The Electro Harmonix Nano Bassballs Twin Envelope Filter effects pedal has everything you loved about the original Bassballs in a pocket size. The human vocal-like sound of its two sweeping filters gives bass a strong presence under leads, or a commanding quality when out front. The resonant frequencies are engineered solidly into the full range of the bass guitar's strongest harmonics. Bassballs will respond to every bass note. The sweep is widely variable, and harmonic enrichment is available with the distortion switch.
The Nano Bassballs comes in a small, die-cast case with rounded corners, saving valuable pedalboard space. The footswitch selects your original signal or the filtered signal as the Bassballs output. The range of the filters‚ upward sweep in pitch is set by the interaction of instrument volume and the sensitivity control. Both stronger attacks and higher (clockwise) control settings increase the sweep range. Low volume and low sensitivity settings will create little or no sweep, and Bassballs will only provide a small boost in its lowest frequencies. In its upward position, the fuzz switch introduces additional harmonic enrichment that accentuates the filters‚ action. The sensitivity pot also serves as a volume control for the fuzz, also increasing in the clockwise direction.

I bought this pedal because I wanted a simple envelope filter. I wasn't expecting to use it in combination with other effects but when I ran it before my fuzz I was blown away. The way it transforms the signal is incredible and expressive it's like having a totally different fuzz. This also holds true with all of the other effects I have on my board. I have to admit I wasn't too impressed when I first plugged it in. It had a overpowering high end at high attack and peak of the sweep. I took a look online and found out that there are two trim pots inside that you can manipulate to find the tone you are looking for, and it didn't take a lot of adjusting to find the right sound. I would say that my sound has evolved with the addition of this pedal.
I ordered this, and have had it now for just 2 weeks. It is just what the doctor ordered! It is a very user friendly, rugged box. The true pedal that gives you nature at it's best. The voicing works perfectly with my MusicMan 5 string. Active pickups work great with this small pedal. And having true bypass makes it even sweeter! I love this baby, and it is now my number 1 effect! Thank you Electro-Harmonix for a great product, that will stay in my lineup for good!! This is a must have for players who want an effect that they can control, and depend on.
THIS THING IS VERY SIMPLE TO USE, I FOUND ONE DISTORTED AND ONE CLEAN SETTING I LIKE VERY MUCH. I PLAY WALNUT CARVINS INTO FENDER BASSES -- THIS PEDAL WAS A GREAT ADDITION FOR GETTING MORE "STONER METAL" AND FUNK SOUNDS. FUN, EFFECTIVE AND CHEAP! ...one little problem though, do NOT rely on batteries if you will gig with this pedal - it gobbles batteries, get the adaptor for it.
This is the one that Flea uses. Doent get much better than that. Its metal box makes it almost indestructable. Highly reccommend this one!
I have one of the original/vintage Bass Balls pedals, and really like the sound of this pedal. It has gotten beat up over the years, the distortion knob has been broken off for quite awhile, and it's starting to make funny, alien noises not associated with the normal effect sounds; time for a check up. I purchased the Nano pedal as a fill in, until I could get the old one fixed. The Nano has all the same attributes as its bigger, older brother, and the sound is pretty authentic to the original. The filter sweep range appears to sound like the original. I've always had a problem with the way the distortion knob works, as whenever I kick in that feature the bottom seems to drop out when I really dig in and hit the strings. Perhaps I need to hook up a good bass distortion pedal, and get a real distortion sound to compliment the bass balls sound. I really like this pedal overall, and so far I'm happy with the way it has been working on the gigs. It's a lot smaller than the original, and that's always a plus on some stages, with singers and guitarists prancing around, always seeming to come really close to stomping on the cables connected to the pedals. A good, affordable remake of a cool sounding effect pedal.
Well I got my Bassballs delivered and I am THOUROUGHLY impressed. I really like the sound you can get out of it with the fuzz on. Without the fuzz it isn't too much but could be a great subtle effect. I use it with a phase 90 and that can get some WICKED tones. There isn't much variability but the sound that does come out of it is what I was looking. Now if you're looking for something that can get tons of different sounds the bassballs probably isn't for you but if you want a fuzzy, vocal-like envelope then this is what to get.
