I have tried many octave and phase shifting pedals, but nothing has come close to the clarity and variety of the POG 2. In film score, I like to apply electric effects to acoustic instruments and this pedal doesn't have the digital overtones of other octave pedals. I can get unbelievable swells (Steve Morse, Eric Johnson) and cinematic feedback with an acoustic guitar using the LP Filter and Detune vs. the multiple combinations of the Octave array. It is also very easy to use for the complexities of its sound.

I intended on using this unit to -1 octave on the 3 lowest strings on my acoustic guitar. I have successfully isolated the low E, A and D strings on a separate pic up and pre-amp. When it works it sounds better than any other octave pedal I've tried.
BUT, this thing operates for 5-8 songs then the effect fades and goes silent, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A PERFORMANCE, YIKES!!!
Electro Harmonix Fixed it a couple times, but after a while the problem comes back. They said something about the power supplies are not designed for continuous use of these high power effects, just momentary solos.
Turns out, no octave pedals I've tried can stand up to 3-4 hours continuous use. Come on Electro H. Solve this problem.

This Thing Does Work

By Josh

from Tulsa, OK

Comments about Electro-Harmonix POG2 Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

WOW! What a great pedal!! I've tried a few octavers (Polyphonic and monophonic), and lemme say, this thing is AMAZING! It tracks flawlessy. The tones you can get out of this thing are awesome. If you take the time to dial in the organ tone, you can accurately reproduce it. Also, when using the attack slider, you can make your guitar sound like an army of violinists. Well worth the money. Get it.

Best octave I've found

By Tom

from Reno , NV

Comments about Electro-Harmonix POG2 Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

Aside from certain pedals desired for their tone (Hendrix' octave-fuzz, etc), this is the best I've ever heard. Truly does recreate the extra 2 octaves above AND below, giving you a full 5 octave output. Was used first time at church practice where there is no organ/keys player to get that good organ tone, but my mexi-strat thru fender hotrod deluxe was very convincing. I only had 20 minutes to fiddle with it before practice started, and was very very satisfied with the tones available.

Almost great

By Bob

from Worcester, MA

Comments about Electro-Harmonix POG2 Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

The tones in this thing are very interesting and useful. I was able to create five presets in a sitting that account for most of my gigging needs. While I am a bassist, this thing sounds great on guitar with a little drive. I dialed in a tone that just made me want to play Frankenstein, and my one guitar sounded like Edgar Winter's entire band. The biggest problem with this pedal is the preset switching. It just wasn't designed for on-the-fly tone changes during a performance. If you are planning to use multiple presets in a single song, you might be disappointed at what it would take to do this. It's obviously better than the original POG with no memory, but it isn't what it should be. If I didn't need this now, I'd have waited for the POG3.

It Broke....

By JH

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Electro-Harmonix POG2 Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Pedal is pretty awesome. But it worked less that 3 months. I really enjoyed it. You can do a lot with it. I can imagine that adjusting it in a live setting would be a pain. I have had mine less than 3 months and it has stopped working. I have not played out with it, and it has remained in my rehearsal space. One day it worked, the next it did not. Looking online, I have seen people with the same experience. Its a lot of money to spend on something that you can't trust. Keep that in mind when shopping.

Polyphonic is what makes this great

By Mike Abney

from College Station, TX

Comments about Electro-Harmonix POG2 Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

There are other octave and pitch shifting pedals out there, but finding another that is polyphonic (other than this one's younger sibling the mini-POG) is tricky. In case you're not familiar, the polyphonic in this case means the pedal can octave-shift multiple notes at once. The best example of this is replicating a 12-string sound with a 6-string. Play "Wish You Were Here" with this and be able to switch from the 12-string opening to the 6-string solo with ease.

Best $324 spent on pedals

By Brendan

from Costa Mesa, CA

Comments about Electro-Harmonix POG2 Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

I play for a Christian rock/worship band and sometimes our synth player isn't able to make it, this pedal completely solved that problem! I'm able to get some awesome organ and synth sounds out of this pedal! I also use it for some string/ebow type sounds. I have an ebow, but this pedal is just a lot easier to use, especially when playing lead because I constantly find myself having to pick up and put down the ebow so that I can play lead lines, but with this pedal I don't need to even pick up the ebow and get the same if not better sounds out of it.

Wonderful Pedal

By Ronald Holm

from Loves Park, IL

Comments about Electro-Harmonix POG2 Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is one cool device. Generate just a first low octave and produce authentic bass with your guitar. Add the first high octave and produce a fine 12-string sound. Add second octaves and effects to produce an organ sound and a variety of other sounds. The preset options are very handy. The POG is nice, but I am glad I spent the extra money to buy the POG2. The GC order was flawless and delivery was very fast. I have a couple of questions, though. First, why doesn't EH add a battery option for power? Second, exactly why do they say only an EH power supply can be used with the POG2? I mean, volts are volts and mAs are mAs, right? Not a big deal, but I am curious.

The 1st effect pedal I have kept for bass

By MAURICE HOLYBEE

from Cherry Valley

Comments about Electro-Harmonix POG2 Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

as a bassist I have tried all sorts of effects pedals, most made very interesting sounds and were fun to play with, but all were returned. This is the 1st one that I will keep. It adds fullness like adding a B3 to the background. I don't see much use for the 2nd octive down as it is subsonic in most cases, but the one octive down adds a deep fullness. When played with hints of lower and upper octives it just seems to add harmonics, when more aggressive it can be overbearingly tinny on the 2nd octive up and if played to low it can add subsonic warble. but if used in moderation I see tremenous usefulness for this device.
