Overview

Gauges: 12-16-24-32-42-53.

Elixir Acoustic Guitar Strings are covered with an ultrathin, space-age polymer tube that contacts the string on the tops of the windings only. This leaves the all-important winding-to-winding-to-core space free from the fear of the enemies of tone!

Elixir Nanoweb coating permits acoustic guitar strings with the feel, bright tone, and punch of traditional strings. Elixirs are the first major innovation in guitar strings in over forty years and they deliver what they promise: great tone and long life no matter what you put them on or how often you play.

Most players report that Elixir Strings keep sounding great 3 to 5 times longer than ordinary strings.

I have played with many different kinds of strings and i have to say that this one is the BEST. I sound is rich and smooth and simply MIND BLOWING, not to mention they last a lot longer than other strings. You don't have to replace it as often because it is coated and is perfect for people with sweaty hands. Seems a bit more pricey, but worth it in the long run.

I have been using D'Addario EXP's (EXP16 and EXP17) on a super-jumbo acoustic guitar. Just on a whim I decided to try these Elixir's (Light Nanoweb .12's) to see the difference in the two as I wanted to really lock down which strings I wanted to use as my choice of strings as I have narrowed it down to EXP and Elixir's because I've heard they were the best. I put the EXP's on and 5 months later I switched to these Elixir's. The EXP's were still practically new - no wear on them, still had really bright tone and lots of reponse. I put the Elixir's on and I will admit that the strings sound good. However, there is the problem - the STRINGS sound good. I want the strings to compliment how my GUITAR sounds. I want my guitar to sound like a guitar and the strings to really bring out the brightness and the bass aspect as well. With the Elixir's it felt like I was playing these expensive strings other than this gorgeous guitar. So overall if you want a coated string for a couple bucks less with, in my opinion, more response and tone, go with D'Addario EXP16's.

LISTEN!!

By Keith

from Newtown, PA

I'm open-minded to new things and have experimented with a variety of brands through the years, so when the Elixirs came along with a price 3x that of the average pack, I was definitely curious to see what all the fuss was about. I have an all-solid wood concert-size acoustic that I gig with frequently. I've played it for endless hours and know how it responds to flat picking and finger-picking. I look for the response of the strings to be linear. (Particularly in finger-picking - Each string needs to be heard equally.) I put on the Elixirs and it was like half my guitar was missing. Lots of bright high-end sparkle, OK low end, but severely lacking mid's. I played them for 20 minutes; trying different techniques, different styles of music... Finally, I couldn't take it any longer. I ripped them off and put on a brand I have often used before...Ahhhh there's my guitar. I know a lot of people rave about how long these strings stay shiny and fresh and feel so smooth, but really, who cares how long they last or how they feel if they sound so poor to begin with? Experiment with different strings and see what they give you, but most importantly...LISTEN to your guitar.

So far, AWESOME!

By JOHN EHLER

from TX

I've been playing guitar for around 22 years and I'm quite impressed by these strings. They really seem to keep the new string sound. They sound better than other strings I've used, and in over 2 decades (I feel old now), I've used A LOT of strings. Also, they record VERY well, and seem to keep the tuning well. Much more sparkle, depth, and detail in my studio. I haven't noticed them playing easier (or harder), but they continue to sound awesome. So far (almost a month in) these strings totally kick a55! They just keep sounding new and awesome. :D Totally worth the investment. That's my $.02

Best Light Strings Available

By Jay Gould _

from Hidden Valley Lake, CA

I have used Elixirs on my son's Martin and they perform brilliantly. Lively, great tone, and they hold their tuning. I also have used Elixir lights on my Guild 12-strings for years. As such, it was not much of a surprise that they were standard issue on my new Taylor 614ce, as I found out they are on all Taylor guitars. These are just the best. A bit more expensive than some others, but worth every penny to the serious player.

Sterile lack warmth bass responce

By TOM LUKAS

from Fremont, Ca

I put these strings on my Martin D18 and was disappointed with them. These strings diminished the bass and overall harmonic overtones that I am used to hearing from my guitar when strung with Martin/D'Addario phosphor-bronze sets. This is the first set of coated strings I've used on my guitar so I can only judge them against non-coated strings.

Long Life?

By Mike Lavelle

from Springfield VA

I bought a set of these strings for my acoustic guitar and was very dissapointed. Keep in mind that I do not play acoustic guitar very often and when I do, I play very lightly. Just a few days after having these strings the coating started to flake off leaving dust and debris all over the instrument and giving the strigs a crusty feeling. If I am paying extra money for a set of coated guitar strings, I expect the coating to actually stay on. If you are looking for really good quality acoustic strings, buy "Auroras." I put a set of these on my guitar 3 years ago and have not had to change them since! There was litterally no sign of wear and tear untill I played "Dueling Banjos" at a concert last year. Lots of bright color options too! stringsbyaurora.com, check it out!

Great Strings

By carlos

from mountlake terrace WA

These strings were by far the best ive had so far. Ive tryed at lest three other trypes of stngs that eather broke or frayed quicky and couldnt hold a note. The one complaint i had was, it took long time to get the strings broken in. Over all theyve held up to my constant abuse. I play hard rock and some metal with my guitar so these strings can take all you can give them.

Nice tone, high breakage

By Joe

from Huntly, VA

At one point I couldn't get through a show without the G string breaking. Spent money having my bridge looked at by 2 luthiers to no avail. They always break at the bridge. On my HD28, D35 and Taylor. I thought I had bought some from a 'bad lot' but it doesn't go away, always the G, at the bridge, durn near every show. But the tone is exemplary...the 'longevity' of tone doesn't do much for me if I can only get 2-3 hours of good playing before I have to buy another $5.00 single string. So there is stopping in the middle of a song, changing the string, very awkward, just about every perfomance - @ one venue folks mention how weird it is if I actually get through a night without breaking one...that's pretty weak.

I havent had any problem with breakage either. Ive never broken one of these and I play every day. The sound is good. I like EJ-16 D-adarrio's sound the best but dont last as long as these.
