Overview

Jam on and on (and on) with the same premium electric bass guitar strings that experienced players worldwide trust to keep their incredible tone longer than any other string available.

Specially developed based on in-depth feedback from more than a thousand bass players just like you, Elixir Strings' tailor-made selection of bass strings proudly includes nickel-plated and stainless steel construction options, four-, five- and six-string sets, long and extra-long scales, and virtually every gauge range you could possibly need. All with their innovative string coating technology. And unlike other string brands, Elixir Strings coats the whole string. This protects not only the outer string surface but also the gaps between the windings where common tone-deadening gunk typically builds up in other brands’ coated and uncoated guitar strings.

Who wouldn’t love more quality playing time between the hassle and cost of string changes?

Premium by design, these electric bass guitar strings constructed with nickel-plated steel wrap wire boast a rich, rounded tone with incredible clarity and a heavy mid-range presence. Meanwhile, the ultra-thin NANOWEB Coating, redesigned specifically for bass guitars, allows a smooth, natural feel that also enhances grip and reduces finger squeak.

For a brighter bass tone, try Elixir Strings' Stainless Steel Bass Strings with NANOWEB Coating.

Of course, the kind of string you play is all a matter of personal preference. Not sure what tone is right for you? Try them out for yourself, and find your new favorite string from Elixir Strings.

the only reason i got these string was because they came with my ibanez sr 506 . let me tell you... they feel good for awhile. but for some reason the coating came off...leaving my strings kind of sticky in certain areas. this is no isolated incident either. i have had the same thing happen to me two times before this. weird. but maybe i just got duds. and they do last a very long time. tone kind is kind of lacking though.

What to expect

By Ken Lloyd

from Heyworth IL

Comments about Elixir Nickel-Plated Steel 4-String Bass Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Extra Long Scale, Light/Medium (.045-.105):

This is my first set of Elixir bass strings. Years ago, I worked for GC, selling these and never needing to buy them. Now I'm playing them on a Ken Smith bass. They're not too bright, not at all dull, and are exactly what I expected. I've never spent this much on strings, but so far it's worth it. Wish they made an ovalwound or groundwound set. If you're new to coated strings and can't imagine WHY, just trust a 20 year bass veteran with boutique gear. There's a reason these cost more, and they'll probably last me about 7 years playing twice a week. If you play (string)pop/funk or make them hit the fretboard hard a lot, that'll make them wear out faster, if you play light finger style and wipe them down afterwords, they might even last longer. Good scale length for my two plus octave bass as well. Unlike most strings, these aren't suitable for boiling, in my opinion.

Great strings!!

By Ron

from Coto de Caza, CA

Comments about Elixir Nickel-Plated Steel 4-String Bass Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Extra Long Scale, Light/Medium (.045-.105):

Elixir medium gauge strings came on my Ibanez 5 string, and a year and half later they are still going strong! They are getting a bit dirty and have very slight fraying by the fingering area near the pickups, but they are still bright, punchy, and have great ring. I'm totally amazed that they would last this long, and right now there are no plans to change them! Only complaint earlier was that they only came in the heavier medium gauge, which is fine for my 5 string, but too heavy for my fours and fretless. Now looks like they have a lighter gauge available. I don't pluck super heavy on my strings, so have not had the wear that others have reported. Nothing but good to say about these strings!!

Best tone - worth the $$

By Martin

from Cleveland, OH

Comments about Elixir Nickel-Plated Steel 4-String Bass Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Extra Long Scale, Light/Medium (.045-.105):

I tried Elixir bass strings after reading about them in Bass Player magazine when they did the string shoot. They were rated best in tone and Bass Player got it right!! These strings are by far the best bass tone you can find!! The deep lows are clear, not muddy. The middle is articulate, and the highs are crisp!! I'm not too fond of coated strings on a guitar, but on a bass they are the best thing gong!! I use these strings for tone but the fact that they last longer than others because of the coating is an added bonus. They are worth the extra dollars!

After trying almost every brand of bass strings, I have come to like these the best.

By Ron

from Trabuco Canyon, CA

Comments about Elixir Nickel-Plated Steel 4-String Bass Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Extra Long Scale, Light/Medium (.045-.105):

I really prefer round wound bass strings for their crisp, ringing, punchy tone. A Brand new set sounds amazing. The main issue though is that they start to dull after several weeks and lose that ring and much of their harmonics. In a prefect world, my favorite strings ( for pure tone ) are probably Rotosound Swing Bass strings, but like all other uncoated strings, they change their tone after a month or two and go dull. The Elixir coated strings have proved to be far more durable with long lasting tone, and with the cost of bass strings, that's definitely a factor. I've also tried several other brands of coated strings (Ernie Ball, Cleartone, etc) and I really think Elixir is the best of the bunch. The other coated strings lasted only marginally longer than non-coated strings, while the Elixirs have just lasted and lasted. I like the medium gauge also, as it is great for rock, blues, etc. Aside from flatwounds on my fretless, The Elixir Nanoweb strings are my main choice for all of my basses.

Pretty cool..

Comments about Elixir Nickel-Plated Steel 4-String Bass Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Extra Long Scale, Light/Medium (.045-.105):

...for the price. With all of the coated strings on the market, I have to say these last a REALLY long time. Tone is pretty good too considering most wrapped or coated strings sound like they have been dipped in wax. Only reason for 4/5 stars is the price. If you have extra money (most musicians don't!! haha), get these. But a basic string, well cared for, will last pretty much as long at half the price.

Great Tone and Feel. Nice work Elixir!

By Joe Colella

from Brooklyn New York

Comments about Elixir Nickel-Plated Steel 4-String Bass Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Extra Long Scale, Light/Medium (.045-.105):

I got these strings just to try out and see how they are. Man when I used these, they were perfect! They don't feel slimy at all and are nice, smooth and slick but still gives a nice 'grip'. The coating is pretty tough, but when I play, my strings get whacked the hell out of. After two months the coating is starting to finally wear off on the right hand area on the a string. It does not flake nor is it like a snake's skin. It is kind of 'frayed'. They have great lasting tone that has a nice punch and boom but still holds it together with the highs. Features: A great coated string that feels like an uncoated string. They meet all of my expectations. Quality and Reliability: This is my second pack after my first g string was accidentally cut off. So I replaced all of the strings since you should never replace just one string. It still has the same tone it had when I first used them and will last for a LONG time. Look and Feel: Feels like it is not coated and holds well to my playing. One thing about Elixirs: I've never broken one. I've broken DRs and Rotosounds but these are pretty tough. They look great and have started to flake on my a string where my right hand plays, but I play VERY HARD. Nice job Elixir! You make great strings!

Not for me, heres why=

By Scott

from Oregon

Comments about Elixir Nickel-Plated Steel 4-String Bass Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Extra Long Scale, Light/Medium (.045-.105):

These are alright and fine to play on but I would have to say overrated. The smoothness takes away versitility and after some time playing makes it hard to hear the notes clearly and theres really no need for the coating. They came standard on my Ibanez GSR200 I didn't really like them. Personaly and with the Bass I got with the Phat Bass Boom fullrounds or lighter guages are easier to play and you can give light strings a lot of low end. Plus more fullrounded strings are nice and bright so Elixer dosn't rate high with me. If you want a smooth feel and low end sound that's more suttle or it fits your style of music or your style of playing have at it.
