I've owned a pair of these since they first came out a couple of years ago. I've used these as mains in a band situation, monitors, mains for DJ and karaoke gigs. I've driven these speakers to very loud levels and have never heard even a hint of clipping. It's ridiculous how loud these little guys are. Prior to buying these, I had a pair of big dual 15" Yorkville Elite 1000EX cabs and 1500 watt RMS power amps, and I can honestly say I'm not missing much (other than the back strain) with these EVs. Not only are they ridiculously loud and clean, but the sound is very high fidelity and easy on the ears. Personally, I prefer them to the sound of the QSC K12's, because the mids on these are smoother, and they just sound better to my ears. Also, for a 12" woofer, these things KICK! Sure, they don't have the ultra-deep chest-pounding bass you'll get with a sub, but I've had people slackjawed in disbelief that everything they were hearing was coming from these cabs. After a couple of years using the heck out of these, I can't say enough good about them. The only "con" I can think of is that the cabs are easy to ding up. You will want a pair of covers with these. Otherwise, the construction quality is excellent, with high quality controls and jacks. The combination XLR/TRS jacks are also very handy. I've listened to the newly introduced and lower priced EV ZLX-12P's, and while they sound very good, these ELX cabs sound better. There's a reason these are more expensive, and they're worth it, in my opinion.

I have owned nine of these speakers, and finally after a lot of repair bills I am gradually switching my (Stage Monitor) stock to QSC. They sound fine, and would make excellent home or pro studio monitors (If you have room).

The cases are very weak are have no protective rails so they scratch and chip very easily. The grill is flimsy and easily dented.

The gain controls have no 0dB indent or marking

The quiescent noise level, even with the the gain controls at minimum is way too high.

No passive pass-through output.

I have had to replace several horn drivers, I assume they get blown easily by transients since the ELX112Ps don't have limiters. I've also had woofers blow, power supplies and amplifiers fail. I own 14 QSC powered speakers and have had far fewer problems.

They may be a couple of hundred dollars cheaper, but the QSC K12 beats or equals the ELXs in every respect. I have sold five of mine and look forward to disposing of the remaining four if anyone's interested ... Don't be!

    Comments about Electro-Voice ELX112P Active 12" Loudspeaker:

We have 2 of these and use them in a lot of different situations. They sound great for their price range. The drivers are very durable. I like that they are baltic birch boxes instead of the molded plastic. However, I recommend getting the padded covers EV offers for them to keep them looking nice. Not the loudest active box you can get, but the best box in it's price range with a very smooth sound.

      Comments about Electro-Voice ELX112P Active 12" Loudspeaker:

You will not be able to buy a better powered speaker for the money. This model outperforms the QSC K series, and blows away the cheapo's from Alto, Behringer and Peavey. My use is for professional performing, running my (two) keyboards through a mixer, then to the EV on-stage as personal monitor (and often as main outs), and it keeps up with the other 5 guys in the band, no problem. I've had several other powered monitors including the ALTO TS series, JBLs, PV's and there's no comparison to this EV model. And I'd strongly encourage the ELX series (wood enclosure) as it provides a warmth and "thickness" not evident with the molded plastic versions that are similarly priced.

Very impressed with this. Wish it had one more channel and possibly a bluetooth option, but works fine - Plenty of other options and great sound. I like the ability to daisy chain from one to the other, using BOTH channels by the flip of a switch. Great feature for mobile DJ using a computer. the combo XLR / 1/4" inputs are great, plus the preamp for mic is helpful

          Comments about Electro-Voice ELX112P Active 12" Loudspeaker:

I'm only writing this to comment on some of the negative reviews. First off, the input jacks are on the side away from the floor and and your input cables come nowhere close to hitting the floor when used as monitors.

I use 4 of these as floor monitors every week and they are the clearest monitors I have ever personally used. My sound rental clients love them as well. I can get these louder without feedback than nay other monitors I have used to date.

Secondly , in spite of what a couple reviewrs say the sound out of these is very smooth and even. In full range mode they have a ton of clear bass and in "with sub" mode they are perfect for vocals and guitars. I own lot of different speakers, some very high end, so I have good reference point to compare them to. I can only surmise that the negative reviews are from people who don't know how to use them properly.

Use this with The Avid Eleven Rack and just love it. This FRFR speaker really ROCKS!!

Bought it to replace the Liine 6 HD500/DT50 (4x12). which was ok, but big and bulky to keep hauling around. The 11R/ELX112P combo sounds very good with amp sims. IMHO

The people at Musicians Friend were very informative and easy to work with and I appreciate that.

            Thanks, Musicians Friend
