Overview

The Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy effects pedal presents a pure analog delay for musicians who covet thick sound from a thin wallet. EH melds heritage with select components to present the musician with up to 550ms of delay. Not a toy but a professional tool that bathes your axe with organic depth and dimension. The selectable chorus is a lush bonus.

The Memory Toy can be used in combination with other effects processors. Experiment with any combination to develop your own unique sound. The footswitch toggles between effect and true bypass modes.

Delay controls the delay time of the EHX Memory Toy guitar pedal and the range of delay time is from 30ms to 550ms. Turn the delay time clockwise to increase the delay amount. The Blend control allows you to vary the mix of direct and delayed signals from 100% dry when set counterclockwise to 100% wet at full clockwise. The effect pedal's feedback control increases the number of delay repeats or multiple echoes. At high settings the unit will begin to self-oscillate. Fairly high feedback with short delay settings produces a reverb type of effect. The Mod switch will enable a slow modulation on the delay time similar to the chorus modulation of the Deluxe Memory Man. The Status LED shows that the Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy is in effect mode. When the LED is off, the Memory Toy is in true bypass mode. Use the footswitch to toggle between the two modes.

I was surprised to read all the negative reviews. The build quality is NOT bad, it is a pretty solid metal casing with tight input jacks, sturdy knobs, etc.. Any pedal can quit on you 4 or 5 months down the road or even 4 days after you buy it, thats the nature of stomping on a tiny device with your foot, on a circuitry board taking the impact. I am running it through a Marshall 100w Head with a 4(12) 1960's cab... I cranked it up loud and I did not get "grainy" or any tone or delay loss. As far as the chorus goes, you should be able to tell just by looking at the knobs in the picture that this pedal is not going to give you a whole lot of Chorus adjusting, it's mainly Delay with a tad of Echo built in... if you want more? Go buy a Chorus pedal... I have never heard of any Electro-Harmonix being "incompatible" on the effects loop.. This pedal is "so cheap" because it is very simple and doesnt do too much. Just regular delay, no tap-tempo like the pricy ones, with a touch of echo and chorus tone... along with a Mod switch. If you want simplicity and good delay for a great price, and reliability then pick one of these up, and grab pro-coverage while you're at it, remember that ANY pedal can die on you, they are electronics, people!!!!

Just got this but I'm returning it tomorrow. The delay sounds good but it boosts your volume considerably when on regardless of how it's set. This may not be a problem if you only want it for solos (may even be advantageous then) or use it in an effects loop. But if you have no fx loop & want to use it on clean sounds it will boost your amps input driving your preamp tubes to earlier breakup. Also the modulation is horrible as set from the factory but you can adjust it internally from a trim pot located directly under the power supply input, however surprisingly there is no info about this in the documentation.I found out from Electro Harmonix site's forum.

Super Analog Pedal

By Aaron Landers

from Indianapolis, IN

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy Analog Echo and Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

Just purchased this and I am very happy with it. I have owned DM2's, Digital Delays, and a Fab Echo. DM2's were great but just bought them to sell. Compared this to the Carbon Copy, and the TC Flashback. Carbon Copy sounds like a digital pedal to me. Did not like. The Flashback is very warm but did not need extra features.Just knowing my habits I need something very simple and intuitive.Bought this pedal knowing I would take it and trade it for the Flashback if I didn't like it once I got home. I will be keeping it. It sounds great

Good pedal, but you get what you pay for.

By alex alamos

from Wichita KS

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy Analog Echo and Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought this pedal brand new, and liked it. The controls are simple and effective. No tap tempo or anything fancy. I was getting an annoying "SNAP" every time I turned the effect on or off. The snap would echo since it's a delay pedal. I had the GC 30 day warranty, so I got a another EHX Memory Toy. The second pedal didn't snap as bad, but I've noticed some "Grainy" noises in the actual delays. It helps if you turn the BLEND down, which diminishes the delay effect. I can live with this pedal, but it's not my favorite because of these issues. I've read that some Memory Toys stopped working just after a few months. So far that hasn't happened to me, but I don't abuse it at all. I don't gig with it, or take it on the road. I just play it at home. They seem to be kinda fragile in the inside, and the MOD switch is dangerously close to the toggle switch. I'd suggest getting GC's Pro Coverage if you're planning on abusing this pedal, or get a Boss DD3. Boss pedals seem to withstand almost anything. I love the organic feel that analog provides in a delay, and the Memory Toy does that. It might die on you in the long run though. I'd suggest paying extra on something flawless that you know will last you a long time.

A little tweeking goes a long way

By jay vinton

from Honolulu Hawaii

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy Analog Echo and Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

I love everything about the pedal. NOW. When I recieved it, the chorus feature was virtually useless, it was a seasick warble that only got worse with adjustments. Luckily, there are pages on the web that address this issue. Inside are tonepots that are adjustable. T8 which is the tiny screw at the very top requires just a 1/16 of a turn to even out, and mellow the chorus to a usable sound. Once done, it's a fantastic pedal. For the money, none are simpler, none are better. It's built like an Abrams tank and is intuitive right from the start.

Best Delay On My Board

By Jacob Huff

from Anderson, IN

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy Analog Echo and Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is outstanding! On board I also have a Carbon Copy and a DL-4. This pedal wins! The controls are simple and easy to use. It can give you a nice slap back or a nice filling sound to your solo. It will do anything you need it to. My only complaint (Which isn't that important to me anyway) is that I cant hear the Chorus, but to me that doesn't matter because I'm not to huge of a chorus fan. This pedal tone wise killed my carbon copy. No matter how loud I had my amp or any of the neighboring pedals this pedal kept its tone. Compared to the DL-4 (Just the basic delay not counting all of the other frills that the DL-4 has) This pedal also won. For the price there is not a better analog pedal!! This is a must buy for any guitar player that uses delay over most of their playing!

BETTER THAN MXR CARBON COPY

By Triode

from rochester MN

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy Analog Echo and Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

Probably the best analog delay for the money ever! Offers more than the MXR CARBON COPY for less money. Most problems people have been reporting in other reviews is due to the fact that they don't know what they are talking about as far as reliablity.

Awesome fo the Price

By Cobra

from Spokane, Wa

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy Analog Echo and Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

I can't seem to dog on this pedal other than the whole chorus aspect. The chorus is set and is sort of an after effect you can't really adjust any of the chorus settings. Also the site says this is an echo pedal when it is really an analog delay pedal, just like it says on the pedal... but I realized that when I did some research on it. Advice: don't buy it if you are reading the banner check out some videos on youtube and the like they have demos of all these pedals. I bought this as a cheap analog delay pedal not a chorus/echo pedal.

total disappointment

By Vince M

from Hinckley, Ohio

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy Analog Echo and Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

The build quality is pretty bad. Not compatible for all amps when ran through the effects loop. The blend adjustment seemed off right out of the box. As you turn it up you lose the delay and it becomes a boost. I really did not hear any chorus effect with the mod switch on. Access to the battery was a pain with screws that were almost stripped. I have had it for about five months and it stopped working all together.
