Great speaker for the money! I have 3 of these total, 1 in my Blues Jr, and a pair in my silverface Pro Reverb. These speakers are a great replacement for any player looking to tame some high end and retain solid low end without being to boomy. The hemp cone has no doping to the surround so the speaker is quite responsive and lively. As with any speaker, it needs some break in time, so give it a few weeks of playing before coming to any quick conclusion, though i thought it sounded great out of the box. Uses the same technology as a Tone Tubby speaker but at a more affordable price. I think these are great on their own, or as a match with say a Vintage 30 to add more midrange. Looking forward to trying the AlNiCo version (Canis Major). Pick one (or two) today!
Well, bought this little gem after much research and sounds bytes on the competition as a replacement in a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, and I'm very satisfied. This thing keeps sounding more and more amazing the more I break it in. Some purists out there already don't like the HRD (to my amazement) based on what I've read in some forums, but this amp sounds positively incredible with this amp. The more she loosens up, the more satisfied I become with her. Eminence has made a quality speaker here, and I couldn't be happier to spend my $$$ in the USA.
I play an American Tele through an NOS Blues Jr. After owning the BJ for two years, I still was unhappy with the Jensen speaker that came with the amp. The high ends were piercing, shrill, and the overall balance of sound was just not what I'd hoped for. Plus, the amp had the infamous boxy sound. After much research I bought a Cannabis Rex. After just two days of playing, it transformed my amp into a whole new level. Perfect for power chords, and the high end is no longer unbearable. Every note rings out loud and clear, a perfect match for the Blues Jr. Expecting the CR to need a lot of break-in time, I did not expect much the first time I played through it. I honestly felt like I was a better guitar player, I could not believe my ears. The amp no longer sounded boxy, with the high and lows sounding the way they were meant to. I can't believe some people do not give this speaker a 5 star review. For the price, you can't go wrong. I don't know if this speaker will break up, as I always use pedals, so I don't really care. I am definitely going to put one in my Deluxe Reverb as well. Bottom line, if you are thinking about buying the Cannabis Rex, IMO, buy it, you will not regret it.
