. It sounds great clean or overdriven with a Strat or a Les Paul; and works particularly well in an open back combo. One of these days, I'd like to try a comparison with the new Celestion Creamback G12m-65, which I would guess is similar tonally to the Private Jack. But otherwise I think the Private Jack is the best speaker out there for an open back, high gain combo.

Comments about Eminence Red Coat Private Jack 12" 50W Guitar Speaker:

I bought a Blackstar HT5 Mini Stack for my home studio but the speakers started to break up at 3/4 volume and the sound in general was a bit lacking. I went after some Celestions but after looking and reading reviews I bought 2 of these.
They look sharp. The sound is a great improvement. I get a better, more melodic sound. I get a nice sharp, clear sound on the picking and the tones are clear and nice. Overall it was a great improvement that makes this 5 watt mini stack sing, growl and get loud.

Better than a Greenback for Strats

Comments about Eminence Red Coat Private Jack 12" 50W Guitar Speaker:

I compared this speaker with a Greenback in my Super Sonic 22. With a Stratocaster, I get a beautiful, smooth, midrangey overdrive with this speaker. The Greenback is a little fuller sounding, but colors the tone more. The tone of the Private Jack is very transparent; I can hear the differences in all the pick up positions on the strat much more. The Greenback makes more of a Marshall type overdrive tone. I still love Greenbacks, especially with my Gibson SG. But the Private Jack is much better for the Stratocaster, IMO.

            Great Speaker

            About Me Experienced

Comments about Eminence Red Coat Private Jack 12" 50W Guitar Speaker:

This is a great speaker, especially for the money, and given the power rating. I would describe the overdrive tone as midrangey and transparent.

It's different than a greenback, which has a fuller sound. If you want the sound of a Marshall, the Celestions have that sound; they sound especially good with humbuckers, IMHO.

But if you are a Fender guy and you want an overdrive tone for your strat, you are going to love this speaker. I put one in a Super Sonic, and I'm getting a great transparent overdrive with it. If you are a tubscreamer into super reverb type, you'll like this with a master volume amp.

The distortion is nice and smooth, and I can hear all the tonal nuances of the strat through the private jack (i.e. the different tones of each of the three pickups). This speaker also doesn't color the sound as much as the greenback.

If I needed more power, I think I'd go for an eminence wizard. That's another speaker that is great for a fender distortion sound. But otherwise, I like the private jack.

Both speakers have an outstanding clean sound as well.

So I guess what I am saying is the private jack (and the wizard) are outstanding speakers in their own right. They aren't really clones of a G12M (and a G12h) to my ear. They sound different. And I personally prefer the tone of these with fenders, the same way I also like the celestions with gibsons.

Comments about Eminence Red Coat Private Jack 12" 50W Guitar Speaker:

I have bought a lot of speakers (costing me $1000s) and this one absolutely stands out from the rest. Very balanced, musical, tone. Its OD tones are very good, but where it stands out is its absoultely stunning clean tones. I was very susprised that it is so good versus many much more expensive speakers from Celestion, Jensen, EV, ASW, WGS, Two Rock, Tone Tubby, JBL, Altec, and others. Do yourself a favor and check it out. I play Fender Tweed amps from the late 50s and very high-end Dumble-style amps - a Glaswerks SOD II and a Bludotone High Plains Drifter.

Eminence speaker. This is an upgrade for sure, I was looking for a little more
Low end and kids from my Blues Jr and this was it! Clean sharp highs as well.

              Private Jack

Comments about Eminence Red Coat Private Jack 12" 50W Guitar Speaker:

Recently installed 2 Eminence Legend GB12's hoping to find that elusive "greenback" tone in my Peavey Classic 50 2x12. The Legend GB12 was very dark sounding and lacked definition, especially on runs. Took 'em out, put in 2 Private Jacks and found the tone I've been looking for!
Nice break up with the Jacks and killer definition on everything! The Private Jack's are simply an amazing speaker!
They are the closest speaker to the Greenback that I've heard!
They have a great high end sizzle, incredible mid voicing and a tight bass that's punchy and clear!
              Killer Speaker!

              Fender Blues Junior Upgrade

              By Brian -huMpD

              from Oklahoma City, OK

Comments about Eminence Red Coat Private Jack 12" 50W Guitar Speaker:

Just in case you were wondering, the Private Jack does fit in the Fender Blues Junior cabinet with no modifications or transformer swaps. Like many Fender Blues Junior owners, I became disillusioned with the amp's somewhat boxy, harsh nature and have swapped tubes (preamp and power tubes) in an attempt to combat that sound. I have not performed any of the various mods out there for the amp, but I can say without a doubt that this speaker radically improved this amp. The sound is clearer, less harsh, and not prone to low end farting common with the stock Eminence speaker. I thought maybe I was getting tube rattle before the speaker swap when I hit the low E, but it was just the stock speaker. Before trying any mods, try swapping speakers. There's no soldering involved and it only takes about 10 minutes. As far as which speaker to mod with, I think it depends on your use for your amp. In my case, I'm playing lead, so I needed a speaker with some smoky texture that wouldn't muddy up on the low end. This speaker fits that bill nicely, with no harsh highs, excellent definition and a prominent but bluesy midrange. I find that the tone of this speaker is well suited to jumping out of the mix in a musical, balanced way. My buddy recently installed a Cannabis Rex in his cabinet, which has more bass and an overall warmer tone, and the Private Jack plays very, very nicely with his tone.
