Where to start? I had these bad boys for about 9 months now, and used them for over 20 gigs so far. Mainly weddings and corporate events, with the occasional family birthday party. Lets start with what I like.
- These babies look good as part of your set up. You can light up the logo or turn it off. Me personally, I like the logo on.
- The Highs and Mid's are AMAZING and can get really loud which means it can cover a large venue. i recommend to set these up so the woofer would be just above your head for larger venues. And for the woofer to be right at your head height for average size venues. That way the Tweeters or Highs are above everyone and you don't hurt there hears.
- The simplicity of the speaker is a huge benefit. The back is easy and simple to use.

*******Now the bad.
- These bad boys are heavy and take away the "Mobil" from Mobil DJ. They can be a pain to put on tripods. And you can carry both at the same time, only to be out of breathe and with your hands cramped from carrying them. I usually do one at a time (I know, I know, buy a dolly).
- The lows are weak compared to other speakers I used. EV had to sacrifice something in order to get quality and lows where sacrificed. They sound flat which is great for Acoustics, bands, or ceremony use. But for party use, you might need to get a sub to get that kick. Lows will sound a feel just fine in small indoor venues. Larger or outdoor venues you'll need to set up your sound just right to get something.
- Since they are wooden cabinets they can be fragile, they can get dinged up if your not careful.
- If these speakers are going to be put in permanently in a Venue and you get a sub to go along with it. They will be the best thing you ever bought! Pure quality.
-If your a Mobil DJ these will be HEAVY and sound good in smaller venues (Lows, Mid's, High's) and sound good in larger venues (Only Mid's, and Highs).

Best speakers for the money..period.

By Randy Jones

Comments about Electro-Voice ELX115P Active 15" Loudspeaker:

These speakers are awesome. We use an old peavey sub with them now, but hope to get the matched subs at some point. My band plays hard rock covers and these handle everything, and are sooooo loud. My band relies heavily on PA, as my drummer uses vdrums, and I use HD500 direct into pa. These speakers pump hard. No loss of any freq. at loud volumes either. I have pushed these real hard and have not seen the clip light come on at all yet... I dont even know what color it is..lol. The cabs are LIGHT and easy to carry. The finish is better then i had thought it would be after reading other reviews. It seems like it would be tough. But because they are wood, I bought the matching covers. I would put these up against qsc or jbl any day.

Great sound

By Richard Culton

Comments about Electro-Voice ELX115P Active 15" Loudspeaker:

After doing a lot of research at my local store and online I decided to give these speakers a try. I was impressed during the demo at the store but once I put them in front of my band I was blown away. These speakers exceeded my expectations. My keyboard player uses QSC for his boards and is a die hard fan and thought I should have bought QSC. After hearing the EV's he is a convert. They sound as good if not better and the price blows QSC away. Paired with the Live X subs we have a great sound!

Great Speaker System!

By John Helder

from Lancaster, PA

Comments about Electro-Voice ELX115P Active 15" Loudspeaker:

These are my first powered speakers. In the past I have owned Yamaha, EV, and custom built JBL cabinets. I had a DJ system and worked weekends for 20 years for crowds numbering from around 70 to over 600 people. I received the EV 115P speakers on Wednesday and put them to work that Saturday. I was almost shocked at how simple the set up was. I played music for a Christmas party of about 120 people. These EV's simply sounded great. They were easy to put on and off tripod stands. They are clear and accurate. The extra you pay for the amp integrated into the speaker cabinet is well worth the price. I would get them again.

    Comments about Electro-Voice ELX115P Active 15" Loudspeaker:

I've been a disc jockey and provided sound reinforcement for about 28 years now and currently also own speakers from Yamaha, Peavey, JBL, Alto, and Behringer. These are my best speakers by a landslide. Simply put, they sound loud, larger, and superior clarity than any speaker that I've ever owned. I used them earlier tonight and felt the need to finally write this review as I provided music and announcements for one of the most difficult environments possible--Outdoors during a fireworks show. Under these circumstances and with no additional sound processing, I was very pleased with their ability to project loud clear sound that could easily be heard by the hundreds of spectators at the show. I was so pleased with the sound from earlier indoor shows that I now own three pairs of the ELXp's with the 118p's to boot. I opted not to go with JBL PRX because of the $100 difference and the JBL's only have one handle on each speaker. On that note, I wish that the handles on the ELX's were horizontal so that one can put them on stands more easier OR simply have multiple handles. I also did not go with EV EKX or ETX because I'm not confident with internal DSP--I need my processing within arms reach. Another selling point of the EV product is that they make everything in and on the speaker. Thus, they're able to fine tune the enclosure and amplifier to maximize the transducers for optimal sound quality and volume. I am confident that the improved sound and loudness will land me additional gigs in the near future.

    EV 115p Live X Speakers

    Comments about Electro-Voice ELX115P Active 15" Loudspeaker:

Just bought a pair of these speakers and matched them up with a Mackie Pro FX mixer. They are the best speakers I've ever used at this price point. Our bans was renting JBL PRX speakers which are much more expensive. These sound warmer than the JBLs and are loud if you need to push them. The vocals come through great. I play keys and run them through the PA. My CP 300 and Nord Electro sound terrific through these speakers. One of the speakers came in with a dented grille. The folks at GC replaced that speaker for me quickly. Buy these speakers!

        Comments about Electro-Voice ELX115P Active 15" Loudspeaker:

As long as you are aware of the thermal protection. This is the best value for a self powered speaker by a long shot. I've seen other reviews that recommend going with the plastic cabinet version. This is a mistake for numerous reasons. The most of which is the wrap around bass effect that is prevalent with almost all plastic cabinets including the EV's. The other is the actual bass response that is lost by the flexing of the resonant chamber of a plastic speaker enclosure. These are not legitamate reasons to spend more money on wood cabinets if you are working as a mobile dj. But they are very real if you are doing live sound work especially in a medium sized venue where the mics are close to the mains. An absolute nightmare if you are using microphones to produce acoustic instruments.
