I was making my own Baltic Birch Cab like a Hard Truckers, and was looking for that JBL E-120 sound. This speaker delivers the goods with high sensitivity, Clear tone, no breakup, and High RMS wattage. Makes my Fender 65'Twin Reverb sing Like Jerry Garcia's. People often ask me if they are JBL E-120's, they are identical in looks and in TONE. You wont be sorry, don't bother to re-cone some 30 year old speaker with lower sensitivity and unknown outcomes. This does the job perfectly, and for less money. They are LOUD and you will NEVER BLOW THEM.
My daughter and I built a 2 x 12 guitar cabinet using birch plywood (excellent cabinet work with a mandarin orange water based stain finish - superb!). We evaluated many speakers and chose the commonwealths over everything; even JBL and higher priced Celestions. We made the right choice. Very high power handling, excellent tonal range and they are beautiful. They are very heavy though, so make sure your cabinet is sturdy. We will build another cabinet in 3 weeks. We will use either two more commonwealths or the eminence BassLite CA2010. Yes, bass speakers for a guitar cabinet. These two speakers are the best kept secret out there.
