Outstanding mic

By John

Comments about Electro-Voice Cardinal Condenser Microphone:

I've owned this mic for eight years and use it both personally (podcasting, video dubbing) and professionally - the last three as a high school sports arena announcer. I love the tonal quality and range of this mic. I have a deep baritone voice and this mic reproduces voice and instrument inflections and undertones w/o sounding tinny or hollow. Regardless of your broadcasting or recording needs, this could very well be the last mic you buy - it's that good.

Surprisingly Good on Acoustic

By TheScientist

Comments about Electro-Voice Cardinal Condenser Microphone:

I bought this mic on a bit of a whim. I wanted to add something unique to my collection and I didn't really have high expectations. So, after bringing it home, I set up a "Mic Shootout." I took 4 of my mics, set up a stand, plugged in a Universal Audio M610 preamp, and tested them all using a Taylor acoustic. (The other mics were ... Neumann TLM 103, Shure SM57, BLUE Mouse, and an Audio Technica AT2020). I was REALLY surprised at how well this mic does on acoustic guitars. It pretty much beat the pack. You should know, though, it has a strange frequency response with a few peaks above 1K. This added a nice breath to the acoustic. It's also got a decent roll off below about 150 hertz. It's proximity effect was pretty mild and I could place it almost anywhere around the guitar and get a good sound. I can't really recommend it on vocals, it's definitely not a flat response mic, but on acoustic guitar or probably any other acoustic stringed instrument it will do a good job. If you buy, I recommend placing it about 8 to 10 inches from the 14th fret. That's where the sweet spot was for me (not too much body, not too much string) What a nice, affordable mic to add to my collection - really happy with it!!!!

EV Cardinal

By Ben

from Wisconsin

Comments about Electro-Voice Cardinal Condenser Microphone:

I bought this mic a little over a year ago and I'm really happy with it. I use it for my drum overhead; I have only have one condenser mic and by itself I got pretty good drum tracks. I have also used it to record bass and it gets the low end rather well Could probably get an equally nice mic for cheaper... only regret. awesome though
