I did a bunch of research on speakers before I bought these. There were a lot of negatives out on the web about these. I listened to samples and compared looking for a speaker that would still have the British edge but not quite so shrill, I decided, regardless of the reviews, that these were the ones to try. I have been playing through them and as they have loosened up (broken in) they sound great, really what I have been looking for. They have tight low end and none of the shrill harshness that my green backs have. The more I play through these the more I like them. I often think people write reviews before they really give something a chance. I play with a Les Paul through an 18Watt head I built in the "Blues Breaker" vein, into a 2X12 cabinet. The amp has really come alive with these speakers. I recommend them to anyone looking for a more rounded sound.
Like the preceeding reviewer, I built my own 18 Watt (marshall 1974x) guitar amp. I had an Eminence Lady Luck and a Legend in the amp before getting the Wizard. 103db spl.. that's LOUD! And the speaker handles it perfectly.. Yes I've only had it in a couple of days. But listen, I ran my cd player through it for about four hours and it improved just in that time. 20 - 30 hours down the line I feel positive it will be sounding even better than it is. My lows are tight without being 'gone'.. the mids are smooth, the high end is there anytime you wish to draw on it. no icepicks! I haven't been able to find any cone cry, it's articulate, full, and did I say LOUD! I can only imagine your 4X12 loaded with Wizards! I will definitely buy another.. and another. Fantastic product. Great tone. and kudos to SF SD GC for excellent service.
