I have used SM58's for as long as I can remember. I have tried many other mics and always came back to the SM58. I've been reading reviews on mic's and they all talked about the 58 sounding muddy. After listening to home recordings and in front of my system I started noticing some less than crisp sounds. I read many reviews on several mics and the EV N/D767a seemed to be a good choice for the price range and decided to try one. All I can say is WOW! "unbelievable difference" The EV 767 is Sooooo! clear and crisp throughout the entire range of "my" vocals. I did not realize how much of my vocal was lost with the SM58. I play through a Bose L1 system that accentuates what is put in and the sound is absolutely great. The 58 is now the backup mic. The 767 is much hotter and I had to turn down the gain by 25% for the same volume. I wish I had found this mic years ago.

EV N/D767a - mine is wildly mediocre

I've had an EV N/D767a and an EV N/D767 since 2008, and while the N/D767 has been awesome, the 767a has done nothing but be average or below average. Within the first year, mine stopped working all together and I sent it to Electro-Voice to be repaired. I got the mic back within 2 weeks and it worked pretty well. Since then, it's usability has continually dropped. At this point, it's very sensitive to sounds and will pick up a voice even if the source is a foot or two away, but the output is miserable and there's always a bunch of feedback. I've tried it with different cables, mixers, speakers... everything I can think of and all that gets pointed to is the microphone itself being the issue. Based on other reviews, this seems to be a "just me" issue.

Comments about Electro-Voice N/D767a Dynamic Supercardioid Vocal Microphone:

I was impressed how clean and clear this microphone was when we plugged it into the PA where my Shure 58 had been plugged into. We literally had to turn it down, it had that much punch and it was so clean and so clear when I spoke into the microphone, then sang into the microphone. I could really hear my singing including the harmonies I would sing. Most impressive!

Comments about Electro-Voice N/D767a Dynamic Supercardioid Vocal Microphone:

I have only had this EV N/D767 a few days and have only used it so far in my livingroom with an old powered mixer, so I haven't given it a road test yet with the full PA on a real gig, but I did compare it side-by-side with a Shure SM58 and my very first impression is - believe it or not - I think it sounds as good as or better than the 58. Of course the Shure SM58 I compared it to is much much older - probably 25 years old although not used that much. And this EV mic is brand new, I suppose that could be a factor. And I need to compare them more before I buy more N/D767s. But my first impression is the EV sounds a tad bit warmer, richer, more color on my voice. I know I know... challenging the SM58, a pro-stage standard is a bold statement. so I have to give it more time and see if my first impression holds up over time.

Comments about Electro-Voice N/D767a Dynamic Supercardioid Vocal Microphone:

This mic is really pretty amazing. Great frequency response, and a very tight, extended low end. It really behaves more like a condensor mic in how it sounds and responds. Ruggedness is yet to be determined, but mics should be treated with TLC anyhow.

I use it for teaching dancing. It's very popular among dance teachers and square dance callers.

This is my 2nd 767A - I have my older, but still perfect, 767A as a backup mike.

                Why people have problems.

Comments about Electro-Voice N/D767a Dynamic Supercardioid Vocal Microphone:

This is no doubt a 5 star item, i tried it out along with 3 other mics one was the sure 58 a standard among the music industry, and after trying it out i dont know why... the reason people have trouble with feedback from this mic is that it is SUPER cardioid and if your monitors are pointing at the back of it your going to have some issues but if you point your monitors slightly to the side, you're golden and you cant by a better mic for the price or for under 200 in my opinion!
