I recently purchased a used Epifani PS-410 bass cabinet for a great price but it had some speaker issues. I changed out all 4 drivers for new Eminence Legend BP102-8 and could not be more pleased. I was looking to get the most bottom end I could as most ten inch speakers don't get very low. The frequency rating for the BP102 is stated from the company as being between 40Hz-2.0kHz. This is definitely a woofer so if your cab doesn't have a horn or you're looking for more high end this may not be the ideal driver for you. However, when mounted into my Epifani cab, even with the horn off, these speakers stay crystal clean but can really get your sound down into the sub-basement realm. Rated at a respectable 200 watts rms, priced well below $100.00 and in the 8+ pound range the Eminence BP102 is ideal for your 4x10 bass cab. Powerful, light weight, superb tone and a price that is hard to beat makes the Eminence BP102 a tremendous value.
Got this driver to replace an identical one in my Goliath Jr III, that had been damaged at a gig on Saturday night. The cost to re-cone is equivalent to replacement (At GC price anyway) so I got the new one shipped in two days (ordered Monday arrived Thursday)put it in and ka-thump, back in effect for Friday night gig!
The only issue to point out is that the driver itself took a tiny bit of convincing and positioning to get INTO the cabinet and be very careful how much pressure you apply to the contacts when connecting the leads. It isn't the most sturdy part of the assembly. Other than that though I am glad I went ahead and replaced it and will still send my other one out for re-coning as a backup!
Used this speaker to replace a Hartke 10" aluminum cone, which is notorious for premature failure. The BP102 easily handles the 120 Watts RMS of my kickback. The sound: warm, full and punchy. Not like some mid range speaker struggling to produce low satisfying frequencies. In a nutshell, don't hesitate to use this replacement speaker, to replace a blown 10" driver. Forget repeated reconing. This speaker is priced right, and delivers the goods. Perfect for your high end rigs, like Eden or SWR etc. Usually when a product performs this well, and priced realistically, it will be discontinued and replaced with overpriced crap of marginal performance. Buy it now. Shop on internet for best price. Buy a few, before they go away. You heard it first right here....
