  • WOW, Terrific Buy!!

As reviewed by Badgoat on 1/15/2010

So, I have been struggling for the longest time to get "that tone" from my Peavey Valveking 212 combo. Changed out tubes, elevated the amp, and eq'd it til my fingers fell off and I just couldn't quite get there. A friend of mine at work suggested Eminence Red Coat series speakers. I was determined to get Celestion V30's but he convinced me to give these a whirl...poured over thread after thread reading up on the pro's and con's of the "Governor's vs. V30's" I knew I wanted a classic british sounding speaker to give me more of a marshally tone. So I finally took the plunge and bought these speakers, got delivered to my house and they were packaged very well which made me extremely happy, got them installed, and wired up. I play through an American HSS Fender Strat with S1 switching. My wife was sitting in the room with me and her jaw hit the floor when I made those few initial strums. I soon noticed that the wet sensation on my chin was the drool from my mouth. This amp now sounds AMAZING! So warm and brilliant. I rock back on the humbucker, go drop D, fire up the Boss MT-2 pedal and I am dropping some heavy TOOL riffs, kick everything to clean and it's Hotel California... The range of sound/tone of these speakers in this amp have made me a believer. I couldn't be happier and am extremely pleased with my purchase. Cheers!

  • Awsome Modern/Vintage sound!

As reviewed by Ray on 1/24/2011

I had a Marshall 1960A Cab with G12t75's and I always loved my clean and crunch sounds from it but ultragain tones were a little muddy and tinny when using modern high gain tube amps like Marshall JVM, Mesa DualRec's, or the solid state Line6 Hd147. I bought two of these and mixed them in an X-pattern in the cab. Awesome sound. They do sound similar to V30's, but they have more of that "woody vintage rasp" that was totally unexpected when I bought them, but it was a good thing. I have used a mesa cab before with 4 V30's and though I loved the high gain low end response I could not stand the boomy sterile cleans I would get. Now my cleans bloom from the low end response of the G12t75's and I retain tight high end and midrange from the Gov's. And when in high gain they give that tightness but sound a little bit different in the low mids than the V30's, more vintage and boxy I would say. All in all an awesome speaker. I have also heard that 2 of these and 2 Wizards also sound great, more vintage but tighter tone for metal.

  • Excellent, LOUD Speaker

As reviewed by Matthew Peters on 9/29/2011

Replaced the stock Eminence in a HRDX with the Governor, big improvement in the sound, response and tone. The bass response is better and tighter, the high end is not harsh and the sensitivity is terrific. I am about 20 hours into breaking the speaker in and it is starting to settle in a bit, loosen up and open up. Did I mention this speaker is loud. It's loud almost to a fault. I would highly recommend replacing a stock low-end speaker with any of the Eminence Red Coats or Patriot as I have tried several and all are good, just depends on your taste as to which one to get. The speaker was very well packaged and the fit'n finish is terrific, kinda wish I could put it on the outside of the amp:) Looking forward to the speaker getting even better with a few more gigs and hours of play.
