Great Balsy cleans for electric roots blues and jazz. Very good midrange and low notes voicing. I don't play metal or distortion so can not rate it for distortion.
I bought the Lil Buddy to put in an early 80's Peavey Backstage plus that i got as a light weight practice amp.The stock speaker sounded ok at low volumes but would get brash and tinny at higher volumes and just pop and fart when driven hard. after some research and reading the reviews I figured Id give the Lil Buddy a try. I mean why not put an $80.00 speaker in a $50.00 amp??? Installed the speaker in about 10 minutes, factory holes lined up perfect, good heavy speaker compared to stock, nicely packaged and great quality. The gamble paid off!!! This thing sounds great, much warmer than I expected for a 10", but has nice cleans and breaks up nicely when pushed.Much louder! As a matter of fact I wouldn't hesitate to play a small bar gig with it just to see. Very Impressed. Now instead of bringing this old Peavey to practice cause of the light weight, Im bringing it cause it sounds great!
I selected this speaker for my Fender SCXD after a lot of reading and pondering. As others have stated, I was skeptical of the 5 star reviews, but once installed and fired up I have to agree .. it's a 5. It was very easy to install with no mods needed. The Lil' Bud is just as described on the Eminence website ... darker/rich tone. The bass was a bit tight/bright at first, but it is getting warmer as the speaker breaks in. The mids and treble are awesome ... warm/smooth. Better to my ears than stock for the type music I play, and definitely louder. The guitar I use most is a mahogany chambered tele with vintage stacked (HB) Duncan at the neck & Duncan Little ?59 (HB) at the bridge with normal tele wiring (no coil splitting). Strings are D'Addario EXL115 (11 - 49). I play semi-pro in cocktail lounges ... mostly jazz, blues, pop, light rock. I've been playing 40 years and have been through a lot of rigs. Now days I want a good sounding small (light) package, and this combo with the Lil' Bud seems to be it. I use mostly channel 1 and setting #2 on channel 2. This speaker does a great job for me on those selections. On some of the other selections (like the Jazz King) it is quite dark and treble needs to be dialed up. With the OD channels the Lil' Bud sounds good to me, and not at all harsh. The bottom line is I like this speaker for the use described.
